Anyone else think that chat is fail?

The thing i liked most about Red Dead was the proximity chat, and the ability to make an announcement to everyone in the map (by holding down on the d-pad i think?)

 

I hope they change this at some point, there's nothing worse than driving around casually then suddenly hearing some 13 years old screaming;

 

'GIVE ME THE MONEY, GIVE ME THE f*ckING MONEY YOU c*nt, GIVE ME THE f*ckING MONEY YOU c*nt OR I'LL SHOOT YOU IN YOUR f*ckING ARAB BRAINS'

 

it's like, woah.

 

I know you can change the chat settings, but sometimes if i see another player drive by in a nice car i wanna say, hey man nice car, but i can't be bothered to go through the interaction menu (which should be a quick press of the select/back button; who changes view types once you've initially set it?).

100% agree I thought it was going to be area effect, it a pain robbing stores I tend to cough loudly to hurry them up, why can't chat be isolated to area like Arma 2

You can switch your chat to "Friends + Crew" if you roll with friends alot. I usually do that.. But yeah, proximity or something would be nice so I dont have to switch to "Everyone" just to hear a guy beside me on the road.

Yeah i usually play with a friend so just stick to friend chat, but then when he's not online i kind of want to hear what people around me are up to, but you don't know if the people talking are on the other end of the map or right next to you.

 

Fingers crossed they'll change it! or at least add it as an option

I can't even chat at all. When I'm playing with a mate neither of us can hear eachother, except if we make a phone call, which is really very annoying.

because everyone is talking over you? have you set the chat setting to 'friends' in the interaction menu?
