Grinding for points and trophies have ruined most games.

There was a time when people enjoyed the competition and gameplay associated with online games. Playing with friends and strangers LIVE online was enough for most people to find enjoyment.

NOT ANYMORE. It's all about imaginary financial status, or who has the most useless "stuff". Grinding for endless hours just to see a pixelated trophy pop up on your screen, or to watch XP, RP or whatever other "points" are used on a game increase, has replaced good old fashioned competition.

With THIS game in particular, people begged Rockstar to make money have a purpose, and I was one of those people. Guess what? Rockstar LISTENED, and while the system is obviously flawed, it is being worked on. I have NO problem with them adjusting everything as long as they eventually make it better. The problem is everyone ELSE who is constantly harping about money, RP points or whatever status symbol objects they feel entitled to. Status, money and points have replaced the good old fashioned fun of interacting with others in missions, gameplay and side activities. If there isn't enough money or RP involved, they aren't interested.

I have invited countless people to play Golf, Tennis and racing, but hardly anyone is interested because they are too obsessed with grinding for more status garbage. Racing NEVER gets old for me, because every race is a different experience due to the nature of competition, however, many people STILL complain about repetitiveness. Many of these people are the SAME people who spend countless hours playing COD or Battlefield, which are the most repetitive games in history.

I wouldn't mind seeing the money, RP and trophies disappear for a month, and just have an open world where anything goes, with nothing to lose, and nothing to gain. I guarantee people would have more fun just for the mere fact that they are no longer "keeping tabs" on who has what, or who LOST what.

I agree 100%...

These same grinding/boosters have also ruined racing now with their 1 lap shortest track bullsh*t.

I'd AGREE with you but THIS game doesn't really HAVE a competitive LEG to stand on, ONE look at the game tells you THAT.

+1 with OP I agree totally, it's nice to be able to choose what cars you drive but honestly with all the glitching they would have made a better game by just saying "Pick your apartment, pick any 10 cars you want, have fun" without all the grinding. I'd hate to think it has something to do with selling cash cards but I don't really see any other purpose to the grinding than to frustrate others into taking the easy way out.

Unfortunately any mission mode you get into, 90 percent of the people are there for the financial reward or RP reward, not the fun.

I AM SORRY ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE VIDEO, BUT MY WEBCAM IS ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH.

It's a decent post. How about you read on a FORUM and you might find it more enjoyable

I agree with the OP. Unless the mission is the most efficient at whatever they want to grind they aren't really interested. I've also got a similar gripe with party chat. No longer can you have a good game with randoms as people are always in a party or are muted to avoid the childish racist slurs

Complaining about having to read on a forum is like complaining in a chinese restaurant for having chinese food.

Totally agree, hate grinding them but as a trophy hunter its gotta be done

Hate the fact that they are attached to online game play! i am grinding away just to reach rank 100, trophies should stay single player only so i can enjoy the MP more :)

Half of this forum is filled with mindless drones complaining about something related to RP or money.

i hate to be the one to point out the obvious, but those meaningless "points" used to be the only objective in video games. The Ages of High scores have long past but they still exist in some form

I guarantee that you are wrong.

Let's try to keep things in perspective, op. What you consider fun? Is not what I consider fun. It's the way of the world. No matter how much you want people to enjoy things the same way you do, it ain't happening.

Achievements are just a way to artificially lengthen a game. Do the same crap over and over and over again to get that extra one point or extra tenth of a second to get platinum.

I rarely play a game twice and that is because once I know the story, there is no point in seeing it again and again and again... I don`t have THAT bad of a memory yet.

It totally defeats its own purpose, and devalues the rewards of progress making them pointless. When people are offered a reward for winning 10 races, they simply trade race wins - as evidenced by the organisation of trading on this very forum. It not only devalues the rewards, but it clogs up the lobbies with people who will kick you if you are not part of their worth less scheme. The whole design philosophy makes me not desire anything that is awarded in this game.

They need to change the rewards so they encourage competition, improve a player's ability, and discourage boosting. Boosting occurs when the rewards for completing objectives are cosmetic, so they should scrap all the platinum awards and mod unlocks, because they are little more than trading cards - there is no satisfaction in earning these if it is the same reward as someone who didn't earn them. They lose all value as status symbols, thus making the competition to get them pointless, and when that happens it renders participation pointless too.

What they should have done is rewarded success in competition with higher level competition - you wouldn't want to boost your way into a group of higher level competitors if all that would happen is you get found out as being not at that level. It would work the same as the league system in most real life sports, so you could work your way into the top league if you applied yourself, or get relegated from there if you cheated your way there by boosting then getting beaten every time you played in that league.

It would encourage players to strive to be better, rather than just handing each other wins. Status would be expressed by what league you are in, not by a collection of platinum gongs or hairstyles.

That's why I never grind for stupid sh*t not put in the game. I also gave up on 100% years ago, when I realized that DLC trophies are counted in the % even if you haven't bought DLC. f*ck em. It's Pavlovian conditioning and I ain't having it.

I`m not a racer. Not in a non-realistic sim medium, anyway. I traded wins with a friend because I want the mods for my cars. I don`t like idiots online and their ideas of bumper cars. I would still trade wins for what I want.

I don`t care much for status and "swag".

Do please convince me that creating threads about every possible useless crap in the game is right. And that I actually want to do the previous.

All you need to do is create or join a crew focused on competitive racing. Problem solved and you can ignore the other players that are having fun their way (as opposed to other players having fun your way).

Such is fate of most RPG's...

... I guess I'll get hated, but games like Battlefield don't have such system. Which is why they're fun every time you play them. But then there's the fact that they're limited by the maps, one reason to play (pew pew shoot, stab) etc...

I want them for myself, not to shove them in your face with stupid remarks. I would have been a liar or a hypocrite if I would have been sporting fully modded cars and boasting how I EARNED them fair and square. I don`t have the time and the patience to race morons in a shoot`em`up race.

I'm not totally against trophies and grinds, but I just feel that they have become the MAIN objective, rather than a bonus for reaching certain achievements. The main objective is to GET people to do certain things that are supposed to be enjoyable experiences. A race should be a fun and challenging experience, NOT a "chore" you feel obligated to do because you just GOTTA keep up with everyone else's status level.
