I waited for about half an hour before I got put through to Tiffany. I was calling because when I go to start online it is now taking me straight to create a character (though I already have one). My character does, however, show up on the Social Club website. After telling Tiffany about this issue, she told me a lot of "I'm not sure"s and "maybe"s with no definite answer.

 

I was wondering if anybody here could either shed some light on this situation or be incredibly blunt and tell me bad news.

they have a bulletin about it when the game is loading, do not create a new one, sometimes their cloud servers go down, try later or something, I forget the exact message.

I'm completely aware of that stuff. I've taken all of the precautions that R* has posted.

My guess is that your character is gone forever. The, "I'm not sure" and "Maybe" replies are just pacifiers so that the support members don't have to be blunt and say, "No, your character is gone forever so you mine as well keep trying".

right on, Just letting you know about it, i lost a couple before they started letting people know about this issue. yea if rockstar doesnt know then the 12 year olds on this forum sure as sh*t dont know whats going on, lol! Seems pretty random though, sometimes it works sometimes it dont, just keep trying later on.

when this happened to me i lost my character, and it nevre returned.

 

Went to "choose character"

my character stats showed correct so i click him to load

creation screen comes up so i immediately back out

after a while social club stats reset to 0

 

nevre returned :(

It looks like he's back now. Should I switch back to single player and quick save? Or would that not prevent anything?

Rockstar are in full-on "nothing to see here" mode, stalling until they determine characters are gone for sure, plus what the heck to toss as red meat to the rabidly angry masses when they finally break the news.

 

Make a new or wait, up to you of course, i never got any of my four characters back after waiting. Just move on says I.

Not sure if the problem is that you lost your character or that you were speaking to a woman for technical support...

Well the past 3 - 4 days getting online has been fairly smooth maybe 1 or 2 timed out issues other than that it been fine. After todays patch though i can not get Online at all. Not in a public game, invite only session or even solo session. If i do try to get into one of these rooms i am met with the mesaage 'Failed to host' after about 5 mins of staring at clouds. If your stats are still on the social club then you're character is not gone. Like the loading screen says if the servers are down then go to single player, don't spam retry don't make a new character. Just wait it out, it'll come back.

ive waited a couple of days for my character to come back after it just stays on the creation screen with my stats and money, how long am I supposed to wait?

Quick save is supposed to help, i've been doing it religiously, haven't lost my main dude.
