Police AI GTA V - Is the gameworld Instanced now when u hit 1 star or

I know there are threads about Police being too hard - this is not those... the more I play the game it seems the more the police is instanced, it's almost as if the police were hard for R* to code to work for SP AND MP.

It seems like when you do a mission and the game gets certain aspects scripted, that when you get a police star that the game world changes into a "police instance"

Reasons for the speculation are below.

The police AI seems broken - that's why tunnels and car parks are so easy to evade stars, the police don't follow you like before - they stay in the cars until the last minute - and don't check interiors or buildings that are particularly hard to negotiate - in previous GTA's police would scale bushes, take npc vehicles etc, police in V are never a few steps from their cars,

Police are almost know where to be seen in LS, except for minor occasions where there is a sole police car - that I have seen only has 1 driver, very rare,

Police do not patrol like previous games on foot or in car - they are only ever mainly seen "in pursuit" - if you follow the car after it engages with the criminal - it drives around then very shortly after - engages another pursuit again, like an ai instance to simulate police in action.

The Police show up from everywhere but DE spawn straight away after a crime.

The police I have seen in LS with no stars are always spawned in the same place - ie police woman in countryside, police outside police station. never any police on foot.

I've seen cops taking vehicles. I've seen cruisers driving in the streets, just patrolling. And I've also seen 2 cops walking together through the city a few times.... Just saying.

I've had 3 squad cars turn up and and the policemen leave their cars in the road to search the area on foot.

They even searched the alleyways with torches.

I parked outside the main police station along side the other police cars while I went in to get my

free body armour, while I was in there something kicked off outside and a copper stole my

default vehicle which I thought was a bit cheeky.

No torches, but roughly the same. Had 2 stars, cops lost sight of me, parked in an alley, got out and I hid behind a dumpster.

They came through the alley and found me.

i don't see them on patrol either. occasionally you hear them (most often) and see them chasing somebody. but i've never seen them just driving around.

Their presence in V is far from what it was in IV and SA. Granted they are around, there used to be one on every other block, or at least it felt that way, in SA & V.

Thanks for the replies - Have you ever had any regular cops not noose - follow u in car parks or get out of spawn far from the cars -

It seems when I game - "could be how I play the game" that the police on foot never follow me far from the main roads or roads in general unless its a rubber band spawn, where they spawn out of thin air.

As to good police finds - I have seen this once which I thought was really cool - The police had a car parked on the sidewalk and they were outside the parked car questioning a druggie / npc.....

cant remember the area but was in South los santos = was this a spawn specific to this area or do they do that across the map ?> ?>

The cops will search for you, I've noticed that and appreciate the fun it adds.

What I do find is missing is the random cops driving the streets, the ones that you'd accidently hit driving from point A to point B, then they start chasing you. And the ones on the side of the highway should stop you for speeding.

Ive heard this is online but would like it in SP, that cops will pursue you if they see you in a stolen car.

Also I'd like the ability to surrender and for cops to try and arrest for longer.

I did have a weird experience last night where I watched the cops taking on some ballers and then after the fight 2 cops started harassing me, then they pulled out Their stunguns and repeatedly stunned me. They wouldn't let me get up, I finally ran away, but I was laughing so hard.

I've definitely seen patrols. Not common, but it does happen. While I do agree that the lack of Police presence is somewhat strange, I also think there were far too many Police cars on patrol in GTA IV; they were as common as taxis. Maybe somewhere in the middle would be the way to go.

Also, I've seen them questioning prostitutes and even chasing an NPC for curb-crawling.

But I have noticed their seeming weakness where the train tracks are concerned. Furthermore, in missions I think the majority of the time they are "script-only", as I've had numerous occasions where I've had 4 stars and they've disappeared to 1 almost immediately after a certain point in the mission is triggered. Example- Escaping Fort Zancudo with the Chinook, the buzzard doesn't even follow you and the stars disappear. Also "The Blitz Play", where the 4 disappear almost as soon as you start to make your getaway.

the cops hav tasers and night sticks but dont use them

I have only been arrested once but it happened on 4 stars

The police obviously had alot done to them to accomadate MP but they feel scripted when they are active

The police AI do not seem scripted, IMHO. Aggressive yes, but the behavior during a chase, in particular a foot chase, is much improved and more fluid and spontaneous in my experience.

Just last night I was running from a 4-star situation (maybe 5...) and hid behind a dumpster behind a building, with a sh*tload of cops right behind me and moving fast. I suppressed my desire to pop out and start blasting and kept still, because there were simply too many, I would have died.

The first cop on point walked right up to the dumpster with a dozen buddies behind him; he stopped, looked around (literally a few feet from my posit), and then kept going after a few very long seconds. At the same time, a group of cops were behind me, on the other side of the wall that was behind my position, and they did the same thing. They looked over the wall, but I was just low enough, and just outside their LOS, to evade

Man, my heart was pumping and I thought for sure I was dead. But no, they never found my position. I thought that was cool anecdote to the improved cop AI behavior and improved line-of-sign (LOS).

Good day,

i mean instanced not scripted as that the way the polic spawn and de spawn is like the game puts itself into a differnt mode,,, maybe thats why we dont see police cars and police on the street as the police section needs to be ran in a seperate instance to the majority of the open world aspect of the game - ie when ithe streets and cops act differently in certain missions and the game world changes

it feels off unlike past games when it felt more fuid

as soon as ur stars go the police despawn instantly .. aside from maybe one car that happens to be around ... it seems more "canned" this time around although the police cone of vision and searching for u is a welcom addition

ahhh...yes, I understand. Now that you mention it, the cops do sometimes despawn instantly...but leave the cars behind (usually). Although, in my example above, I watched the cops walk off and a few (that I could see from my location) got into their cars and drove off.

I'm sure all these minor things will be smoothed over with various patches and DLCs.

Good day,

Its a beautiful mechanic that R* put into the game...when you escape the police its not simply cuz they can't find you but because that have followed the wrong trail. Many time, hiding just out of view behind a garbage bin, I've seen the police get back in their car and start chasing some random NPC in the area. I've actually followed then, and basically the cops shoot the NPC down the calmly return to their cars. But the don't just despawn, you may not be there to see what goes on afterwards especially since your happy to have gotten away.

I too have seen cops shooting NPC's who I'm assuming they thought were me. Which is fantastic if true (albeit would be better if they arrested them instead). To touch upon the points above though, there's a spot in strawberry's bus station which is "instanced" to spawn a Police patrol late at night. Sometimes it spawns the Unmarked Cruisers. If you follow them however, they will ALWAYS stick the sirens on at a particular point even if they aren't chasing anybody. Which kind of sucks.

EDIT: Come to think of it there's also an intersection in the same sort of area which will ALWAYS spawn the rare Police Buffalo cruiser on a patrol. Maybe there are other spots like this that we haven't found yet, and that all patrols are "instanced"?
