360: Anyone Else Think The Rudder Allocated To Bumpers Is Stupid?

Now I love flight sims and have flown them so much that flying in 99% of games I find flying is pizz easy.... not in GTA V though. I either lose control of the throttle or the twitchyness of throwing full rudder left and right makes the plane unstable.

For some reason the devs don't understand that rudders are ANALOG while the bumpers are DIGITAL... i.e. the rudder is either centered or full left or full right which if you did it with a real plane would end up in a crash too. Now add in that you have to hold down the right trigger to keep the speed up to stop stalling leaves you tying your fingers up in knots. It's the instant full rudder that throws the plane out of balance and makes it so darn twitchy. If you could put on gentle it would not make the thing glitch all over the sky.

INSTANT FIX!

What would have made more sense is to move the camera panning onto the bumpers and moved the rudder to the right thumbstick for flying. 100% better control by far. Then maybe have a sticky throttle... ie pull on right trigger and then let go and then it stays at that throttle level... like in real planes. Left trigger reduces the throttle level. Yup, the devs need to gets chucked into a cockpit and shown how they work lol. Simple changes that would make flying them MUCH more fun than the awkward control system we have already.

It's so damned annoying when the devs don't even let you choose what control layout you want. The various offered layouts are pretty lame because of the rudder.

Lets face it... ALL games should give the user full control for mapping the controller, just like PC players get the option to...

I honestly don't find flying in this game hard at all and I don't play flights sims.

I think overcompensating for the turbulence is what gets a lot of people in trouble because if you don't try and compensate for it nothing really happens to your flight path. Just a little cosmetic wobbling of your aircraft and it's almost back to being centered.

you wont stall out if you do not hold the throttle. ive never flown so i dont know much about effects of speed, but it is just enough thrust to keep in the air. you can maneuver at "neutral" speed just fine. seems with the lazer, holding down the throttle actually is afterburner. at least thats what it looked like to me.

Well that cosmetic wobbling has had me crash into the ground several time because of the glitching and flight path changing when I am trying to do the final flight challenge. Go inverted and just fall out of the sky. Maybe because I have flown so many flight sims that I expect a plane to fly like a plane and not like a low mass remote controle plane. That's another problem there which is another reason why the flight model sucks. The helicopters in Flight SImulator X are bad but are awesome compared to GTA. What is needed is increased mass but increased engine power to compensate. That way they wouldn't bounce all over the sky... even the AI has problems. with bouncing them all over the place.

To be honest this low mass effect is why the cars are so twitchy as well. Play a NFS game and you can see the difference that I mean. NFS games may have problems in refresh rates but the cars actually handle nicely.

But hey, GTA is just a cartoon arcade version of pseudo real life. Totally gross over the top stuff that makes players ignore the problems under the hood that has been there since III. I've played every version since 1. I do love V though just for the characters this time... Not so much Franklin (as I hardly can understand his talk) but Micheal and of course Trevor make up for it. I don't think I have laughed so much at a video game as I have when Trevor is explaining something to Wade. The story he tells Wade from where he lives down to Mike's part of town had me crying with laughter.

But I do wish they would make a GTA with a decent FPS view and more realistic mass/physics that makes games like NFS and Forza and Gran Turismo so much better. OK they are primarily racing but they do do much better handling than GTA. Basically every time a new GTA comes out I hope that we will see a good racing game incorporated into the engine.

Oh one thing... Does anyone else notice that AI cars go over red lights AND THEN STOP AT GREEN? I've given up looking at the lights because the challenges DEMAND that you run every light whether it is red or green or mult coloured pink. Oh and when they include a GTA that includes AI signalling so I know when one is going to do a90 degree turn at 30mph across in front of me I will jump up and down with glee. Oh and give up some DLC with a James Bond car with missiles and rockets and oil slicks as it's in the same arcadey humour as GTA heh.

In fact I was going down underneath the motorway (or interstate or whatever you americans call it) when a bunch of police cars pliled through some fences and a bunch of homeless people and then started shooting them all... Talk about jaw on the floor. You just never know what is going to happen in this game. Then I get capped by some guys who were robbing SU.... Scarey place...
