How to drop weapons?

Do sometimes when I arm my character it says I can drop it with Y and drop ammo with X. But I've tried to drop weapons I don't use, but it doesn't seem to work. As anyone been able to drop their weapons in GTA V Online?

Go to the weapon wheel, then press Y to drop the weapon. It only works when the weapon wheel is up.

Holy crap, I've been trying to get this to work forever... It would have been nice if the game specified that! It's stupid of them to have only half the instructions show up, if anything it should say to press Y/triangle to drop when in the weapon wheel.

Actually the game DOES tell you how to do it. Top left corner of the screen there are 2 lines. One says how to drop a weapon and the other says how to drop ammo.

also doesnt work all the time, sometimes when i go to drop the pistol, which i do multiple times a session, it glitches to another weapon, usually a machine gun, and no weapon is dropped

I noticed you can dupe weapons like this

yesterday a mate wanted the crowbar so I dropped it for him and than dashboarded out of the game

when I got back we both had the crowbar

which got me thinking you could use this to get free ammo

 

need 2 players, A and B

A drops all his ammo B picks it up A dashboards out of the game and rejoins with all his ammo back

B drops all his ammo A picks it up and now has at least twice the ammo he started with B dashboards out etc.

repeat

profit.

Funny this should pop up. I tried to drop a gun earlier and just kept dropping ammo. Yes, I was pushing the right button.

Although you can drop them, you can't permanently get rid of purchased weapons no matter what you do* (I'd like to get rid of the Micro SMG but no matter how many times it's dropped, when I go to a new session / restart the game, it's back) and that may even apply to weapons that were "somehow gifted" to you like the Up-N-Atomizer or whatever.

Try dropping the weapon and forcing a save soon after by switching clothes, it should work.

Nope, but I think you can shoot it and it will detonate(I know that you can do this with the Jerry can).

 

Regardless, there's no point in "dropping" the explosives since you can just use them all and they will be removed from your weapon wheel.

Thank god that you do not lose them when you drop them, doing Prison Break would cost me money if it did, this is not just a PC thing you do not lose dropped weapons on any platform.

If you want to remove it from your weapon wheel to have less clutter, the only way is to buy a gun safe in your office or anywhere else you can buy one and store the weapons you do not use.

That's another lapse of Rockstar's programming, in my honest opinion. They should simply do a check to see whether a weapon has been purchased or not (which I'm sure they do - it's stat based) and if a purchased weapon gets dropped, the cost of it in Ammunation should be nulled so it's "Free". 

 

Also Gun Lockers only work for Freeroam - go into missions or heists (etc) and you'll have all your weapons again - yet another flop.

Yeah it does "work". I don't want it to work!

(some of these post are from 2017,but yours looks to be only a year old)

I just lost apparently permanently my good guns. At least $1,400,000 of good guns. See my post in the Help section "what's going on here????"
