Does anyone actually race properly?!

Maybe it's cool that GTA is doing it 'differently' by having non-clean races pretty much as a standard, but Burnout and Full Auto both did it way better and were actually fun to wreck other players in.

My most fun in this game with races has been on bicycles, motorcycles, and with air and water races. Which are all pretty much clean races as it's difficult to wreck anyone on those.

When I play burnout I totally expect (and enjoy) the slamming and chaos, that's what makes the game what it is. Don't know why I feel differently when playing GTA and expect a clean by the books race but I do

even without people purposely making you crash it still happens a lot with people swerving across the road to avoid traffic etc, races are quite random due to this but a lot of fun,if i wanted proper racing id play gran turismo,as long as i finish the race i dont really care, prefer catch up on & otherwise your race is over if you crash through no fault of your own at the start & becomes pointless.

To answer OP's question that does anyone race properly...

... I do. As long as someone doesn't ram/crash into me. Then that person who did that is pretty much dead.

Here, have a cool story... bros.

I was in the "Downtown" race with 5 laps. The cars were Super Cars. This one dude had an Adder, and I had an Entity. The fellow player decided that it was fun to make me slide into a wall at quite fast speed in the 1st lap, totaling my car. Well, I respawned (if someone doesn't know, it fixes your car too). I spent the next 3-4 laps going after him (the other people were pretty much good sport).

I manage to get next to him right before the Stunt jump and then I ram into him. The result was that he ended up being the last or second the last. After that, he sent me a message saying "F*CKING BASTERD!". Heh, apparently he was mad... but it was not my fault he messed with the wrong guy.

Rate the story.

10/10, would read again?

Or 0/10, tl;dr?

Just wish the check points were wider so you could take corners tighter or wider depending on the mob

I would love to play the gamemodes. But searching servers and then even finding players is a pain in the ass. IVs matchmaking was better for that!

Im racing with some friends and its quite fun, but the slipstream is kinda ruining it for me. It does exist in real life but not that extreme, it seems like a Speedhack in V.

same here, ive selected so many races & missions on the map & via quick job & have never been able to join one,it just makes me the host.

11/10, cool story bro.

I usually just play lineman if I get taken out on purpose, I drive around the track in reverse and block the person who knocked me out, forcing him/her to get second-to-last.

f*ck it

it's gta

drive defensively and it's not a big deal. 9/10 the guy trying to ram you crashes if you do it right

besides most of them can't drive for sh*t so wait for a corner and they'll crash

and if some1 can ram me of the road and drive well he deserves to win.

should have rammed him of the road or something

there's Always some element of randomness, but it's gta what do you expect.

I find myself ending in the top of the list more than on the bottom

Sine this Criminal Records 7k XP glitch was found, Almost every race I am in is a proper race. With catch up off and all.

Sadly that is it. I have tried to host and join races but it seems no one gives a sh*t.

I wonder if the idiots who treat Free Roam like Deathmatch are the same that treat Standard Races like GTA Races. If only they understood what the different modes mean.

I'm generally a clean racer, but mainly because slipstreaming is so easy/overpowered that I'd only be slowing myself down by trying to ram other vehicles.

Seriously, it's like no one can drive at all in races. 99% of the time it's just a bunch of idiots that purposely slow down to get behind you, split stream, and then slam you off the road so they can unfairly win...

It's called a race...

Not swerve all over the road into other people who can actually drive and win the race without hitting others, just so they can win...

Plus, whenever they hit you off the road, 50% of the time your likely going to hear them say something stupid like owned or swag...

I race straight. I don't shove people, but I do nudge. But none of that PIT maneuver stuff, though I'm a pro at that ^_^

I don't even slip stream, I just race straight. I don't however, race anymore. Because no one else races straight.

I will race cleanly until people start ramming me. Then sh*t gets real. Maybe they should integrate a "clean race" version where you get penalized if you ram others.

I don't see how that'd work well in the game. After all, you lose the time anyway even if the dude who rammed you got penalized.

I say that have a setting to remove collisions in normal Races. That option should not exist in GTA Races though.

I pride myself on clean racing. I'll throw myself from first to last to assfvck a dirty racer though.

And for the love of all good things, DON'T bring back the scrapes only option!!

Slipstreaming works In real life. A slingshot maneuver.

I agree that people drive like idiots. But stop blaming legitimate tactics.

The problem I think is that everyone who wants GTA racing to be clean also wants all racing to be clean, period. That's all well and good for you, but is that supposed to mean there will never be room for a racing game that does it differently?

When if ever would racing dirty be appropriate but in a Grand Theft Auto race where all the participants are criminals? There is literally no more appropriate situation imaginable in which it would be proper for everyone to race dirty (at least to some extent greater than zero, insofar as they don't sabotage themselves).

For criminals, playing dirty is part of the job description, and anyone coming to this game and expecting it to be clean is a dumbass. Either pull the stick out of your ass and have fun street racing like a criminal in GTA, or go play Forza and race like a pro racer as clean as can be.

Just stop pretending this game was ever supposed to be a clean game, yes they made concessions (like passive mode and bad sport) towards making a cleaner environment, but I've blown up well over a dozen personal vehicles without getting a dunce cap yet, so clearly the system was designed to allow for a "dirtier" environment while simultaneously stopping it from being too dirty.

The fact is you don't have to like it and that GTA racing simply isn't for everyone. Countless racing games fill the niche of clean racing, and anyone thinking GTA is supposed to be one of those games is in dire need of having their head examined.

Yea Because There Is Sooooooo Only One Racing Mode. :l

I Have Never Seen REAL Street Racers Ram Each Other Technically They Are Criminals.

The problem with more racing modes is it divides the player base further, in a pure racing game that may work but in GTA where racing is a mini game essentially, you'd never find any matches at all (not that it's all that easy as it is).

And you say "I've never seen street racers ram each other implies you've seen real street racers, I'm gonna call bullsh*t on that right now, and as for me I know there's not a street race on TV or in movies that I've ever seen which didn't depict the racers ramming each other to some extent, most usually trying to run their opponents off the road or into obstacles to make them crash. It's literally just about every movie with street racing ever made, so my argument is not the one that is invalid.

Next time try responding with something you didn't pull out of your ass if you want me to dignify your words with a response.

I play in free-aim and I would say probably half the people are serious racers who won't crash you. Then the other half are d-bags but still pretty good odds. Are you playing in free-aim or auto-aim OP?

Ya i know what you mean OP but this is GTA. f*cking with people and taking advantage of opportunities is part of the game even in racing. If your good enough you will avoid them and win anyway. Nothing funnier than seeing a guy trying to knock you off and end up crashing himself.

Except everyone plays with catch-up on. So even if you are good enough, more than likely they will be able to get you.

I was racing a smart clean race and was coming up on the leader and was going to slip stream past him to win the race. Just as I was making my move he moved into my front left quarter to block (which would have been an illegal move irl) and we hit in a way that should have ended with me pit maneuvering (again I was just trying to pass, no contact) but for some reason it just spun me out. Probably would have accepted it until the douche got on chat trying to brag how I "tried to spin him out and he still won." I swear this game attracts the worst kind of people.

end rant

I actually had 11/2 w/l ratio on races, achieved purely by clean racing before my character was lost into Cloud Server Oblivion. The little kids trying to ram others off the road is not a new thing for me, I learned that the same method I used In Forza Horizon applies here as well.

When the race starts I hang around behind the pack up until the first hairpin/tight corner, apply the correct driving line and drive straight past them when they are slamming each other. Then its just a matter of throttle control and clean lines and the kids can't touch you anymore because they think that it's just a matter of driving the Adder full throttle into every corner.

Only reason I had two losses was that the whole lobby turned against me after I beat them a few times a row and they turned the next round into all out destruction derby. As I refused to sink on their level, I lost.

I love racing dirty.

pretty sure i bought GTA and not Carebear racing 2013.

Yep, I bet you love being shoved off the road and getting stuck just when you're about to win.

I bet you LOVE it.

I'd prefer to do races with no contact so it's all down to driving, but most of the time opponents will try and ram you off the road the minute the race starts.

Some f*cking dickhead cut me off in first place because he had no skill himself, he got lapped twice. First, he smashed me off the road. Before I could catch up, he smashed me again, then parked in front of me so I couldn't move. First to DNF, all because of ONE dickbag in a pink Adder. All I wanted was to save for this new car, and Mr. Douche comes along and ruins everything.

His name was Bullsfan88, if you see him or know him, tell him he's a dick.

I used to get bent out of shape about this since I'm a big Gran Turismo fan and cars and racing in general but I still end up smashing into people pretty often accidentally and there would be no way the other people could know I didn't really mean it. Once people ram into me then it's fair game back, so if they did it on accident then I retaliate, again they might just think I'm an ass. So it's hard to say if people are always dicks or if you are reading into things too much. Unless they're straight up laughing at you and talking sh*t on the mic.

Still those people tend to lose in the end against a skilled racer and races with no catch up on can be a total bore. I used to turn catch up off for "true races" but they just end up being a blowout, whether I'm winning or losing.

I don't mind the dirty tactics on GTAO racing, im used to it. Hell everyone but the top 3 would turn backwards on GTA4 and try to wreck you, or block off the track to prevent you from winning, nothing new.
