I kinda have to agree with this. Literally the Quick start thing does absolutely sh*t because, like you said, the guy will just slipstream past you. It does take some skill though.

Trying to beat world record could be fun (solo of with friends) though, and require some skill, if only the times weren't so f*cked up, with impossible (cheat or bug) times to beat in most of the track, in particular the lap record ones.

Totally true, slipstream is terribly unrealistic, as you get slingshot past the guy like he is sitting still.

 

I really hope they look into it.

It's really not that big of an issue , I race with a buddy last night whose really good. Catch up was on and about 6-9 other racers. He got in first 5 out of 7 and I got first the other two times. And that's typically true when I race with him in other racing games.

Meh, i've done some freaking awesome driving to get back into pole position after being smashed into at the first corner because people who don't understand how to race choose to race.

 

If you're not one of the tards that just smashes people off the road, it requires skill. If you are one of those tards though, it doesn't really matter.

Catch up is lame but is countered by traffic. It doesn't matter how fast you can go when traffic pops ups constantly keeping players in the back..behind.

 

The wipe out needs to be fixed. It was better in GTA 4.

 

Its weird that cars have such huge traction which can be nulled by a tiny bump.

 

Slip streaming is not that big of an issue but it could be adjusted. Because it does basically work like that. If you're in 1st you need to keep him behind you and force him to bump you forward instead just accept he had you where he wanted.

I have trouble winning by racing like one should race, it's easy if you go lame and creep on 1st place, then overtake him at the end, it's almost difficult not to overtake him, that's how much slipstream is overpowered

 

edit: well no that's not right either, I can win races. I just hate losing to idiots who can't race, I mean, if I get a quick start and fly past them at the beginning, don't make any mistakes, take the fastest route through the curves etc. I should win, I can do a perfect race but still lose because some idiot gets assisted by slipstream or catchup.

 

Oh and if I want to unlock sh*t for my car I have to win races but most of the races I join are with custom cars enabled, and the host obviously enabled it because he has a badass custom car. so unfair

It's true, 90% of my wins were from second place and then pass the number one via slipstream.

I like the idea of their racing but I hate what it is. I've played a few last night and I have fun but this game doesn't reward staying in first place and actually using skill to drive perfectly. For instance. Last night when I played I was in a constant battle with a guy who refused to just race side by side with me. He insisted on staying a close to my bumper as he could until the second to last check point. after a few races of coming in second or getting spun out right before the finish for refusing to create an opening I gave up being nice and just spun out anyone who tried to pass me from a slipstream. I know this isn't supposed to be forza but I didn't expect it to be mario kart or diddy kong racing instead.

I hate catchup as well but if you can get longer races or multiple lap races it dosent matter, Ive never had someone even close to me after 1 or 2 laps of a race with catchup on. Everyones so busy wrecking that they just leave the door open for whoevers behind them. If your smart and dont get stuck in some morons wreckfest you should have no problems winning. You just need to find a race that isnt 1 lap at the prison.

 

You have to race smart Ive purposely dropped to the back of the field just so i can pick everyone off after they wreck and its not impossible to hold off slipstreamers, Ive won a bunch of times with people right behind me. Just stay low and make them pass you on the outside.

Catchup is the issue, it's what guarantees that people make it into your slipstream. Slipstream on its own is perfectly fine, and works really well in races with catchup off. Using it while entering a turn, or having the other person maneuver in front of you to prevent you from passing, or having the other person hit the brakes, these are all things that can cause you to potentially lose control of your vehicle while trying to use someone's slipstream.

 

Of course, that doesn't really matter with catchup on, because losing control of your vehicle just means it'll be another ten seconds before you're right back on their ass.

 

Preventing someone from passing you is skill-based, as is bypassing someone's attempt to prevent you from passing them, along with preventing someone from entering your slipstream in the first place. With catchup on, most if not all of that skill is made null and void.

 

Catchup should be set to off by default, pretty sure almost everyone would leave it the way it is, the same way they do now.

Uh what? Slip streaming happens in real life racing. Look it up. So it's pretty realistic.

I've had a lot of fun with it. There's a lot of strategy which, to me anyway, is a lot more fun than just a straight forward race. It also allows people who might not be that good at driving to have a shot at winning. If you want straight up racing just go to Forza or whatever. This is GTA and it wouldn't be enjoyable without some crashing and bashing. When I'm in front I like the intensity of knowing someone is coming up on me which is especially true if they crashed at some point and I have a pretty good lead and am closing in on the finish line. I beat someone by inches last night like that and it was great. He slip streamed at the last but it was just a second or two too late. Some of my most enjoyable races where when it was a large group and we were all bunched up nearly the whole time smashing and jostling for position because there was no way to tell who would win until right up to the end. We were all laughing and cursing and it was a blast.
