Between slipstreaming, T-boning and catchup, GTAO races is one of those few racers where your ability to drive is more or less irrelevant.

 

"Oh, you're behind the guy in first place? Here, have a speed boost for no reason so you can win despite the fact the guy in front is clearly better hence why they're ahead"

Ridiculous.

Oh and not to mention this makes the turbo start redundant since it just gives the other players the chance to slipstream you and knock you out of the way.

 

Another question: How come when a guy bashing into me from behind I go spinning and they're unaffected. I smash into them from behind and I go flying whilst they just keep going like nothing ever happened. So frustrating.

The crashing I like, the catch up is optional and slipstream could be toned down.

Seriously tell me about it. I find races don't reward you for skill, simply for those that can do the most damage. I mean, racing in this game is purely all luck.

Th e catch up causing crashes to be constant, but without it it's about skill, and it's quite fun to see a wipe out. Reminds me of burnout revenge.

Whatever man I can still lead a whole race and win with catch up on. Most of the time it just makes the races closer and more fun honestly.

I dont mind crashes because I have fun avoiding them. What I hate is being in the lead after a passing a 7 car wreck and somebody flying past me while I drive straight and fast. You cant avoid being slip streamed, the only thing you can do is cause the other car to crash but I hate doing that on purpose, which sucks because people do it to me all the f*cking time!

I actually dread being in first place because I just know whoever's behind me is going to use slipstream, spin me out, and consequently win while I'm powerless to do anything about it--probably right before the finish line, as happened today. I spent pretty much the entire race in first place then the guy behind me knocked into me close to the finish line and I ended up third. Terrific.

This is exactly what happened to me today in two back to back muscle car races in that dried up reservoir map.

 

I mean from no where these two cars came from behind after having recovered from their respective crashes, I ended up 6th from 1st and I went looking at nitro boosts after the second race cause they just went past me before finally coming across these game play mechanics. Its simply annoying. Too many of these races are simply based of luck.

I hate playing bumper cars, too, but yeah often times other players force me to return their aggression with aggressive defense.

 

It's one thing to end up crashing and running others off the road (and having it done to yourself) just through the natural process of racing, trying to get ahead and maneuvering through traffic bottlenecks and such, but there are many people who gratuitously go out of their way to f*ck you up when they can just as easily move around you. I was winning a lot of races early on during Online's debut, back when players were more wary and even respectful of everyone else's space, but much like open free roam, the dicks have taken over (and the nicer people have become conditioned to be preemptive dicks in response) and now it's become "GTA race"-lite rather than a legit race mode.

I was in a race today the 2 guys in front were slipping each other then the guy in front T-boned another random biker, both guys were ragdolling all over the road. I won and leveled up!!

Moral of this story, race your own race and ignore the others. Get distracted and rapid respawn will become your default action in every race.

Agree with the OP.

 

Simple fix by Rockstar = Give players that crash into other players a bad sport rating.
