The magic of the Pause Menu Music

I'm a huge fan of ambient/chillwave music, and the first time i heard this i was like "just WOW". It reminds me of a weird blend, mixing Kavinsky's Odd Look, Max Payne 3's Panama Theme, and believe it or not (to me at least) Terminator 2's original OST.

Without a doubt, probably one of my 2-3 favourite ambient tracks ever.

Yeah, it really is amazing, even better than the TBOGT pause music. Rockstar really did a good job with the score to this game. Too bad the radio stations are pretty terrible.

Very cool. Very Miami Vice, its obvious I loved GTA Vice City, the music and sounds in that game were a huge blast, perfect. GTA5 OST and ST is a evolution from that concept and it works very very well. Jan Hammer, Tangerine Dream and Hans Zimmer soul is there. I know thats impossible but GTA5 OST should be nominated to the Oscars. Its that good.

I agree, the pause music is wonderful and I love the track that plays when you first install the game and whenever you start up the game.

this gotta be the best between all soundtracks in the game! :^:

It's good, main theme too. But overall I liked IV's much more, for me it's the best theme ever! Also Max Payne's 3 was genial.

I'm so glad the OP threw in Terminator. I thought I was the only one that caught a hint of a Terminator 1 feel when listening to it. I agree with whoever said the GTA4 them was better though. They did a much better job with 4's overall soundtrack in that game I think. If you'll remember however, for those of you metal fans, they didn't have true metal until after The Lost and The Damned came out, just the punk music. Therefore it stands to reason the soundtrack will likely improve after the first big DLC is inevitably released.

*Crosses fingers for metal music in general, some Young Jeezy/Lil Wayne, and for god's sake STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON by NWA!* :)

Pause menu music usually sounds god-awful, but GTA V's is an exception.

Terminator feeling is certainly there. GTA 4's main theme was better, but V has way better original score. I expect a metal station in the upcoming DLC. (or maybe a Kavinsky collaboration).

Just wish they had fewer radio stations with more music on them. Also, where is the PROPER EDM channel?! Soulwax is crap! I loved the trance radio station from GTA IV. But IMO, nothing beats the music from Vice City, damn... that was almost a 100% perfect choice of tracks, plus the chat radios where awesome. In GTA V, they're just dull.

I think they did a great job with both V and IV's pause music. It's so small, but adds to the experience really well. V's has a real nice 80s type of feel to it. Even though the game is set in modern day, I think it fits perfectly.

On a side note, does anyone else have music that they have associated with memories of playing a GTA game? I remember when San Andreas came out. I was a junior in college and bought it over Christmas break. It was around the same time that Toy Soldiers by Eminem was released. Every time I hear that song I have fond memories of playing San Andreas in my bedroom.

FlyLo is pretty dope, has really nice trip hop beats.

Trip-Hop isn't EDM though, but yeah.

If you think GTA V pause menu is chill, listen to the pause music while playing GTA IV "The Ballad of Gay Tony". I can smoke a blunt and fall asleep to that music!

Yeah, V had alot of incredible ambient music in it's score, with the pause menu being a particularly favourite of mine too.

But it's going to take something really special to top Max Payne 3's score imo.

I think Manhunt has the best ambient score of any Rockstar game. It sounds like a trashy 70s/80s horror movie..

I like the underwater submarine music. Very fitting with the actual activity. Shame its boring down there though lol

Too superficial for my ambient taste but all right, concidering it´s menu music.

I don´t remember Deus Ex Human Revolution anymore, but I think it has quite similar tones.

i agree, the pause menu music is giving me a really satisfaction kind of feeling. Love it.

Also in GTA IV, my favourite radio station was 'The Journey'. It has all this weird, but relaxing music, which made me feel so good while driving a car all over the night city, while it was raining.

The feelings i had was unexplaineable, those memories... GTAV haves like only one or two relaxing tracks.

Am i the only freak who loved 'The Journey' station, that the host was this relaxing female robotic voice?

There was no trance station in GTA 4.

It was OK, but i really wanted to see a remake of MSX FM in GTA IV. Probably the most unique radio station in GTA history.

This. f*cking This. I loved MSX so much from GTA III that I went and ripped the radio station MP3 and put it on my MP3 player. It's f*cking awesome. Shame that there wasn't anything similar to it in GTA V. But guess what? I can listen to it while I'm PLAYING GTA V!

FlyLo FM has remnants of MSX in it (all those IDM beats), but of course nothing beats pure Drum n' Bass.

I also did the same with MSX btw :)

Ok guys, this is not Tangerine Dream, obviously it's a remix of Max Payne 3's Panama Theme. That why its omitted from the OST tracklist:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtT0K7hHL-I

It IS Tangerine Dream, pause menu music is arranged Greyhound - removed ingame score. And it isn't remix of Panama_Final.
