Jesus christ, you gotta give it up for the dialog!

Love it or hate it, you gotta agree that GTA V has the best dialog than any other game out there!

The voice acting, writing and everything just sounds so believable and not forced. It seems like they actually took some big screen Hollywood writers to work on this game. Even the comedy too, I mean every line they wrote that was meant to be funny, actually IS funny! From the convo of Michael and Trevor about him being a hipster, to Frank and Lamar's bicker back and forth seemed like some sh*t you'd hear with Ice Cube and Chris Tucker/ Mike Epps from Friday. Speaking of them, the umm "black" dialog from Frank and Lamar (and some of the peds too) sound VERY authentic rather than stereotypical.

If V doesn't win GOTY then it has to at least win best writing or voice acting!

Agree, but they're not always so great. For example, some dialogs sound pretentious and unnatural, like they weren't said by the characters, but rather Dan Houser himself.

My guess is that you are going to get some hate on this thread, I think a lot of it will stem from people not understanding the dialog of the game. It is intended for a more advanced and educated audience, a lot of the trolls around here seem rather young and/or not so bright....

Personally I agree with you, I find the dialog extremely well put together

TakinThyBacon. The problem is, it's not exactly made towards "the educated" audience. Not always. For example, the whole Mark Zuckerberg-clone guy's speech in the first Lester's mission was absolutely Saints Row kind of humor. Totally simplified sense of humor. And Michael's phone talk with Lester, just after he left LifeInvader's office, about first-person shooters and today's cinema, was kinda artificial. And there are a lot of similar examples in the whole game.

Nonetheless, I agree. There's some seriously good writing in this game. Good job Dan and the rest of the crew!

I love the conversations Trevor has when he hangs out with Franklin and Lamar.

"Do you love me more than Chop?"

Grand Theft Savage

The conversation between Michael and Trevor about Trevor being a hipster wasn't funny at all. It felt like a sad and unnecessary attempt.

And the dialogues between Franklin and those around him sounds authentic because R* used real people from the streets of LA to play their roles.

The dialogue didn't wow me at all. It was great, sure, but I don't understand how you are so impressed. GTA IV's voice acting was nothing short of the same quality either.

Yap, dialog is epic... Like Michael proving Trevor was a hipster... LOL! Or the "You hate me cuz i'm beautiful".

But best writing (for story) is probably gonna be TLOU. Best voice acting is GTA V, no doubt.

I agree. Only an advanced intellectual could piece together Righteous Slaughter 7 is a parody of Call of Duty. They even make fun of how every game is the same! I'm glad someone finally pointed that out after all these years! Not enough people have realized that! And you may not have noticed this, but Lifeinvader is actually a parody of Facebook. They're trying to subtly tell us Facebook invades your privacy! :monocle:

I still cannot quite grasp the hidden meanings in this

though! What are they trying to say? :panic: Edited by Deadly Target

Such condescending bull. Seriously this hard/mature/good gamer ego trip is so annoying. Want an award for it?

I’ve been playing games since mid 90’s and Im still bad at driving and shooting, and please lets not even talk about what a fail I am at playing shooting games at a PC. Yet I still love playing. It’s a video game not rocket science. Stop acting like you are better than other cause you understand the “mature” dialog, which is non existence since none of the three characters whining can be call mature.

Lamar was the star of the show for me. So many of his lines really made me laugh he's so natural.

Some sound rather outlandish and out of character, but for the most part it's great.

I agree, great dialogue, IV had it too but this is an improvement. Trevor comes out with some funny sh*t!

Like Michael's opinion on games and movies, like the whole LifeInvader campaign, which I talked about in my another post. Like plenty of radio station talking.

And yeah, GTA V isn't anything "for educated people", as I said previously. It's all very simplified.

I'd have to disagree. There are a lot of times when I've felt the dialogue was forced, mainly with Mike and Frank. Marriage Counseling and the end of the Jewelry Heist come to mind.

The characters at times, just fall short of breaking the fourth wall and saying what the f*ck are you doing with your life, to the gamer.

The hipster dialogue.... I laughed my f*cking ass off :)

The dialogues are indeed one the if not the best in the gta series

I chose the

death sentence ending

and some of the dialogue where Trevor

forgave Michael... just like that.. when I called him to hang out

was extremely underwhelming to the point where it was just weird feeling.

Also I remember one thing that stood out to me was Trevor telling Frankling to "learn to laugh at himself" before the Poleto Heist... and then a stort time after that Trevor trips and falls in a cutscene and nearly strangles Franklin. Does that make any sense to anyone?

And some of the lesser importance voice acting like for random encounter strangers is meh, other than those things I agree with OP.

The writing is fantastic overall and I really enjoy it.

Edit:

not even bothering to fix that

Steven ogg as trevor was amazing, best acting in a video game ever.

Dont forget its not just then talking and recording. They are doing motion capture and acting the whole thing out so saying voice acting is just a little disrespectfull.

It was acting

Agreed, 100%. I noticed this the first night I played it. Trevor is a great character, but his VO actor sounds really off at times, at least for me. Sounds more like the actor is just goofing around, playing the part as he would say it, not necessarily how Trevor would do it (if that makes sense).

I really hate bringing up RDR all the time, but IMO, that game gets the hat tip for best dialogue and VO acting. Just a stellar performance all the way around.

Trevor's political monologues about torture, capitalism, and police racism seem really forced and unfunny. I mean, yes I expected some stuff like that but with a meth addict psychopath taking the moral high ground with everything is questionable.

Also, I at first thought that Jock Cranley's interview on Bless Your Heart sounded like really terrible voice acting, but then I figured out he's playing up the hick speech for the radio audience. I mean, he's no Einstien, but a person who knows what gubernatorial means is probably forcing it when he says "don't need no book learnin".

It does make sense because Trevor is nuts and he's one that would say "do what I say not what I do".

Trevor

forgiving michael

is not weird in any way IMO,

infact he's still very wary of him and doesn't just let him off the hook, their friendship will never be the same.

Considering the amount of dialog in this game it's absolutely amazing. The main characters are fantastic especially Trevor but I also love the typical Ped comments around the game world. I pulled up beside some guy in my car and he was talking to himself and said something that totally fit the moment and it really made me crack up. There is just so much dialogue as a whole and I find it incredible that they put it all together so well. What a massive project that must have been.

100% agree with this. Especially from Trevor. Steven Ogg really hit the nail on the head when voicing him. Best voice actor I've ever heard in a game.

Well Trevor has mental issues so it makes sense he'd have mood swings like that.
