How do I switch car places in my garage?

I want to switch places between Infernus and Cheetah so the garage looks better. My garage is full, 10 cars, and just want to park Cheetah on the Infernus place, and Infernus on the Cheetah place. How do I switch them? I tried destroying both and bringing them back in, but doesn't work.

Let me start off by saying that this WILL wipe the mods off the cars you move around, forcing you to buy them again. So yeah, you're informed. This is for the people who have some crazy burning NEED to have their cars in the right spots, no matter the cost.

So like everyone else, my garage looked like crap with bigger vehicles up front blocking my better vehicles in the back. When looking for a way to rearrange the garage, I didn't see any official way to do it. So I played around a bit to see if I could force it to happen and I managed to stumble across how to do it. Sorry if this has been posted already.

THIS way requires at least 1 empty slot that you can use as a holding spot as you play a type of shell game with your cars.

I did this with a 10 car garage, but I'll make an example with a 4 car garage at the bottom.

Start by making sure you have and Elegy RH8 somewhere in your garage, preferably unmodified, that you can not lose much sleep over if it gets deleted. Your garage also needs to be full, so the 'car swap' mechanic in game can be used to delete the placeholder cars.

Get in your current awesome modded car and drive out of your garage. Once outside, order another Elegy RH8 and have it replace the garage spot for current awesome car (that you're sitting in) that's still on the list of cars in your garage. Now immediately drive back into your garage and the game will prompt you to replace another car with the current awesome car that no longer has a spot. Pick one of your Elegy spots to put it in. Now move a new car to your old awesome car's spot... rinse/repeat.

Now go rebuy all the mods you want.

:)

In case that was complicated, here's the an example of moving cars with a 4 car garage. Imagine that you have 3 cars (car1, car2, and car3) and the Elegy will just be 'Elegy'. You want to get car1 into spot 1, car 2 into spot 2, etc, but currently your garage has things laid out like:

  • spot 1: car2
  • spot 2: car3
  • spot 3: Elegy
  • spot 4: car1

Start by getting in car 3. Drive out of your garage, and order another Elegy and have it replace the car3 reservation in spot 2. Now when you drive back in, the list will show 'car2, Elegy, Elegy, car 1'. Replace the Elegy in slot 3, and car3 is now in the proper slot.

Current:

  • spot 1: car2
  • spot 2: Elegy
  • spot 3: car3 (yay)
  • spot 4: car1

Now get in car2 and drive out. Order an Elegy for spot 1. Drive back in and replace the Elegy in spot 2. Now the order is:

  • spot 1: Elegy
  • spot 2: car2 (yay)
  • spot 3: car3 (yay)
  • spot 4: car1

Now, obviously, get in car1 and drive out. You'll still need to order and Elegy for the last car swap, because you need it to no longer have a reserved spot in the garage. So order another Elegy for spot 4, and drive in and replace spot 1. Now all our hypothetical cars are in their correct hypothetical spots. OCD wants me to put the list again, so we end up with:

  • spot 1: car1 (yay)
  • spot 2: car2 (yay)
  • spot 3: car3 (yay)
  • spot 4: Elegy (pfft whatever)

If your garage is totally full, I imagine (but haven't personally tested) that you can take one of your cars out initially and give it to a friend to hold while you use that car's spot as an Elegy placeholder. I would personally make sure a person was in the car while holding it to protect it from despawn. Once you're done swapping everything else around, you should theoretically have an Elegy left and if your friend gives you your car back, it would replace it and your full garage would now still be full and looking slick.

WARNING If you order an Elegy and replace a car while the car is in a spot inside the garage, even if you're staring at it, it will be deleted instantly. ONLY replace cars that you're sitting in.

Hope this helped.
