I will never understand why there are people looking for challenges in games. I just wanna have fun.

I agree. Fun>Challenge.

What specific missions are we talking about?

I tried doing an absolute c*nt of a mission (the one from Lester where you blow up cop cars, riot vans, bikes etc) last night with a low level dude and couldn't get it done. Pretty much everything before that though had been fairly simple.

Oh wow I know right?! As far as I can see the 2 times I tried that was there appears to be no way of getting to the riot van.

grenades, they arch

it's not rocket surgery XD

I thought that was one of the easier missions

there's definitely some tough ones in there especially if you solo them but if you don't go in guns blazing it's doable

do hate how accurate npc's blind fire though they kill me from 60 feet away with a pistol without even looking and all I have to shoot at is their hand? :S

I absolutely agree with you. The npcs aim like a battle hardened Navy Seal. When you try to move from cover to cover to get a better angle they pick you off like a deer. Even when you are trying to get away from them in a car at full speed they still don't miss a damn shot, especially when they chasing after you in other cars. I like how in gta 4 the mission difficulty depended on how many lives you had. I don't like this "team lives" idea stuff, because if you play with a bad team your screwed. Each player should get the same amount of lives. The last thing I don't like is when you fail a mission, but let's say you were almost complete, it's a waste of time, you get no compensation award. Anyway, that is my opinion.

the missions are fine, but it is annoying spending awhile on a mission and some idiot dies and you get 0 for it, at least humor me and give me a tiny bit of money and or RP.

The missions can be pretty difficult (the cop one people have been talking about and death from above are missions I struggled on the most), but nearly all of them can be easily completed by utilizing cover well and popping quick headshots on any enemy who isn't using cover to help thin their ranks. So far I've managed to get by solo on all of my missions up to my level (53 atm), as well as with a group.

Also, a side note: on missions that have enemies that drive after you once you complete an objective, stay still and get behind cover. Nearly all missions only have a limited amount of backup vehicles (the only one in which I didn't see an end to was in the mission stickup the stick up crew), and clearing them out of the way makes everything a lot easier. If this isn't your style, drive a big vehicle, preferably one that doesn't have windows in the back, as it greatly reduces your chance of being hit.

ive done missions on hard solo, even a job of a titan mission 3 times solo (different times and days)

you only get 1 life, the trick is just be patient and take cover as much as you can/

You have only two lifes, npcs can shoot like a god, you die very quick and you can get f*cking wanted stars, even in missions where you have to fight gangsters and sh*t.

Some of you might say get some skills, stop whining, go play other games and whatever... but in my opinion the missions in GTAO are too hard. In 50-75% of the cases I and random people who play with me die and mission failed. Sometimes I play a mission for like 30 mins and die then, it was a waste of time and I get nothing, and that happens too often imo.

What do you think?

git gud

At level 42 I've done every one that I can do solo and on hard. I've only had issue with getting the Cargobob from the fort, where you also have to blow up the three fighter jets. The issue I had with that one was enemies constantly respawned.

For the most part on all others, going slow is your friend. Don't try to drive away from being chased, park and set up a defensive position and let them come to you and wait for them to get out of their vehicles and kill them. Stay until they stop showing up and you're good.

With the police one, don't know what to say. Grenade in the middle of the first two cop cars, sticky bomb the riot van (for some reason my character likes to drop grenades instead of throwing them from the vehicle), two sticky bombs between the four motorcycles then sticky bomb the riot van. The first time I had issue because I didn't see the timer so I'd fail at the van, but since then I've done it around 5 times and haven't failed. The mask is also your friend.

I think some Missions should be more difficult than they are.

And some Missions should have an added random element as well. As in not knowing where the enemy shows up (different each time) as as as the amount of enemies.

Some Missions could be set, but i think several of them could have added random elements, Violent Duct for example, sometimes having two Vans of Lost showing up, and some times with added Bikers as well, and not always at the same spot.

The Guards protecting the Titan could also be randomized, both in Amount and Starting Location.

They are good to solo if you thought the missions were too easy in the single player.

But every so often one will come up which is far too hard - like the one where you have to cause mayhem at police stations while on a timer. I lost about 30 grand on hospital bills for that one, only ever managing to get to the military base. I gave up since it just wasn't worth the money.

It's really about using cover effectively and don't use free aim. The AI can shoot like god's so if you can't aim all that fast then use Auto Aim and it only takes a fraction of a second to whip out and get off a shot or two and kill them. Let off the aim button and you instantly go back behind cover.

I solo the missions all the time because I have more fun doing them by myself anyway. I actually like the challenge.

When you get to a location, park far enough away that the enemy doesn't become alert to your presence right away. Scout the area just a bit and pick a good spot for cover where you can't be flanked. Don't pull out a gun until you are ready. As soon as you aim a weapon at them they go into attack mode. Use the cover button and stay behind something and only hold aim long enough to fire off a shot or two and then let off and drop back behind cover. Try to shoot when they are moving or reloading to keep from taking damage. If your health is low stop shooting and don't move and your health will regen to half full. That is also huge as far as surviving goes. It won't regen if you are shooting or moving. Try to let the enemies come to you as much as possible. If you have to move make it fast and get back behind cover as soon as possible.

Ok so once you kill the initial enemies in the area, more will usually come as you try to leave. Do not try to out run them in your car as they are crack shots and drive fast and will usually kill you. If they start coming before you leave just stay behind cover and kill them. From my experience there are two waves that come after the initial group dies. Once they are dead there aren't any more and you are safe to drive to where ever you need to go. If you are driving off and you see a red dot appear get out of your car asap and get behind cover and kill them and then go.

These are just tips and they work for me. I'm sure other people have their own methods, are better shots, better drivers, or whatever. But this works for me and is fun and I've never had any trouble soloing any of the missions that are for 1-4 people.

For some, part of the fun is the challenge. If everything is handed to you, that's not very fun. There's a reason why people LOVE games like Dark Souls and others HATE it. I love a good challenge. Sure, I get frustrated as sh*t some times but once I complete it, it feels damn good lol

This 100%

I mean this in the least offensive way possible, really. The missions aren't that hard, most people are just stupid and don't use cover because for some reason they think they're some type of super hero that should be able to absorb a full clip of assault rifle rounds

It takes a while to get used to the Online stuff, just keep at it :)

This is a good reply. I agree. I do most missions solo. I've passed almost all of them up to level 44 (current) by myself. The key is to have a decent strategy, use cover, and be patient. If you run around out in the open like Rambo, you will most likely get gunned down by the NPC. They can shoot!

I think playing the Uncharted trilogy on Crushing difficulty prepared me for this. The NPC in this game are a piece of cake compared to that.

Put it on easy then.

I haven't even noticed a difference in easy to hard. I could really see easy needing a tone down, but not hard.

The main issue here is that ALL NPC'S in this game do massive damage and have x-man accuracy even from far, far away. There is no variety or separation by class. I have submitted a suggestion to R* about this and have 0% faith they will do anything to address it.

I agree. Fun>Challenge.

Because the fun is in the challenge. Without a challenge, there is no sense of accomplishment. And without a sense of accomplishment, how can you find any enjoyment in completing a task?

Do you feel accomplished when you pour a glass of water? No, because it's mundane. Any idiot can do it.

But something like beating Dark Souls actually takes effort, so when you do it, you feel like you've accomplished something, and that feels f*cking amazing. You've put in effort, and through your effort you've grown as a player, and become better at the game, which has allowed you to triumph over your opponents/obstacles. You've earned your victory.

This picture should explain it for you: http://venturebeat.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/1286856051795.jpg

Exactly, Challenging Missions are Fun.

When you manage to complete a Challenging Mission, that's when you feel you have accomplished something.

The higher the Challenge, the Better the Feeling afterwards when Completing it :)

I like the random element idea

like in tBoGT they had you ripping these drug deals and some of them had random elements like the guy with the drugs trying to escape and stuff

there's some randomness to the AI but that's mostly in reaction to you

I don't understand why it's so heavily geared toward team play. I hate playing with other people. They're unreliable, charge ahead, shoot like crap, and generally don't care. I'd rather play solo ANY DAY over 90% of the idiots online. Rockstar needs to realize that we play GTA cause it's a singleplayer game. Online is fun, but aside from deathmatches and competitions, there should be AN ENTIRE SLATE of stuff to do by yourself. Not this "join up or die" crap. Ugh, really getting disenfranchised. Glad X:Rebirth and PS4 are coming out soon so I can take a break from this game. I haven't slept in a month. lol.

And if I want a challenge, I'll go play Dark Souls. If I want to mow down hundred of gangbangers while strutting like a god through a sandbox world, I'll play GTA. I'm just saying, there should be a setting for people that want a challenge, and a setting for people that want to have fun. They're not always mutually exclusive. Like completing missions with gold medals. What a joke. GTA, if I wanted accuracy challenges I'd play Battlefield.

Agree, it is hard solo on some missions. Almost forces us to go with teams. Would b nice if they made it just a hair easier. Or at least make the NPC's shooting at u not so frikin good at aiming lol

Watch out, you're going to have someone say something like "yeah, cause we needed to resurect a 6 month old thread"

But here's the funny part.... if you started a new thread to make your post.... then someone would say "Learn how to use the search function" and they would leave a link leading to this thread.

Those two type of people are the worst forum people

There's one called base invaders which I thought was ridiculously hard. Even on easy with assisted aim I found it difficulty as the AI are constantly respawning with MG's.

Base Invaders is a cinch with a Buzzard. Easy $18,750. Try it with The Buzzard and you'll find yourself doing that mission each time it comes up.

Someone mentioned Cops Capacity by Lester and I agree that it is complicated. It isn't even worth the money so I don't play it.

I'm able to do almost every mission solo, but I don't rush in. I slowly move in or stay far away sniping people. If you always use your car for cover and wait to shoot everyone after you get the package/objective before delivering it then you'll find most missions are quite easy.

A lot of the really hard ones aren't worth the money you get doing them.

I Played Trailer Teaser last night solo/hard, and those Merryweather dudes can take five or six head shots from the low-end sniper rifle before dying - it's nutz. But like everyone says, the challenge makes it fun. Lie low, eat snacks, and if they get close to you, switch to a shotgun!

There's a handful of missions that may be slightly overtuned if you're playing the missions free-aim and on hard, but most of them are pretty easy once you've done them once or twice before and know what you're in for.

I'm going to strike my own match here and say that every mission is just way too easy, I have never played a mission I couldn't beat solo in less than ten minutes. If you are getting shot by AI, acknowledge their existence and take cover,.. and pick off groups from the outside, I don't get how anyone could find the missions hard once you know them well enough; if you are being pursued by multiples in a vehicle, look behind you and sweep fire them with Any Weapon available. If you are taking fire in a boat, sway the hull so its facing enemy fire, presto. Also stock up on snacks, in almost every mission you can walk directly into a hot zone and kill every single enemy without dying so long as you eat p's and q's while you do it ( Yes you can literally be invincible with a trip to the convenience store, and spare change.)

I want an additional Expert difficulty with zero lives and .25 %rp/cash boost, I think this would be a blast, basically last man standing mode for missions, only you get a big pay out for playing like a pro because you can't risk death at any point. If we had no lives, more players would have mics and be forced to co-operate in situations where it might spark a mutual interest in efficiency and tactile progression.

General outline, no crew bonus accounted for.

Easy Normal Hard Expert

RP 1.00x 1.25x 1.50x 1.75x +.25x free aim 2.00x max)
$ 1.00x 1.25x 1.50x 1.75x
LIVES 3 2 1 0
In theory if you applied this to a popular mission such as Rooftop Rumble, which pays out 37500$ on hard for the first time payment (1.50 X 25000)
You would make 43 750$ on expert (first time only unless you experience the bug) and on repeat play through's you would make 21 875$ (1.75 X 12500) which is still less than the initial payment even without any difficulty multipliers.

Don't forget to always have some P&Qs / eColas on hand. Get up against a wall and eat to your hearts content.

There are a few difficult missions but nothing to really complain about. I just did On Maneuvers by myself without a buzzard... picked my positions wisely, ate a few candy bars, sniped from a good distance.
