The Colombian Cartel without a doubt IMO.

- Income: They were a Cartel, thus they entirely controlled the market for the new (maybe designer) drug SPANK. This gave them a bottomless source of income (

according to Asuka Kasen in the 'Espresso 2 Go' cutscene

). That makes them perhaps the wealthiest gang in 3D GTA history.

- Assets: They were very smart in investing this massive income - not wasting it on useless luxuries like your stereotypical gangsters. They controlled the best assets of any criminal organisation in 3D GTA game. These includes a freight ship, the massive Pan-Lantic contruction company, which was involved in massive construction projects in LC (including the Porter Tunnel and the massive construction sites in Staunton Island), and other freight in and around Francis International Airport.

- Connections: They had connections with the CIA, as evidenced by the mission

'Marked Man' for Ray. When someone starts messing with the Colombian Cartel, and/or something gets too hot for them to handle, the international intelligence apparatus of the world's only super-powerjumps in to help them out, as they have a vested interest in the SPANK market

. How many other gangs can boast that level of connections?

- Direct Threat: As a direct threat, the Colombian Cartel is by far the biggest threat to players in 3D GTAs after the Leone Family Mafia,

after 'Sayonara Salvatore'

. After the end of the game, their members start roaming the streets armed with 'Uzis' (Micro-Uzi IRL) and 'AK47s' (AKM/AK74 IRL).

They even have heavily armed death squads dotted around Shoreside Vale in

the mission 'Bait'

.

In the mission 'SAM'

, some cartel members are armed with Rocket Launchers, and

in the final mission, 'The Exchange'

, one or more of their members have Flame-Throwers!

Overall, I think they are by far the best armed gang in 3D GTA history, as well as the best tactically trained (with the creation and deployment of death squads).

- Cars: Car types and [erformance strong points are rather an acquired taste, so I won't comment on how awesome, big and intimidating the Cartel Cruisers they drive are. However, what I will put up as a point is their intelligent use of civilian cars as concealment, rather than relying on their unique gang cars. To my knowledge, the only other gang in GTA 3 to do that is the

Forellis in 'Dead Skunk In The Trunk

. The cars they use to conceal themselves and their activities are the Sentinel and Pan-Lantic van. Not seeing the gang coming from a mile away must be a major strategic advantage. In GTA IV, most gangs start driving more subtly moded or normal cars.

She started out as a small time bank robber, and in a few months after teaming up with Miguel in the bank robbery I doubt she could have managed to attain leadership. Plus the fact she's cousins with Ceasar from SA means she's got at least half Mexican heritage, and I was of the assumption that you could only head a gang like this if you were full Colombian.

QFT, very true mate.

I personally really can't see Catalina as anything more than a high-ranking member - she way just a bank-robber at the beginning of the game, and from her nature in SA, I can't see her hold any position of power. Though she was able to exploit the Cartel's assets to send death squads and suicide bombers (

in the mission 'Kingdom Come'

) after Claude.

IMO, hand-held console games really shouldn't be taken as canon. With my experiece with LCS and VCS, their storyline was rather rushed, and the cities are too different for the setting only a few years before other games.

With Miguel,

Asuka's treatment of him in the building, with all the torturing for information - really doesn't seem to be appropriate or expected for a gang leader. A gang leader would have been executed on the spot, or asked why he personally ordered the hit, not if he knows who ordered it and why. That seems to suggest to me he was just a high-ranking member

.

Also, even if we were to assume one or both of their leaders did die, I can't really see a major decline in their power. With the incompetence, unpredictability and treachery of Catalina, and (from what little I know of GTA Advance) treachery of Miguel gone, things can only look up for them.

It's a hard question TBH. Harder than asking about the favorite character.

Not sure, because they're too many, but my favorite couple of them might be: (in order of timeline)

  1. The Mendez Cartel (VCS)
  2. Vance Crime Family (VCS)
  3. Vice City Bikers (VC & VCS)
  4. Vercetti Gang (VC)
  5. Families (SA)
  6. Ballas (SA)
  7. Los Santos Vagos (SA)
  8. Leone Crime Family (III, SA & LCS)
  9. The Colombian Cartel (III & LCS)
  10. Angels of Death MC (IV, TLaD & TBoGT)
  11. The Lost MC (IV, TLaD & TBoGT)

This is my top 5 list of most powerful gangs in GTA series:

5) Vance gang-they controlled the criminal underworld of VC in 1984,after taking over businesses from Big Mitch Baker's biker gang and Sharks, and wiping out Trailer Park mob, Cholos, White Stallionz and Mendez cartel, before disappearing by 1986

4) Leone mob-they became the most powerful mob in LC after Sonny Forelli got killed by Tommy in 1986,they spread to LV to open a casino, and by 2001 they wiped out Sindacco and Forelli mob before being weakened after Claude killed Sal Leone

3) TLMC-in TLAD they were a small gang with just 2 chapters that stood up to much larger AOD and even the mob,and despite being almost wiped out, they recovered and grew to become one of the most powerful biker gang in the country in just 5 years, and despite their SA chapter being weakened by Trevor, they are still around and have many other chapters all over the US

2) Vercetti gang-they control the criminal underworld of VC since 1986

1) GSF-they control the criminal underworld of LS and have connections throughout SA,not to mention CJ's connection with secret government agent Toreno

These things happen. One man can be tough, next day he can be hooked on meth and make their followers weak.

The Lost MC. Definitely well written and the sense of brotherhood was what made them more real. A lot of people say that the GSF was more realistic but I think that they took the whole gang banging drama a bit too far. Turf war and no side business apart from Missions and little errands feels too bland.

Johnny and Jim felt closer than real brothers. Then there's Jason, Terry, Clay and Angus who would spill their own blood for the greater good. One of my favourite moments in TLAD was Johnny taking over chapter presidency which coincided with Wanted Dead Or Alive coming over the radio just at the right time.

I still get goosebumps thinking about that. Just amazing.

The Lost MC, IMO.

A classic outlaw motorcycle club which is full off badass brothers who would pay their blood off in order to protect each other. It's a strong brotherhood which can never be judged depending on its size. Despite the fact that their blood rivals, the Angels of Death MC, is bigger and more powerful (and better looking 😛), yet they killed a lot of members in order to retake Billy's bike, and also killed a lieutenant of the MC for crashing the party of The Lost's Alderney chapter's president, and later blew their clubhouse up, leaving no one inside alive. Not to mention the members Johnny, Malc and DeSean killed to steal the cocaine. They also broke into the Alderney State's Correctional and took out an army of the ACPD/ASP's security and N.O.O.S.E. soldiers in order to kill the traitor former club president, Billy Grey.

They were treated poorly and uncommonly in GTA V.

EDIT: I forgot that I already posted here before, lol. Nonetheless, I explained why I consider The Lost MC to be one of the best gangs in the series through this post.
