Targeting Mode problem

I joined a friends room the other day and they had the targeting mode set to free aim only and I had to change my settings over before it let me in. After leaving and going back to normal rooms my targeting mode is still in free aim only and in the menu options it is blacked out and won't let me change it. Any advice on how to fix this?

I believe you have to change it back in Single Player first. Try that, and then join an online game.
