Vrgadin
I ll start off by saying that the story mode of GTA V is good. free roam on the other hand is boring and a chore. I thought of explaining my opinion on the matter. Way back when....when GTA was still GTA, the game centered around pure fun and anarchy. It felt like you were a walking army in a world of law enforcement which was completely caught off guard by your status as a walking terror. IT was amazing, enthralling and downright fun in those days. I recently realized why i am not enjoying a large portion of 5. The roles have been completely reversed. I now feel ill equipped and un prepared to deal with the cops in 5. no matter what loadout or skills i employ i feel outgunned and outmatched. its become a chore to survive instead of feeling of godliness as in pre 4 titles. i think that was at the soul of gta and what made it great:mayhem and now im afraid to slap a ho in the woods. jerrodh7244
I can agree the game has taken a different direction, more towards realism I guess you could say. But that started with GTA:IV. Honestly I wish they would just add the inventory system that online has so you can stockpile snacks, then give us the ability to buy the full body suit of heavy armor from the Heist. IF they added those two things fighting off cops would be fine, least for awhile. All while retaining the realism.
Revoemag
Learn to play dude...cops aren't hard at all...stop playing like you did in the past and start playing as if its real life...get out of your car and hide down alleys and under overpasses....driving 200mph down the highway won't get you to far before the cops catch up. Being in a car while the cops are chasing you is a garanted death trap. Flachbau
DrDetroit
Agree with Revomag 100%. It's a different style of game play and you gotta be good to escape and use LOS and the cover system to survive. I didn't like it at all at first, but now I'm use to it and all is well and very fun time being had on my part. With that said; the gripe I have is the cops spawning right next to you at times. I'm on a rooftop with one access point, and somehow there are several cops sneaking up behind me (not the Noose guys rappelling from the chopper...just regular street cops). Seems a lot better than day-1 of the release, but the spawning still needs a little tweaking. Good day, DrDetroit
GrndZero
Has anyone found any good choke points to fend them all off? Someplace that has cover and will not let the cops get behind you? Someplace that is memorable. I remember a couple places like this in IV. The bathrooms in the park, there was a garage type place by the Ferrari dealership also. Druffmaul
Man, I have always felt so out of step with most GTA fans and this topic really underlines that. To me the cops in GTA V are pathetic compared the PS2 era GTAs. It's so freaking easy to evade and bamboozle them, hide right under their noses until they just give up after a minute or so. In the PS2 era they were on your ass for infinity until you DID SOMETHING about it, i.e. go to a pay n spray or find enough wanted-drop icons, which was a real hassle if you had more than one or two stars. I can't believe anyone would whine about the pussy ass bumbling cops in this game. Grow some balls. abruptjones

Now that i think about it, its not "real" at all. but thanks for your knee jerk response.... Udrift and lincolnimp

Never understood why so many people think that's the only reason to play GTA. I remember when GTA 3 came out, I wasn't interested in a game about driving regular cars around a regular city pulling crimes. Not my idea of escapism. But a friend was in love with the game and he made it his mission in life to get me on board. He literally forced me to borrow his copy. "If you give just give it a chance, you'll love it. I promise." A few days later he asked "So how do you like it." "Eh, it's pretty boring, like I thought it would be." "Well what are you doing in it?" "I dunno, just playing it. Doing the missions." "No, no, no! No wonder you think it's boring! The missions suck! No, just go around fvkcing siht up, use cheat codes, kill as many people as possible, fight the cops, it's so rad!" So I tried playing it like that, and I thought it was even more boring, and more stupid to boot. I chalked it up to the fact that my dumbass friend was also into WWF. Kind of a moron. Kind of a moron. ok well here is another example. i would actually love being rewarded for a stealth kill with the realism of nobody being alerteed. BUT in gta5 if i silence a ped or cop in the back of the head in the woods at night or a deserted alley i somehow alert the cops. so forget the mindless carnage, meet me halfway and at least give me that. The thing is you cant do ANYTHING fun in this game without a 30 sec gunfight that results in death Edited October 17, 2013 by Vrgadin
DFW333
I was just way out in the middle of nowhere on the ocean with the Dinghy looking for submarine pieces and a shark came up. So I got back in the boat and was about to shoot the shark. A f*cking police boat spawned out of nowhere, pulled up beside me and shot me dead causing me to spawn in f*cking Sandy Shores. Now I have to go all the way back to LS, change back into the Scuba Outfit (why the f*ck am I in a Tuxedo now anyway?) get to LSIA and fly back up to the Sonar Dock to get the Dinghy and then navigate all the way back around the god damn island to get back to where I was at on my collections. This game just lost all enjoyment and playability for me. Also in the guidebook it says you can get a respray at LS Customs to lose the cops. No you cant. You pull up at LS Customs (or any store) you are told to lose the cops before you can enter. Edited October 17, 2013 by DFW333
Kifflom
Yeah, even before V came out, I was saying they were going to get everything right BUT the fun. Rockstar hasn't made a real mayhem game since SA; that was almost ten eyars ago. Everything since has been this downward spiral towards the opposite end of the spectrum - instead of "freedom", we're given "scripted events". Instead of "mindless anarchy" and "fun", we're given "plot" and "middle-brow moral posturing". The cop situation is the single biggest problem with GTAV - if it weren't for that, the game would be a shoe-in for GOTY. As it is, no matter how much window dressing they pile on top, the heart and soul of GTA just isn't there. I really hope Rockstar patches and rebalances this sh*t... but honestly, I doubt they will. I suspect it's WAD. Rockstar's not the company that gave us GTA2 anymore. They're the company that gave us Red Dead and LA Noire. The old Rockstar, the awesome Rockstar, the Trevor Rockstar, is long gone and I don't think it's ever coming back. Uhwoahnohuh
Yeah i agree alot. Gta used to be more of a criminal world, where you can pretty much do whatever you want....I Can remember playing Gta 2 as a kid, You wont get in trouble for fist fighting, But now looking at a cop for 5 seconds gets you shot in the temple Man its like the last of us now lol
Harce
This game sucks, honestly. In previous gtas I always finished storyline in about 2 weeks. This game I got on release date and I have no interest in the storyline. I'm halfway through the game but i just don't get that old feeling anymore. It doesn't have me coming back for more. I liked gta v even though they went more towards realism. This game has a whole bunch of small things that add up. Certain interiors u can't run, start fights, and draw your gun. No girlfriends. No gyms. Low health, which means you can't really get into some lenghty gun fights. No gang storyline, when this game is based on los angeles " gang capitol". Stupid helicopter controls, seriously give me headaches. Customizing characters are limited to each player according to their style, come on man i would like to see Trevor clean for once. No vigilante missions. No jetpack. This game was a big dissapointment for a gta game. f*ck you fanboys if you guys get offended! I've been playing gta since I was 13. And I'm not affraid to admit that rockstar can f*ck stuff up. If we as fans don't saying anything, rockstar will continue to give us crap. And that amount of crap will get bigger and bigger if we don't say anything. All these reviews giving the game a 9.5 or perfect 10. Gtfoh! In my opinion it should of be an 8 or something. For taking a step back in the gta franchise. This game shouldve been a gta san andreas on f*ckin steroids! f*ck you rockstar! lincolnimp
Glenni91
I think the most amusing way to hide from cops was to hide in a dumpster, with 4 stars, in an alley so the helicopters couldn't spot me ,and they all ran past me, eventually i lost the wanted level from hiding there. Yoshack_Fyre
What about running from the cops in a car. Getting out, running down and alley and back onto the street, stealing another car, driving that down an alley, getting out, stealing a third car, drive down the road, pass a cop while you have a Wanted level....and they know it's you, INSTANTLY. Not much realism there. I too am afraid to slap a ho in the woods. You'll have a wanted level before any witness could have called the police and given your description. There isn't a lot of realism in GTA IV and V at all, just the illusion of realism. Vrgadin and Miketv
tresshold
I know what you feel. rampaging with cops always ends up wasted, I hardly can escape these days. now you have to sit in a corner hiding, a fast car isn't a good getaway anymore. ShapelessHorr0r
The idea is that you have to play smarter or act like you would in RL. steelersfan101
I would have to agree with all on favor of cops. They r a better challenge and great stup up from previous gta games. Other games became super boring after u realized how retarted the cops were in previous titles. Now these cops on the other hand make u use what driving skill u have to elude and prevail over them. The only complant i have is the helicopters i would lose the cops and wait for the cool down and as soon as im about to lose them for good a helicopter comes outta nowwhere and finds me thats the bull i have

Just about every vehicle on the road became an army jeep with 4 motherf*ckers with heavy armor and machineguns. Almost every ped was a national guardsman toting similar gear. And every roadblock was at least two tanks just launching 1 hit kill shells at your ass non-stop. This game the cops seem so bad ass because it only takes a few bullets to put you down, which is probably to put emphasis on the cover system (which I really liked in IV and think they did an even better job in V). But losing the cops in this game is so ridiculously easy. Just head to a subway tunnel. Anything underground the cops have serious trouble with. You want good interiors to fight? Inside the entrance to any subway station. Just hide around the corner and let the cops come down the stairs. If you get to banged up there is an eCola machine down on the train platforms where you can refill your health. The one by the airport is great because most of the cops are armed with Carbine Rifles so you can replenish ammo quickly. Also learn to blind fire. If you are in cover pushing the movement stick up or towards the edge of cover will cause to poke your head out. While poking your head out your crosshair will appear and allows you to line up your blind fire shots. The best part is that most of the time while poking your head out you won't take any damage. Hooves07
I personally am not having trouble evading cops. It's a little tricky in Blaine Co. as cover is sparse. What I have trouble with is the wanted system in general. I am tired of evading the cops every 5 minutes. Why would I play GTA in the first f*cking place if I wanted to be a good citizen? Cop spawns are bullsh*t at times and their accuracy (all AI) is on the crackshot side. (a lot of good armor does when two cops land headshots). kasheku
pwnisher130
I do like the cop cone system as it is fairly easy to lose them, the only complaint I have is how you get a wanted star for very little infractions. However I really do not like how most peds call the cops when my character talks to them or sometimes when I'm just simply standing there waiting for a taxi. kamikazeedriver and kasheku
woggleman
The cops are seriously easy to lose and fight. The other day I lasted nearly an hour in a shootout with the cops that only ended when I blew myself up with a grenade. In the PS2 games when you had a wanted level it stayed with you and shootouts were not as fun.
Crunch McThornbody
Casual Normal Hard That's what R* should've added to the start of the game, so that people like me who want to go on crazy long Hollywoodesque shootouts/driveouts with the cops can do so on Casual setting without getting killed in 3 f*cking shots and run around with half health level, and the "learn to play the game" snobs can set it to Hard and feel all superior over other people over a game. Not every gamer is (or wants to be) a hardcore player, too many hardcore players forget this. kamikazeedriver
I agree. It is different. In some ways I like it and sometimes I don't. Often times, I'm in the middle if something and a ped will start a fight with me. I win, then I'm the bad guy. Now I'm trying to evade the cops and sometimes it's a simple matter. Other times, it escalates quickly and I've got a 4 star wanted level. By now, I'm ticked and pulling the rocket launcher. Now the cops are real pissed, eventually I die, and all I started out trying to-do was drive to Los Santos customs.
