All characters have same amount of money story mode

Hi,

SPOILERS about the Lester assassinations, careful! And also about getting f*ing rich using the stockmarket

I've been playing all the story missions, saving all my money with all three characters, and waiting till the end before doing all the Lester assassinations. The aim was to get maximum cash for all characters before buying properties, tuning cars, getting planes etc.

I got around 40 millions for each character in the last heist and started doing the Lester assassinations. With just one assassination remaining, i was up to 1,2 billion dollars for each character. But of course every character had a slightly different amount of money in the bank since they don't get paid the same during the storyline.

Now tonight i logged onto the social club so that the stockmarket would work, and i did the last assassination at the construction site. As i expected, i got a 80% profit with the Goldcoast shares, and every character now has around 2,1 billion in the bank. I saved my game and went on to do the last stockmarket related mission: getting that Hitcher (hitch lift 1) to the airport in order to get the 30% increase on the Tinkle shares.

BUT SOMEHOW ALL 3 CHARACTERS NOW HAVE THE EXACT SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY. And when i play that mission and invest all the money into Tinkle, the 30% let me have a profit of about 700 million dollars, but none of the characters can actually get that money. I sell everything and it just goes back to 2,1 billion when i should have 2,8. I played the mission several times, invested before and after dropping the guy off at the airport, it changes nothing. What's weird also, beside the fact that somehow all have exactly the same amount of money, is that when i buy shares, it actually wants me to buy for more money than i have. So there's definitely a problem with my bank accounts and bawsaq.

Hope someone has had similar problems and solved them. I'm gutted because my last save that isn't affected by that problem is before the final mission and i don't want to play all that again now.

Thanks for reading all this. Cheers,

Well, here it is: i was so bugged by this problem that i played the final mission again, and then all the assassinations (plus stockmarket every time). I did seperate saves after each successful job and once again, when doing the final mission, the max money you can get is 2,147,483,647 dollars. Each character has that amount of money, and you can't earn more.

See here: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/128317-GTA-V-2-147-483-647-Glitch-Could-Wipe-Your-Cash-Away

So beware. I'm loading up the last save before the last job, and i will sell my shares from Goldcoast before they peak at 80% profit, in order to have just under 2,145,000,000 dollars. This way, i won't get the glitch!

There is no glitch-- the numerical limit of the game is 2^31 or $2,147,483,648

You can have more money then that (as long as you don't sell all the shares at one time)-- the limit is the amount of cash you can have on hand.

To get around it-- save before you sell and sell only enough shares so you don't go over that limit--- you will then have to buy shares of another stock before selling more of the current stock.

I'm still wondering why everyone keeps trying to get this high-- I have between 1.6 and 1.8 billion between my characters-- and have bought everything I can possibly think of.... and still have more money then I know what to do with.

Glitch or mathematical limit, the in-game money counter starts acting weird once you reach that amount. For example, when you pay something (like ammo at ammu-nation, clothes, ...), the red numbers (e.g. - 45) never leave your screen. Well, that's what it did on my game. I haven't encountered the "negative money" problem described in the link i posted. And i've deleted the faulty savegame.

I have now 2,1 billion with each character. I agree with you Spuds, it's way too much money. I bought everything an still have around 2 billion. It's not that we need all that money, but i think that people are just interested in getting the most out of those Lester assassinations. You have to do them anyway, and Lester keeps telling you to invest in various stocks. So you might as well get something out of it.

Keeping money as stocks could also work, not a bad idea.
