[SPOILERS]The hunt for North Yankton?

I tried looking for pics from North Yankton. Interestingly, #NorthYankton exists but has no pictures.

#Prologue and #BurytheHatchet also exist.

How about we'll start North Yankton hunt? f*ck the Jetpack. North Yankton is better.

You're goddamn right it is. What are you looking it up on anyway, with the hashtags and stuff, twitter?

if you can mod, PM me. Yankton V

Snapmatic :p

E: has anyone tried to fly as high as possible and then fly out of map in the same direction like in Bury The Hatchet?

1c7h.png

I've heard about people trying it before, but they don't get far before the plane gives out and falls into the sea.

I know, it is possible to continue flying for a while though. When engine shuts down, the plane is gliding so if you try to get control you can stay the same height for some time. Tried myself before and flew looong way out of map (I couldn't see it anymore, and the draw distance is really huge) but it turned out that I flew the exact opposite direction so there was nothing at all.

Another possibility is that it is something similar to Saints Row, part of city unloads and a different one loads for missions.

That might work as far as gliding in that direction. I wouldn't expect much, though, as how would NY present itself to be? Just another Island in the middle of the ocean?

If anything, it's probably above/under the map, or in a whole nother 'universe', like Liberty City was in SA

So I've tried to fly. I got dead engine at max possible height and then I was able to glide for almost 10 minutes. Somehow, strange force of gravity started pulling me down. I jumped out the plane and instantly got eaten by a shark.

@Lazyboy, I would try it but I don't have a save with Bury the Hatchet.

Is it possible North Yankton is an interior sort of thing, similar to LC in San Andreas?

Perhaps we can access it through blue hell. Has anyone tried this?

This may work. I also thought about it being an "interior", as you can't spawn any vehicles there by cheats, similiar to LC in San Andreas. Wheater cheats don't work either...

Oh and you can't even set a waypoint.

Tried digging in the game files. I found some interesting stuff (GTA SA leftovers) but I can't and don't know how to open .meta, .xmt and .ugc files

Did you try to open the .meta files with notepad++? I know that there was vehicles.meta (or something along those lines) which was more or less the same type as vehicles.ide in the PC version of IV and was able to be opened. Maybe there are coords for map objects somewhere which give a clue...

I think we'll need to wait until the PC version. Something interesting in the game files is that there are 3 different snowy weather emitter text files, most likely for telling the game how to drop them. Some simple modding will allow it to work in the main map I guess, without having to replace rain.

With the North Yanktown map itself, I would assume the distant sections are very low-res and have no detail, that area may also not have a collision (to save space and resource), as you're not supposed to go there. The distant mountains would break off into either nothing, or water. So even if you did somehow get out of the boundary, you might fall through the ground and teleport back on to the specified area.

I got something interesting. I tried to fly again and use Skyfall like @FusionCold85 said but I died the moment I hit water. I respawned at Paleto Bay and I thought that maybe it's the wrong direction. I remembered a Snapmatic picture that showed that the player respawned in Strawberry. If this is legit straight-out-of-mission, we should fly South/South-East and not North. I replayed Bury The Hatchet. The waypoint was gone and I couldn't set another one. I went offroad to Bobcat Security place (Prologue) without failing and I stayed offroad. Driven a bit further and decide to look at the background.

Minimap has caught my eye.

The "North" is pointed the opposite direction than the way map is placed. So the real map would be this: (Original map for reference)

Going by that logic, we should either try flying straight North or straight South.

E: I also tried to use Skyfall and Super Jump cheat. Both are disabled for the mission.

I don't think so but the NY map is quite interesting just because of all the specific snow effects and things they have in it, all for a prologue mission and a short return mission.

They really should have it as a playable map for TDM or something. Maybe even some racing and I'm pretty sure there is enough open space.

Definitely true. I hope once GTA 5 comes out for the PC, a mod gets made with the whole map. I'd totally join up on that project

100% this. The amount of sh*t that needs to be addressed and fixed on PC make my head spin because it keeps growing the longer I play this on console  From opening up inaccessible interiors, maps like NY, improving textures/graphics, car handling physics etc.etc. etc.

If they do make it for PC, I won't be playing any save games unless they're a heavily modded version of the game.

So you're saying that although it looks like the bank is on the southern part of Cavalry Blvd. in the menu map, it's actually north of Cavalry Blvd? Mind - blown

Another question worth asking, should we open up a new thread regarding North Yankton as a whole (theories, glitches, discoveries, mods, etc.), or stick to this thread for all our updates?

We could rename the topic to "North Yankton hunt" or something like that and edit the OP with what we know so far :)

rightdiddlyroo, I'm on it :^:

Just re-wrote the first post to confirm our findings and what we know. Let me know if I missed anything, and tell the mods to change the title!

@universetwisters - Report the topic with a rename request :^:

I got the sudden realization that both LC and NY are the only places with snow area, used for a mission only, not accessible (without glitches) and in both GTA's that have Los Santos.

I think R* are giving us clues

E: For the OP, you can also add that Snapmatic has it's own North Yankton tag.

Good point, but what's the clue to?

and I'm editing the OP now with the tag

The location. Maybe the Mount Chilliad UFO thing could be related. Or the map could be right under (or above) Los Santos like it was above LS in GTA SA

/wildspeculation

...or it could lead to nowhere.

The only UFO-thing I can think of is the alien seen underneath the rail bridge in the frozen water.

And no speculation is too wild here. We can say that North Yankton is governed by Indians wearing Sombreros and f*ck, it's still a theory

universetwisters

I think i might help you guys with this once i reach 100%.

I'm about 80% complete now anyways.

Did you get all the missions done and stuff?

Main missions, yes. Right now I'm working on strangers and freaks.

Ah, rightyroo. I wonder if any Stranger & Freak missions mention Yankton. I haven't played through much of them.

I have a gold mine of findings.

North Yankton has 9 vehicles made specifically for the map.

License plate pattern is XX000000 (All vehicles spawn with LS pattern; 00XXX000)

Sadlers can spawn with trailers. All are non-snowy.

Trains spawn.

You cannot climb ladders.

Fences and lamps cannot be destroyed.

There is a possible invisible wall at the end or simply no collision.

Population: 904

These trees (all trees, tbh) have no collision. Tried shooting and nothing happened.
taxf.jpg

That place is not solid.
78pp.jpg

There is a little barn you can climb on top of. Nothing special but I think it's worth sharing.
dslx.jpg

That road (All side roads in general) lead to nowhere and "dissolve" in snow.
4stm.jpg

GPS recognizes side roads (which were never used in story, the one in "Prologue" is a different one)
txi7.jpg

Train Tracks "dissolve" in snow and grow trees on them with fences going through. Trains can comfortably pass through that
yn3l.jpg

End of the city is a fake image of a real life city and the car path is made for cars to do a U-turn at the end. (You can see a car (Emperor) doing a U-turn)
pzbh.jpg

And now, The Mesa :panic:

kp2l.jpg

How to get it: go to cemetery. Before the train tracks (at cemetery) jump out of the car, as the game will skip to cutscene if you pass. Go to the car park and there it is. (RGSC also has a unused pic of it)

E: Snowy Burrito :panic:

That's all I'm able to provide for today. I need to do a 3-page essay for English for tomorrow so I'll stay for a short while and I'm out.
