Start boost is nonsense.

One of the very few things right about GTA5 driving is the geatway being dependant on the throttle position. Avoiding wheelspin with partial throttle inputs instead of full gas is actually faster of the line this time, which is great.

 

But this start boost thing wrecks it. You should remove it.

 

I´m gobsmacked at the approach to racing you took in this game. If the core handling being sh*t wasn´t enough, you add unrealistic splisptream (impossible to turn off), start boost...

 

You should have used common sense and added a hardcore option for racing. With all these silly things off, longer races of several laps, only good circuits like Vinewood Nights... Hey, maybe racing wouldn´t be pointless like that, and you´d get people racing for fun too and not only to get easy RP and money!

 

Cater us racers, please!! Give as an option to enjoy proper racing without this stupid stuff in the way.

I agree. R* doesn't care about craft. They care about numbers. We need another Jack Thomson to remind R* what their f*cking priorities should be.

I dont mind the boost starts to be honest. Is it realistic? Not really but it is very easy to do and pretty much anyone can do them, plus that being said they dont really give you a advantage anyway, as people easily catch back up to you by the first corner wheter they boost started or not.

 

As for hardcore racing? I dont think we have ever had that in a GTA game and never will to be honest. Thats whats Gran Tursimo and similar games are for. When i am hosting i like to use what i consider more true racing based settings 2 - 3 laps atleast, depending on the track. Catchup off, no traffic etc. Plus you said it should be on good tracks like Vinewood Nights but different tracks suit different people and just because you like certain tracks doesn't mean the rest of the people who like to race alot agree.

I have to agree. I love racing games of all types, and although gtao isn't a racing game by definition, it contains racing and cars are central to the game itself, making racing a natural fit. But they added arcade elements that may be just fine for a SP game but just don't feel right in multiplayer.

Agreed. The start boost is awful.. and the slipstream is even worse. I love the races on here, but could do without both features.

the thing that really needs to be fixed is the ramming.im sick to death of losing racings because some twat rams into you.it should be set in a way that if you touch someone you spin out and it would eliminate that sh*t n people could actually have a clean race

I feel like alot of complaints are based off a 1 lap race at the prison. Any race thats 3laps+ or a long point to point race is pretty simple since just about everyone crashes or cant handle their car. By lap 2 at the prison assuming i havent been wrecked nobodys even close to me, I think im a pretty good racer and have been doing really well in this game but its prob not cause im good but because everyone else is so bad.

In a couple of weeks you will be able to make your own races with the content creator.

I hate you type of people though dude. This is a racing game. This is a shooting game. That's it. I wish I didn't find so many people these days so f*cking ignorant. It's nice to like people.

This isn't a racing game or a shooting game, this is an open world RPG with multiple aspects. You can't possibly expect them to cater to one aspect any more then the other. If you don't like racing because its not amazing, and you are a racer, then take the time to look at the game from the perspective of someone who likes shooting games. The aiming mechanic and guns in general are pretty bad as well. I love doing TDMs but its just not what I had been expecting either.

 

However, I took a moment and actually thought about it, and as a whole this game is pretty amazing. They implement so many things in to a single open world, that its really hard to argue about one factor. Something to this scale on this type of game hasn't been done before, and this is a huge step forward. I'm gonna love to see where they take it in the future, and what other games will follow suit and improve on this as well.

I don't mind the boost. I think they need to completely get rid of slipstream and catch up, those are annoying. It's also too easy for someone to pit maneuver you. I raced a lot in IV, was one of the best, but I just can't catch on with V's racing.

I´m looking forward for circuit creator. Got some great ideas to create stuff as good as Vinewood Nights circuit.

 

I reckon this game has potential to be a good recer without the silly gimmicks. Rain and slow car classes (like American cars) solve the core handling problems so it´s still possible to have a fun race. Don´t believe me? Grab a bunch of friends, race Vinewood Nights under rain in Amercian cars and you´ll be surprised.

 

But they need to get rid of start boost slipstream and that crap. And if they modify core handling so we don´t have to race in poor cars and the rain to drive anything similar to an actual car, it would be nice too.

The start boost has no real function, as you will bump into the guy in front of you and the slipstream is just a clever simple way to allow overtaking a similiar car.

 

I like most of the races so far, except for the extreme straight ones (the Route 68 or the one in the LS river..)

Because last GTA game provided physics that made treating the game that way very enjoyable?

 

Because this one is still enjoyable that way when certain settings are used?

 

Because ramming idioticly between traffic is boring unless you´re under 10 years old, while driving as fast as possible surrounded by other clean and fast racers is always fun?

 

Because getting good at driving fast as possible will make you win far more often than crashing into everything that´s moving?

 

Because rammers can´t drive and always lose on proper races with corners and long?

As a matter of fact, anyone who's interested in good clean racing with fellow enthusiasts, feel free to join up, the more members, the better the chance of joining/hosting a lobby with clean racers, makes sense to me.

 

Once we get some more members together and we can properly establish a hierarchy, I'd like to start hosting cruises and maybe car shows too, all in the name of fun and hanging out.

Racing in this game could definitely do with some tweaking, but added extra game modes would only split the player base even further than it already is (and it's already a massive pain trying to get a race going that isn't a solo).

 

Slipstream is definitely overpowered and needs to have both the effective distance and strength of the boost cut in half, catch-up is an abomination that precludes any races using it from being anything besides a bad joke and needs to be removed from the game ASAP, and whoever was responsible for catch-up should be promptly sacked, then sacked again (also wik).

 

Cars ramming each other is GTA working as intended, we're street racers not pro racers (despite what the stats menu might indicate) and anyone who has a problem with this either needs to pull the stick out of their ass or go play Forza.

 

Turbo boost I can go either way on, it's largely irrelevant and takes no more than practiced timing to achieve consistently. Anyone who can't get it consistently with practice is a scrub who shouldn't be racing anyway, and anyone who sucks at racing won't get any better by having that extra boost (more likely they'll just push their car harder than they know how to handle). No one who's good at racing needs a turbo to win either, so again it's largely irrelevant whether it's there or not.

But people asking for extra game modes are hurting everyone, unless R* radically overhauls it's matchmaking system then any more game modes being added will make it that much harder to find any match whatsoever. You may only want clean races, but I'm happy to take any race I can get, and no one will be able to get anything if the player base becomes too divided.

Great posts mate, totally respect and agree with your opinions, I had not fully taken into account, your point of lobbies being empty as is, making more game modes would only further alienate people who like certain styles of play.

 

I think rockstars crew system is a great idea and clever solution to this, which is why I plan to take advantage of it

If a game protects you against dirty racers it's going way too far. Bad drivers and assholes are obstacles just like lampposts and dividers. Avoid or pit, race on.

To be fair though, this is true, but only to a point.. There are reasons disqualifications and penalties exist in real life races.. And not just concerning safety.

People want to race, then they go to a race, people want to smash up, then they go to a derby...

No one pulls out a baseball bat in a football game...
