thenamesbeer
So, I know that GTA VI is a long, long way off, if on its way at all. That doesn't mean though that I can't dream a little about where I think it should be set. This may not (and probably never will) happen, but here goes: Living in the north of England, I can't help but feel that it is always overlooked in favour of places like London for settings in fiction, but if this were to be the setting for Grand Theft Auto VI, it would be awesome: from the north/south divide in England, right up to the Shetlands in Scotland. Here's why: THE CITIES: There would be four cities: Liverpool in the south west, Manchester in the South Centre, Edinburgh in the North East and Glasgow in the north west. - Liverpool Liverpool would be a fantastic setting, in my opinion: it is a decent sized city, but is actually very good looking and often associated with hardened criminals. It is a coastal town, and there are beaches in it's northern suburbs. Football (soccer) hooliganism, dodgy developers and drug deals could be involved here. - Manchester Manchester, too, is very interesting. Linked to Liverpool with canals, the 'Greater Manchester' area is much larger than Liverpool's 'Merseyside' area. The city is sprawling, with a more undefineable 'downtown' area than say, Liverpool. Once again, football hooliganism could be incorporated, with the addition of dodgy businesses, canal drug runs... I'm sure there are plenty of inventive missions. Oh, there are also a few tall buildings. The Liverpool and Manchester music scene has brought the world bands like Oasis, The Beatles, Elvis Costello and the Arctic Monkeys (technically Sheffield, but still northern). - Edinburgh Arguably the most attractive city of the four, Edinburgh is the Capital of Scotland and home to Edinbugh Castle, the world famous fringe festival and Victorian streets. Built on a Dormant volcano. Perhaps throwbacks to the notorious 1800s body snatchers 'Burke and Hare', who killed people to sell their bodies, as well as Deacon Brodie, the Scottish minister who lived a secret life as a burglar. A very glamorous city when it's at its busiest, and it snows there in the winter. Also, there are pandas in the zoo! - Glasgow The most dangerous city on this list. Glasgow is known for being poverty and crime-stricken, brutal cities not just in the UK but in the world, and if you need proof of this, google 'Glasgow Smile' (TIP: Think 'The Joker'). You could include the drug empires, but also the famous case of the uncaught serial killer 'Bible John', who murdered three people in 1968-9. THE COUNTRYSIDE: - The Lake District - The Peak District - The Yorkshire Moors - The Grampians - The Shetland Isles So, that's my 2 cents. I really would love to see this happen one day, and also want to see what your dreams are for the setting of GTA VI? Chicago? Detroit/Canadian Boarder? Vice City and Cuba? Vice city and Orlando? Does anyone share, or would like to see, my vision realized?

TakinThyBacon
I would like to see a GTA Europe, with multiple cities and county sides, London, Paris, the French and English countryside and of course a mock English channel with a chunnel and the Cliffs of Dover. I am American, but I would like to see an expansion outside of the US.

Alas, maybe some day. I really think that if anyone can do it, R* can. I do kinda hope that Agent is in the format of a mix between Max Payne linearity and GTA open-ness, but I haven't the faintest idea how that could work. Agent's set during the cold war though, so Europe could play a big part of it...
Average white guy
I think GTA is going to stay in the US. My reason is in the title itself "Grand Theft Auto", a game about cars. Lets be honest compared to other countries, the US has the most automotive variety. It would be cool to see a GTA in different country besides the US, but no one wants a game where most of the vehicles are compact cars.
SirTerning
Why not Vice City? Like really.. Have people totally forgot that they have not visited Vice City since GTA:VCS? Or do you not care? But still you got a good idea going here, but it is something that would not fit (IMO) to the way GTA works now since it really just is a parody of the US

Sweettooth187
Well considering it looks like the OP has been needlessly ass reamed already for sharing his England idea, I'll paste my idea which I just posted elsewhere. I was thinking last night, the next game ought to be a GTAV scale version of Las Venturas, set in the mid to late 70's. It'd be cool to expand on the desert area, with more drugs, hippies, and alien conspiracy. Past that the game would basically follow a theme from the likes of the movie Casino. Cool no? thenamesbeer

Rossyb83
I will tell you the main reason why GTA will likely never be set in the north of England/Scotland; accents. Think about Rockstars market, they are selling this game to mostly americans, though clearly this is a popular game world wide and thanks to the proliferation of US television and movies worldwide most of us outside of the US are familiar with the language and culture, not true the other way around however. Being from the South of England I can tell you right now I can barley understand a thick nothern accents, especially when they really get going. Liverpool accent: Manchester accent: Scottish: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZR9K1hpntpE Could you imagine, if you were not from any of those places, the majority of the characters talking like this throughout a 50 hour long game??? If I were doing a game set in the UK though and wanted a good theme running throughout I would set it in the 80's, football hooliganism reached its height in 85, the sex pistols were the voice of a disenfranchised youth and the Thatcher government had alot to do with this. If not GTA a similar type of game would have some great material to work with. Udrift and thenamesbeer

DaGGerz
The game is formed as a parody of a pure stereotypical America where drugs, violence, sex and capitalism are the core. The stereotypes of other countries are not as extreme as in America so a GTA game any where else will not fulfill the main criteria. Even though most of the company at Rockstar are from the UK... IveGotNoValues
I was sleepless in my bed last night for some reason (insomnia) and I was kind of speculating on VI. I came up with the idea of VI being set in Mexico and the main theme of the storyline could be the drug cartel. They could have a parody city based on Tijuana and have a Mexican/American border (possibly including Los Santos up north). I don't know, it sounded like a really good idea last night thenamesbeer
