Vehicles change when saved?

I found a red convertible Vapid Peyote. Upon entering it into my garage to save it the car turned tan with a hardtop. I wanted a convertible so I drove to los santos customs to make it a convertible. Well I didn't see an option. Is there something else I have to modify on it first to be able to make it a convertible?

 

And no, pressing the d pad right at a stop does not make the top go down or anything like that. This car is a hardtop and I can't seem any more to spawn at the moment. Is this just another glitch? I know upgraded cars you find and take to your garage get turned into a non upgraded version but this is ridiculous. Any thoughts, ideas?

I think they automatically change color when you save a stolen car so the police won't notice it.

The color isn't the problem though. I can change that. This thing changed from a convertible model to a hardtop model and I don't see an option to change it in los santos customs.

I've noticed that too. Happened to me several times.

Especially when saving the Merryweather Mesa which turned into black without hard top. I had to refind a Mesa without hard top in order to save it with hard top cause of this glitch.

I haven't found a way to avoid that. I haven't tried but I think, maybe, if you insure it before saving it into your garage, maybe it should stay how it is. I don't know tho.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with your garage being full. I had replaced a vehicle with this one and that is when I noticed the change. I am going to have to pay attention now and see if replacing a car in the garage or having an open space makes a difference.

Well, I stole a car, tuned it, put it into my garage and then it had a different color and the upgrades were gone, yeey. Anyway, I think maybe you can drive around with the hardtop one and find a convertible? dunno, just an idea.

I replaced one in my garage.

 

(My garage is full so I can choose the placement of the cars I put in, by replacing)

I have to do some experimenting but I am pretty sure this is only happening when the garage is full and you have to replace a car. Gotta check it out though. If anybody else has tested this out let me know.

I believe this is true

same thing happened to my mesa, it was the grey merryweather mesa but after replacing it to the garage it became the military brown

also happened to my albany buccaneer, found it red colored but after replacing it to the garage it became yellow

Well I have tried this quite a few times and I am only having vehicles change on me when I try to enter it when my garage is full. If you make sure you have an empty space available and you are not replacing an existing car in your garage you shouldn't have any problems.
