Good strategy to avoid getting pitted in races?

Anyone have any advice for what to do when the person trailing you is trying to pit you or run your vehicle off the road? I've found success is just letting go of the accelerator to get behind them, but this isn't an option when we're close to the finish line.

Try and spin out in front of them so they crash and spin out giving you time to carry on the race, or just brake so he drives past you then carry on with the race

Slamming on the brakes just before they hit you. You have to time it just right but they go flying into a wall and you cross the line. Its hilarious everytime. Especially when your victory animation is the bird, lol

Basically you can tell from the start if someones a racer or a pitter, if they race then they'll just zoom off and dodge traffic to genuinely beat you, if they're a pitter they'll hang by you or even fall behind you then go to ram you
