is it safe to play yet?

ive not even attempted to play GTAO yet. Still working through SP and reading all the posts on here i made the right choice on 2 Oct.

 

Im now wondering if its 'safe' to play yet, ie will my character be lost. Being a familyman i really dont have time to be starting all over again if i get deleted.

 

Also as my 8 year old plays on the xbox himself (not GTA i must add!) i tend not to get a lot of friends online due to previous days of playing COD with workmates and random 'hey knob head' type messgaes appearing when they log on and its my lad playing, not me.

I dont really want to be mixed in with the greifers or those that want to run and gun. How would i play in reasonable peace without a long list of online fiends to play with?

I lost my characters a lot the first few days but I have been fine the last 5 days or so. I would say it's safe but no promises.

If you guys can't figure out how to not lose a character at this point, after rockstar has told you how to prevent it, then just don't play. Single player is more your speed.

^Ummm...you know people have lost their characters even without doing any of that stuff...right?

You can create a solo session, or invite only sessions/crew sessions etc. Normal open servers are definitely not going to be 8 year old appropriate.

 

*Edit: Only lost my first day lvl 21 character. Since then all my millions, purchased cars, and properties have all been safe.

Pro-Tip: Losing characters? Don't make a new one till the game is fixed.

 

Also, I'm hoping it's all relatively fixed! Cuz ... I wanna play Online and not just faff about in freeroam.

People were losing characters even with R* preventive save technique.

I did everything "by the book" post 1.02 and still lost a char. Until it is a 100% reliable solution, implemented by Rockstar, it`s just voodoo and rain dances. And it just happens that I don`t believe in neither of them.

The character loss problems have been caused by impatient people overwriting their own character, it has always been safe in that respect as long as you know when it has saved and when not to try and join.

You can lose a lot of progeress though if the MP session hasn't saved. The clue is an orange rotating ring at the bottom right of the screen if it has saved. You can force a save by entering a safe house, completing a task or jumping back to SP(not always reliable though).

If your character deosn't show up then exit back to SP and try again, do not create a new character. Just keep trying going from SP to MP.

Only time I have lost anything is when I had two Elegys in a full garage, swapping one for another car caused loads of grief and even kicked me out of PSN with an error. Cost me my favourite car which had been sat in the garage minding it's own buisness.
