GTA Online: The reason GTA V will probably make it to next gen

Recommended Posts

I've had a think about it, and on current generation consoles can GTA Online really last the way Rockstar expects it to? With new GTA releases now being 3-5 years difference, releasing a new GTA to expand online early for PS4 and XBox One seems highly unlikely.

Rockstar and Take Two are both smart companies, and aren't too oblivious to the fact that within two years about 80% of people will have the PS4 or XBox One, and will probably lose interest in the current generation consoles online mode, which means death for GTA Online until a new release in the series. The only plausable soluation will be to release GTA V as a next gen release sometime in mid to late 2014 (or with the PC release).

This, on top of the fact that code on the game disks has solid evidence of at least a PS4 release, makes me 99% sure V will be released again later on.

This is just my view point anyway.

I think PS4 and Xbox One will have about 20% penetration in 2 years, with half of those being people who were suckered into buying them as set-top boxes for consumption of passive media content. Look how slow the ramp-up was for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Content sells consoles. The console makers may be begging Rockstar to port GTAO to the next gen, just to get a bit of momentum on next gen console sales.
