He's a rather polite guy. His ambiguous reply about Nikko is hard to know what he means. Is he quiet as in laying low ... Or has his past caught up and he has been quieted? Lester was basically making remarks about Crew members, and he mentioned that eastern european guy (Niko) who went quiet. if he would been dead, he would not have even mentioned him. So Niko is most likely still alive, but gave up his criminal way of life and retired. however i wonder if Niko might have moved over to San Andreas, Rockstar once indicated that. i mean why would lester take him in consideration when he lives in LC? being hours away from San Andreas. Doesnt by no means indicate that he's 100% alive. Point is, theres no solid evidence for him being dead or alive. Him having a life invade page means nothing, we dont know how long ago that page was made...he could have made one right after the story in GTA IV. On the way there he tells everyone about the bank job in Liberty City....he then goes through the names of the people he did it with, when he gets to Niko he says "he's probably dead now". He assumes he's dead rather than knowing. I believe in Niko's life invader page. He's living a mundane life driving taxis now. The least thing that rockstar can do about niko if his voice actor ever comes back will be a prequel to gta 4 , showing Bellic's war nightmare's in his unknown homeland back in eastern europe. With Niko, I`m sure there`s a reason they didn`t explicitly specify that he`s dead. That way, we might even catch a glimpse of him in the next game or a DLC, like how we saw him in the EFLC and how we see Claude in SA. But I certainly hope that they`ll never again make him a central character.
