Advice for land races

Ok so today I stumbled upon a small problem.

 

I am level 21, I have had the game since release but I don't get to play it very often due to work commitments.

 

I love playing the races online and I have played a few in the last few weeks and have won a few lost a few.

 

Today however, I had about 3 hours of doing races, I was just joining quick events and every race I got into I got smoked as the use custom car option was enabled.

 

Not saying there is anything wrong with that infact I can understand that if people have got some high end mods for the vehicle they will wanna show them off.

 

I decided that most lobbies would have this option enabled so i tried to host my own with the custom car option disabled. After waiting for ages nobody joined or if they did they backed out straight away,

 

So Im stuck, as my two best cars, my elegy and my sultan have all the mods currently avaliable to me but arent fast enough to keep up with everybody but also can't find players for my own lobby.

 

Does anyone have any advice which may help me?

 

I'm not looking to do 1 v 1 or anything like that I just want to see if there's anything I can do to "level the playing field"

At this point..nope. Only thing you can do is keep joining different lobbies until you find the right races
