Motorbike Racing Question

I've been exclusively motorbike racing because car races kind of suck, but I'm still not really sure what the most efficient method of driving is. I'm almost certain I gain speed while doing wheelies, but I can't tell if it's best to wheelie constantly or just while I'm on flat surfaces.

 

What I'll do in a race is wheelie along a straight path, push the analogue stick up when going down a slope, and drive normally while going up slopes and around corners.

 

Has anyone looked into this in more detail?
