Special Crates?

I'm wondering, how do you get a hold of these 'Special Crates'? I know they're not the crates dropped from Merryweather but that's pretty much all I know. Can anyone fill me in?

i'm guessing pretty much the same way you do with the merryweather one's

On coke missions they have a green exterior and look poorly constructed outta wood. Shoot them and they drop loot or drugs that add to total payout. Usually near gang members cars like they were going to be loaded into the trunk

I heard that these Special Crates are randomyly dropped during Freemode, am I mistaken?

There will be a message saying that a crate drop is coming in soon and on your map there will be a small green circle where it will spawn.

 

Ron might call you if its your first time receiving the message

 

In my experience they can give the following things

 

500-2000rp

$1000-$10000

A minigun

Rocket launcher

3-10 molotovs

last night on gta online i saw a message in gold type accouncing a special drop (i didn't bother with it since i couldn't find it on the map).

Yes, they drop randomly in free mode.

When you see the announcement you have to search the whole map for the green circle. Sometimes it is up north and sometimes way south or west...once the crate is dropped then it shows as a green box on your map. You only have a certain amount of time to get to the crate before it tells you someone else has gotten it.

The same thing happens to me with high priority vehicle exports. I can only see the notifications of other people killing each other and stealing it back and forth ad nauseum.

had 1 drop at the docks, was a lot of heavy armour/armed npc around.

but it contained a minigun rp and cash.
