Character gone?

Just loaded up the game and it said gta servers are unavilable so i try again and it works but goes to the character screen where you get to pick your character and mine has gone.

 

I have checked the rockstar social site and the picture of my character has gone but it still says the rank i am and how may races i have won etc but no xp or kills or missions.

 

Its gone forever right?

Yeah it is gone forever, Rockstar have no way to recover accounts they said.

It's likely you are playing with servers out, which means it cannot load your characters as it can't load the servers (servers is where they save your character, think of servers like a online memory card) - so wait until servers are back for you and character should load. Don't make new character in that slot. Just wait or maybe fool around with another slot. Don't overwrite your characters slot even if it isn't there.

If you clicked retry your character has gone, if you backed out the game and restarted it up it should still be there.

On the social club, make sure on your stats page it's set on the console you play on. Also, if the cloud is down DONT retry or make a temporary character. You can screw up your slot.

Happened to me last week mate. Had to start again. Frustrating.

I have some experience with this. I'd do nothing, do not play until you are sure the character is truly gone. Let the Cloud come up (if it's down), and then check.

Yes. This happened to me last week. There were a few times I pressed Retry before and nothing happened, but last week it did cause the problem. Rockstar has been very specific about what you press when you receive a message about cloud errors. Follow them verbatim.

 

OP, it's gone. If it doesn't come back within a few hours to a day, don't waste your time and start over.

I got the same message for two days on 360, and the game wanted me to make another character in order to play online at all or I could only play on disc content. I waited it out 2 days and the next time I played my 100 character had returned...the garage was empty though.
