I've seen this question asked so many times on the forums but I've never seen a detailed answer! Just that it can be done.

 

From what I've picked out, I think if you set your game options to free-aim and join an online server it will automatically assign you to a free-aim session. However, I don't know how that works with linking up with your friends and crew (if they are auto-aim) or how busy those servers are. I'm sure the info's been posted a million times but I've yet to see it!

Pretty sure you'd die even if it was free aim if you blatantly stand out in the open when a person is covering.

I agree auto aim is kinda lame and makes the game easy but personally, I don't think the design is even good enough to use the free aim. It makes it too hard because you can barely see the crosshair as it is. I'm not sure why they made the crosshair transparent.

Yeah, it you set your settings to free aim in single player and then join Online, it will put you on a free aim server. Anytime that you attempt to join friends and crew who are on a different setting, there should be a warning screen that pops up to let you know that your settings will be changed if you continue.

Yeah I hate to tell you this Solid, but kids can use free-aim too. That's why I use auto-aim. To hide behind a wall, wait for them to run out into the open, then fire before popping back into cover. :D

It gets frustrating. I have walked down a hallway, AK at the ready aimed at the spot where I know someone is hiding. I see him flip around for a milisecond, put a burst in me and I die after squeezing off two shots.

 

Auto aim is FANTASTIC when you are doing the shooting

HORRIBLE when you are getting shot.

 

An aim assist would be 500 times better, a sticky cursor or something to help, not some robocop terminator. Turns the game into a wack-a-mole game. Pop out, fire duck. pop out fire duck. rinse and repeat.

I agree with this. An aim assist would be the best. The trick is to learn how to own the auto-aim. I've just gotten really good and rarely have more deaths than kills.

Also, you can change the aim cursor to a big chunky crosshair in the menu options if you prefer, Peak hunter, but I found that the crosshair gets in the way instead! :rol:

I just wish there were more people using Free Aim.

 

Like many have suggested, they really should have use an assisted aiming. Being able to lock on and perfectly track someone driving past you at 200 mph is retarded.

Hi mate. Also in settings you can change the cross hair too. Forgotten what it's called but options there. Then you get more well known cross hair types for all the diff weapons. Give it a go :)

I do prefer free aim. I keep auto aim on though because im always getting caught off guard in free roam. Snapping to the target is great. Any other game mode is free aim though

Set free aim for your single player and join the elite ! :p

Also set your cross hair to "complex" instead of "simple".

Funny part seeing people using aut aim, when they're on cover you see them sometime poping out and back several times trying to get someone auto locked. What a skill bro. Best shooter ever lol.

Problem for me, I can't play auto aim (or assist), cause the way I play is that I aim manually before shooting anyway, so even if I'm in auto aim, it doesn't lock on, it stays free aiming and I'm in a huge disadvantage then.

Why? If it separates everyone like it does, why does it matter? If someone wants to us auto-aim, let them use it and play with others using the same setting. No use into forcing either side into integrating or being forced to use only one option.

 

I don't use auto aim, but I don't understand why you'd want to force someone to not use it if they like it...

because free aim servers are dead... becuase all the 12 yr olds(that i wnt to kill) are on aim assist

Personally, I wish they would make the free aim/auto-aim setting ONLY work on NPC's. It should be free-aim (or aim assist) against other players, this way everyone has the same settings and can join matches/jobs with anyone else, would probably help with connections as well.

Go play free aim on a keyboard mouse, this is gta notCOD, the gun play is just one part of the game. And if you too sorry to read directions on how to switch between aim modes then..... [email protected]

If they won't get rid of the auto aim, they should nerf the distance it can lock on to a few feet. Games mollycoddle players too much these days.
