It's a little too late to go prude on us, Rockstar. What gives?

 

Everyone who's playing online has access to the base single player game. And the single player game already includes topless strippers, Trevor's ass, and old man cannibal penis. So why, exactly, are all the strippers bundled up in winter parkas, and why is my character showering in her clothes? It's not like censoring the online portion of the game is going to magically save our virgin eyes, not when we've already got an eyeful of old man cannibal penis. On top of that, games traditionally disavow responsibility for their online content. Technically, this is because they can't guarantee against Junior running afoul of griefers screaming racial slurs and radical Communist slogans, but it's a precedent that could easily be extended to pre-generated content.

 

It feels so awkward and out of place, like shooting an eight year old in the head and then putting a cute little Hello Kitty band-aid over her still-smoking face-hole.

I've read Germany censors some game content, and I know Australia really has a stick up it's ass when it comes to game ratings. I would imagine that is the reason why, that online content is much harder to censor then it is to simply remove stuff from singleplayer.

If the problem really is other countries getting butthurt by freedom, then quite frankly, those countries should just shut up and deal. Just because a couple of nations have absolutely asanine social policies, that doesn't mean that MY gaming experience should be ruined, too.

 

Google rules are bullsh*t. Online content must always ere on the side of openness and liberalism. If that means that certain nations will have a tougher time restricting their citizen's freedom, GOOD. That's the whole f*cking point of the internet. I mean, think about it this way: the only possible reason to justify blanket censorship on these grounds, is that my freedoms are infringing on those nation's "rights" to oppress their own citizens. (note the sneer quotes - no nation has a right to do this, regardless of what their ruler-class might claim) Yet the flip side of this: their censorship policies are infringing on MY right to NOT be oppressed! Which is a real right.

 

So anyway, f*ck 'em all.

 

 

P.S. Does Australia even allow GTA? Those bastards banned Mortal Kombat, I wouldn't be surprised if GTA was banned there, too.

You really think Rockstar (a business) is going to not ship GTA Online to other countries because you feel getting to see digital nudity is somehow a right given to you by your nation? No, I'm thinking that those countries are gonna have to f*cking deal with an online mode that might not meet their 13th century standards of conduct, because of the rest of us are paying customers too, and our gameplay experience is just as valid and economically important as theirs. In fact, it's MORE important, because there are a lot more people living in countries where the government realizes that pixelated boobies won't bring about the end of civilization. If you wanna play the callous economic pragmatist card (because CAPITALISM), that means appeasing US is a lot more important than appeasing THEM.

 

Ahhh, but if only I was King, and could ban software that selectively censors it's own content!
