Will we be able to be taxi drivers?

One of my favourite things to do in the campaign is to (even after getting millions in the bank) is to take the wheel of a cab and drive people around. It's one of the best (in my opinion) ways to see the game world (as well as get accustomed to the shortcuts, where to find things, landmarks, etc). It's especially nice when using the windscreen view (very immersive).

 

I'm just wondering if there's going to be the option to be a taxi driver in the game (being able to pick up random people hailing cabs or alternatively, picking up playing characters?). It might be a good way for newer players to gain their first few paychecks easily without deaths and harassment from drive-by shootings from random players online. Obviously making $100 a long journey isn't ideal, the money may need to be tweaked a bit so it's useful but not too lucrative, but I'd love to see it added.

 

Speaking of taxis, I hope Rockstar set it so that the PLAYER can control the taxi radio station...the Hispanic music isn't my thing (sorry to anyone who is Hispanic or likes it, but I just don't) and I'd rather listen to something that I can at least understand, lol. I miss this feature from GTA IV.

I was thinking that earlier. It would be cool if you could be a taxi driver online. They should definitely add it.

I don't think you can steal the cab without shooting the driver in the head. And who wants to drive in a bloodied car?

i whistled for a taxi once.. i don't remember how i did it i alos dont remember if it was in single player or online. just saying you can whistle for a taxi.

I don't think you can steal the cab without shooting the driver in the head. And who wants to drive in a bloodied car?

 

I actually think the drivers doors are locked, you can't "hold" to get in as a driver, only as a passenger.

 

Oh to whistle for a taxi, I think you hold down the right button on the control pad. The problem isn't "getting" the taxi, it's wanting to be a driver and "roleplaying" as a taxi driver.

 

I was thinking if they allowed the taxi option as a job then if your player was killed by another player whilst in the taxi, then that player could be given perhaps a penalty of being prohibited by the game from requesting taxis for the next 24 hours.

 

I don't know, there's a few fun things they could do with it.

I'd be okay with this, but...

1.) It's a way to make money, and Rockstar's clearly trying to limit that.
2.) (For driving players) Most people either steal or call their mechanic for a car in the first place,
3.) (For driving players) They'd have to wait for you to get to them - which could take a while, given the size of the map, and
4.) (For other players in the game, regardless) Most people already make it a sport to kill others for no reason - you'll probably lose money when trying to stop for a fare.

You could be a taxi driver now if you really wanted to.

 

I doubt any fares will go over $500, so you could pick up random users, get them to set a waypoint, and charge them a fee which they give to you when you get them there.

 

Edit - you could even start up a taxi specific crew, where all members drive sh*tty sedans painted to look like taxis, with a taxi emblem etc.

You just gave me a great idea for a new mission with that post. "Cops and Robbers". A 3 match mission where one team is on the baddies (i.e. the thieves) and another team is on the goodies (the cops). Cops chase, robbers run, hide or speed. Could be interesting. I dunno if that mission exists in the game as it is, haven't played them all yet.

The idea would need tweaking. I definitely think that they would set it so that any "cabbie" who was killed would cause the killer to pay a penalty (perhaps even an instant fine as well as a 45 min wait til the next cab allowance).

 

I don't know, it's 3am, I'm half asleep, lol. It'd be fun to be a cabbie in the online game though, even if it's just carting around npcs.

I just had this hilarious image in my head of a "taxi robbery" attempt via a player inside another player's taxi. The player in the back gets an option to "intimidate" (which if the cabbie has a considerable amount in their pocket, would work fairly well) or kill the driver. I could totally see the taxi-driving player slamming the brakes to which the player in the back would go flying through the windshield at high velocity. I laughed so hard thinking of how it would look in game.

Some people might want to be driven around, maybe while they smoke, drink, eat, if it's on the other side of the map or whatever.
