Custom Cars In Races

I finally bought the Carbonizzare (or whatever it's called) for $195,000.

 

I went and fully customised it, think I spent around £100k-£150 doing so. Everything is full except armour (60%).

 

I went into a race and picked my car. It's the exact colour of my car but the stats of it appear to be the 'normal' stats. Once I go into free mode it has the stats after I customised it. Also my horn in the race was the normal horn where as I have a different horn in free mode.

How come I can't use my custom car in a race? Custom cars was on. I spent almost £350,000 on this car instead of an apartment I was saving for

Yes, the stats seem to be reduced during races, though your customised car will still perform better than the stock. Not sure by how much the stats are reduced compared to freemode.

I had the standard horn in the race, but others in the race beeping their horn had custom ones?? I don't get it. I'm sure they have better stats too as they easily out run me even in a straight line...

If they had different models, that might be the case, though the Carbonizzare is the fastest sports car. If you were judging by the start of the race, maybe they used the launch start and you didn't (press accelerate immediately after you see "GO")?

 

Edit: Oh, and you picked "Custom Carbonizarre" when choosing a vehicle, not just "Carbonizarre"?

It sounds like you picked the stock option for the race. You should have had your custom horn during the race if it was your custom car. Also the performance mods will help a lot, don't mind the stat bars they are worthless.

Annoyed also as I wouldn't have blew all that money if I couldn't use it in a race.

Out of interest, I looked at the stats (out of 5) of my fully souped-up Gauntlet in the garage (freemode), as an option at the beginning of the race, and the stock Gauntlet offered at the beginning of the race:

 

speed - acceleration - braking - traction

Garage: 3.9 - 5.0 - 1.5 - 3.7

Custom race: 3.4 - 2.8 - 2.6 - 4.0

Stock race: 3.4 - 1.7 - 2.6 - 4.0

 

So, if these are correct, the mods only affect the acceleration of the car in-race.

Yeah it's really weird, I can say for sure mids definitely effect in race performance but they're a little understated compared to free roam

You can use it in a race.

 

Either you just chose the wrong car for the race or it's a temporary bug.

I was saving for an apartment, but being level 57 in races and racing only people around my level or higher I was totally being outpaced in straight line speed so opted for the car.

I 100% had my custom car and not the normal version. My horn was standard in race but in free mode it's custom. The car in the race (ignoring the stats) was noticeably slower

Try again and make sure you're selecting "Custom Carbonizzare" as your race vehicle. As some consolation, you'll be getting $250,000 from Rockstar tomorrow or the next day.

 

Edit: if you're on Playstation, message me your nick, and we can race the stock Carbonizzare against your souped-up version on the Taking Off track to compare their performance.

Then it was a temporary bug, as I said.

I know how you feel I'm 56 and only won a few race so my cars not maxed sad to say and I'm stuck in a 2 car garage lol

I've gained pretty much all my ranks via racing. Not farming either but it's getting to the point I can't compete now as my car isn't good enough

Maybe a bug? I have a custom Coquette, and have used it in a lot of races. The horn I bought for it is still there in the race, the dump valve from the turbo is there and it's faster than the other cars..
