Ok I see on the bacc of the GTA V box that the Gold account is needed but for all of you mutherf*ccerz that get up here calling people trolls let the records show that I created my online character without a gold account but with a silver one and even played a few missions b4 I started receiving network errors not upgrade messages OK?! Had I put this in bugs and glitches we'd definitely know who the trolls are. Later bitchez.

...someone already said it, you were obviously playing during one of the free gold weekends, which allows silver accounts to play online without the need of any 48-hour passes like you mentioned.

 

Simply put, there is absolutely no way to play online without Gold

 

...with the exception of things like XBConnect or XLink Kai which allow you to play local LAN supported games over the Internet; which GTA Online will not ever support.

 

Just sign in through Bing and you should be fine. If you have Xbox Live Gold through Bing, you have to sign in using Bing.

He means the bing rewards program, which allows you to turn usage of bing into free microsoft points or xbox live gold, among other things.

if it was around the 4th october xbox had a free gold weekend for silver members to use all xbl services for a few days im thinking thats when you had access to the online portion and made the player and as for receiving the title updates that happens regardless iirc as you connect to xbl with silver and the games set to auto update as title updates can effect offline content too

This is because you were not actually connected to other players, so therefore your silver membership would have allowed you to do this.

 

Let me guess, you never got past the part where you had to visit the shops (in free roam).
