[SPOILERS]The hunt for North Yankton?

Recommended Posts

I too am interested in visiting and exploring NY. I really like the snowy weather and I wish there was a way of making it snow in the main map without cheats. Hopefully, R* will at the least provide us with a (free?) DLC. If that's not the case then I will be glad to see the first Yankton mod.

Edit: @universe yeah, even if they do release a DLC and it isn't free i'm still probably gonna buy it. Even though I still don't like the idea of paying for it. Besides R* will probably give us the most bang for our buck by adding new cars and allowing us to play on the map in GTAO.

If they're gonna make a DLC, I doubt it'll be free. It won't be hella expensive like $60 or anything, but it might be, say, $10?

Me and some other members here are planning out a Yankton mod, since hell, mods are free and stuff. Right now, we're somewhere in between planning and waiting to get a hold of the files. Most we really planned out at this stage are some of the main characters, and that's about it. And even considering that fact, we know you're just gonna play for Yankton :p

Oh, sh*t. If NY is ND. Than that can be mapping worthy, right?

North Yankton is North Dakota in the GTA universe. I thought this fact was established.

Yes, I know, goddammit. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't get bash for stating it.

Well, anyone got a photo of the theater in GTA V? To compare?

True, honest mistake.

I don't have any pictures right off hand. Someone might, but we don't know. I'll tell you this, though. The kind of theater the one in Ludendorff is based off of is very rarely found here in the rest of the United States, seeing as most movie theaters nowadays are in strip malls or giant stand-alone buildings. I don't think I myself can recall seeing a theater built into a city block.

The vehicle category is down for me. It says it's under maintenance.

They're onto us.

Also, anybody think to imagine what kind of radio stations would be present in NY, if Rockstar decided to put radio stations in as opposed to infinite background music? There probably won't be much, seeing as it's just two missions worth, though, so it's probably not worth discussing unless we want to.

Some Bruce Springsteen would work perfectly in NY, his Born to Run album in particular

Bruce Springsteen is classic rock or something, right? I've been thinking if there were ever a classic rock station in NY, it'd probably be folk or psychadelic rock from the 60s and 70s. It'd be a swell change

So I'm in North Yankton, looking around, and I bring up the map. Lots of bits to look at, sure... But along the long road that you drive up at the start of the game, I notice a building on the map that you can go into that's fully modeled inside? I never saw this before? It's the only building on the entire map you can do this with.

Has it been explored?

bruce springsteen is symphonic death metal with classic and folk rock influences - way ahead of its time

Ahh, okay. I'm not that familair with Bruce Springsteen, but after hearing that "Born To Run" song, it sounds pretty familar, seeing as I've heard it played on the radio oodles of times. These songs also come to mind regarding driving in NY (regarding classic rock)

And there's also the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, but that's way too long. Is it?

@Gavavva - Are you sure you're not thinking of the bank?

My lives ran out, and right now I'm on the wrong mission, the second time in Yankton. I don't think I can get to it on this mission. I'll try and get to it on the first one, but ain't there a time limit there?

Anybody can see the building really easy on the map. It looks lol it has 8 pillars or trees or something out front.

^^^ Have you been inside? Sounds awesome and gives hope for a return of NY!

Just imagine a full map of NY. I wouldn't even want a city, just a dozen towns like Ludendorff and a few bigger ones like Blackwater in RDR. Not LC, LS or VC, just the beautiful countryside in its full glory. Listening to Thunder Road - Springsteen while cruisin' by some farms or Born To Run as you speed about the highway.

My God.

Is it right by where you start in "Bury The Hatchet"? If that's the case, it's the bank from the prologue.

Just imagine a full map of NY

I remember I posted one a few pages ago. Nothing fancy, just a possible extention of Ludendorff, given the map's design.

Is NY a replica of Sundance? There is a film festival there so it makes sense.

I'll post another picture in a bit, making replies on an iPad is a pain.

<huge ass sundance pictures>

NorYank (This is how it could be alternatively abbreviated, to avoid confusion with New York) is based on North Dakota, Sundance Resort is in Provo, Utah, but a festival could make sense for the DLC, maybe include Solomon Richards in it.

Best topic I have seen for a while.

I went thru most of it, dident read everyones posts, but I skimmed over it, will have to read thru this properly when I have more time,

Sorry if anybody mentioned it, but am I the only one who found snow odd? It was ok in the first scene. being 9 years ago it was probly winter,

But in the other mission, you are in socal its summer, convertibles, people wasndering around in bikinis, then you go there and its snowing? then its back to drop tops, bikinis and outdoor yoga, am I the only one who found this.. odd? what season is it? or did they just go with the steryotype it allways snows in the north, I used to think canada was allways coverd in snow when I was a kid.

I'm not sure if there has ever been any confirmation about what season this game takes place in, but I have seen on multiple calendars placed around the map that the month appears to be august.

This might shock you but weather can be vastly different in two places during the same time. And I don't think the game is set in a certain month. Even if it was, something like the fall season could work where it's moderately warm in LA and snowing in Fargo, ND.

Map does not show the entire Ludendorff.

Ludendorff, 3 churches, 3 liquor stores, 3 Ammu-Nations. What more do you need?

Also, we could do something like "Ludendorff Weekly". Showcase of news, reports and findings we have so far

There will be no Ludendorff Weekly this week owing to a complete lack of news

There IS a snowy Fieldmaster in North Yankton, what if the snowplough would've been used on it?

What if the snowplough is one of those dump trucks with a snowplow attatched to it? That's what I always thought, at least.

@wildbrick - good find on the Ludendorff liveinvader page! I'll be sure to update the map when I get home from this swim meet with possible locations and so fourth.

I found some interesting code laying around in the last title update.

	<Item> <Name>NY_DLC</Name> <For>p_michael</For> <Position x="0" y="0" z="0" /> <Orientation x="0" y="0" z="0" /> <Fov value="0" /> <HoldDuration value="0" /> <InterpolateOutDuration value="0500" /> <ShouldIntepolateToCatchUp value="TRUE" /> <CatchUpPosition x="0" y="0" z="0" /> <CatchUpOrientation x="0" y="0.0000" z="0" /> <CatchUpFov value="50" />	</Item>

What exactly should we make of this guys? From what I can tell this is a switch scenario. For those of you who don't know, a switch scenario is a cutscene for a character you're switching to. IE: Trevor pushing a man off a bridge as you switch to him.

Looks like North Yankton is getting some DLC? Wicked awesome!

I don't know code language, though, so I have no clue what it means, aside from "NY DLC" and "p_michael", which obviously means it's related to Michael in some form or another.

Everything in there is mainly the positioning for the camera how it moves (if it does.) This seems blank and useless atm, but it'll lead to something.
