Choppers and airplanes useless?

How useful are choppers and airplanes in GTAO?

 

Im thinking of buying a chopper now but:

 

1: Its gonna cost 1000$ everytime i want it,

2: its only gonna spawn near the airport (as far as i know)

3: calling merryweather costs 1000 aswell and they will pick you up on the spot.

4: At trevors airfield you WILL find airplanes/choppers 90% of the time, should you be up there and in need of air transport.

5: Calling lester and asking for a chopper, he will most often find airtransport closer than the airfield, and for allot less money.

 

 

So why..... why should we really buy these?

Maybe i'm easily amused but some of the most fun I've ever had in GTO is flying around as a lone chopper pilot and picking up people who get into trouble, generally following people around as air support without them asking for it, and et cetera. The cargo bob is great fun try picking up a car full of your friends and putting it up on top of the Maze Bank building.

for freeroam, its totally waste of money because you go to any airport and 99% the time there are buzzards and other kinds / planes as well....

It can spawn in many different locations. Even rooftop of hospital and other random places. Not planes tho.

 

Merrywether cant give you a helicopter that shoots guided missiles.

I heard once you get to higher levels the cargo bob and maverick stops spawining and you get Titans and something else but haven't confirmed yet. Im level 29 and I get a cargo bob or a maverick each time

It wont land if you stand on the spot you made the call, you gotta move away slightly so it can come down

If you need urgent transport, it will probably take me longer to drive to the airport to pick up my chopper, than it would to just drive there or get a lift from merryweather, so I still dont see much point to having one

Find a flat area, i find intersections to be perfect, make the call, go off to the side of the road, watch the chopper land, get in

Having your own Buzzard would be very helpful for missions. The missiles lock onto enemies so you could finish some missions(like mixed up with coke) without even leaving your Buzzrard.

 

The Merryweather chopper pilots can be kind of retarded.

 

I've tried to get a chopper from Lester during a mission and nothing showed up on the map. Not sure if that was just a glitch but even still you won't get a Buzzard from him as far as I know.

I did get the annihilator a couple of times from him, mixed up with coke I can finish in minutes without even eating a single bullet, no need for a chopper there

 

But sure, attack choppers and tanks will allways be usefull for missions and stuff, especially those who are actually really really hard.

But it still doesnt seem to justify buying one for transport purposes

If you stand right under the heli, its not gonna land and the merryweather pilot will just keep telling you to clear the LZ etc, thats if things aren't acting buggy/weird I guess eh? lol

Really not worth it, all the airfield/helipads spawn the best possible helicopter/plane for your lvl anyways, so by the time you can afford say a buzzard the helipads will already spawn them for you free of charge..

 

Its a really braindead system by R*, I have no f*cking idea why they would make buying these completly worthless, not to mention the negative impact freebie buzzards has on free roam.

 

The only thing that should spawn at these helipads and airports are mavericks and cropdusters, regardless of lvl, mabye then actually buying a air vehicle would be worth it.

Some land randomly being piloted and you have to snipe the pilot. Good luck with that since NPC's can tell when you have your gun aimed at them and fly off, even if you are almost as far away as you can be with a sniper.

Calling lester to find a chopper is allmost always faster and less expensive than calling your own chopper. And lesters choppers spawn somewhere nearby, your own chopper you need to go all the way down to the airport for, where there is nothing else.

 

Pilots dont to that when im aiming at them btw, they fly around normally until i fire.

The only time they panic if i havent fired is if im standing right infront of the cockpit wit my gun out (so wanted to say cock )

You then call pegasus and they make the chopper available at the airport, you can then go pick it up and it acts like your personal vehicle

Only one worth buying is the buzzard. That way you are guaranteed to get one whenever you want. Anything else is not worth it.

No idea I dont own any of those but boats spawn at the marina you buy in storymode.

I would say if the chopper you buy doesn't have weapons it's useless, just use merryweather. I'm sure merryweather came up as an idea later on in development and made the buying of a heli useless and R* didn't notice

This would not have been an issue at all if:

 

1:Choppers and planes did not spawn normally on the map.

2: When getting your chopper delivered, it would be delivered anywhere on the map, just like merryweather
