Hello, and welcome to this thread where I plan on listing things to consider if you want to win a race.

I don't know much about it, but with your help we can find out all there is to know about racing in GTA Online.

I thought this thread might be a good go to thread for racing tips and brainstorming around how this games racing works.

I will make a section of things we want to know, things we think we know, and things we know we know.

To make this thread somewhat readable I will edit this opening post, and I will set some rules for you to follow.

RULES:

- Write a clear and easy to understand heading for your reply

so that it is possible to easily filter random posts from new tricks, questions etc.

Things we know

- Turbo start.

To get a turbo start, you have to be presise with the acceleration (R2, RT). Don't rev your engine while the countdown is active, just let it idle, and when it finally says go, wait a couple of milliseconds before you floor it. Might take a few tries before you get it, but when you do, you'll be able to do it it probably 90% of the races.

Tuning.

- Free roam stats on cars are not max cap at 5/5 bars. [Verified]

The stats of your vehicle is not the same in free roam as it is in races. One example is the Akuma MC. If you enter a Los Santos Customs in free roam, it already has a full bar on acceleration, yet in a race, the stock Akuma, only has 2/5 of the acceleration, while being 4/5 when fully tuned.

- Tuning makes your custom vehicle faster in races.

Things we want to know

- Is it possible to max racing stats?

- Are the racing stats bars the capped at 5/5?

- Does leaning forward/back on a motorcycle have any effect on the top speed/acceleration?

- Does slipstream work even if you are so far behind that you don't see the white lines?

- Does slipstream work even if you are driving so slow that the white lines don't show?

- Does slipstream slow down the vehicle in front? (I know this sounds unrealistic, but you never know)

- Can you get a better lap time with other people and slipstream, than with a 1-player race?

- How does the Catchup work? (All from what cars are slowed, to do you get a speed boost and will it effect the world record in a positive/negative way?)

- How many seconds do you lose if you hold Triangle/Y?

- Is the races won needed for mod upgrade bugged at the moment?

- How to best get into a race with max amount of people.

- What decides where you are placed in the race line-up?

- What place do you benefit the most from beeing placed at?

- Should you be in 2nd before the last corner to use the slipstream to get in 1st?

- What should you do to best overtake someone?

- What should you do to best keep someone from overtaking you?

- Which cars have the best stats stock in each category? (What car is the best will be a bad question as it simply comes down to your driving style and what you like to drive)

- Which cars have the best stats fully tuned in each category?

- What cars are the cheapest/most expensive to tune?
