You think all those servers, including their ongoing maintenance, pay for themselves ?

 

No-one is forcing you to buy cash cards...you can do it fine without, might just take a little longer.

 

What also makes me laugh is people complain about Micro-transactions but spend an extra £20-30 on Collectors Editions that come with cars, weapons, whatever...is that not the same thing ? (Yes I know you get a t-shirt, blueprint, and some other crap that's not worth the extra money either).

It's not about being friends. It's about being a decent dev/publisher (one of the last, it seems) that CARED about it's fanbase. GTA IV was a massive hit, and those servers are still going, without microtransactions to power them.

 

Nice try though.

 

And yeah, I did buy the collectors edition, complete with useless crap, because I SUPPORTED A GAME DEVELOPER THAT I THOUGHT GAVE A sh*t ABOUT IT'S FANS. Well, that sh*t is right the f*ck out now. I won't be making that mistake again.

 

 

Except that GTA V will have a lot more people online as it primarily based on online play this time round....hence why the SP was shorter than GTA IV. More online players means more servers which means more cost.

 

Then there's the fact that GTA V cost more to develop than GTA IV...in a different financial climate.

 

Again though, no-one is forcing you to buy anything.

 

Look, all this aside, here's how I look at it.

 

As a fan that's played since the top downs, I saw the returns, and the improvements, in each sequential edition. I saw the care, the input, things that let me know they cared about their fanbase.

 

Now, they're just sh*tting on all of that, all of that cred and loyalty they built, just for a few extra bucks. It could damage future GTAs, basically the whole legacy.

 

Kind of like Capcom with Street Fighter. It was one of, if not THE best fighters on the planet. It had a fanbase so big it blocked out the sun. But since Street Fighter 4, where you have to pay to unlock characters, costumes, and other assorted BS, they've gotten quite the reputation, and fans rebelled in droves.

 

Enough to hurt them financially? Not right now, no. Of course not. But in the future... people rarely forget. Especially the obsessed, like ourselves. Look at the failure that was the XBone reveal. That will show you right quick how fans can turn on you on a dime if you betray their trust.

 

 

I think your overacting dude.

 

Sure microtransactions are sh*t, but at the very least there is no pay wall ( meaning you have to buy microtransactions in order to advance).

 

Yeah it takes a bit longer to get money, but at the end of the day GTA Online is really f*cking fun. If you do the modes you enjoy than you should gather up a nice pile of cash in no time (hell winning one race pays you nearly 6K, going to round 10 of Survival gives you 20K)

For a Heist it should be 500k max, it is stupid to think they would pay out multimillions in 1 heist so you can buy everything, making heists redundant.

The developers may care, but at the end of the day it's the big-wigs at the top that call the shots, and as with any company it's about making money.

It's honestly that a company I loved is going to sh*t that irks me to no end.

I've been thinking about this also, I'm almost sure it will have a once every 24 hour(real time) cool down before you can do it again and no way it will give a mil for just yourself i mean cmon, doing 1 heist and bam you can buy a Rhino? or best apartment and 3 lambos? No way they gonna let that happen.

 

They will prolly make lester get like a 95% cut lol

I reckon heists will be based around Job Points....500 Job Points to initiate a heist or something.

That then makes you participate in other stuff to earn Job Points.

You supported a game developer ? No you didn't... you bought their product because you like it. It's not as if you gave them a charitable donation. You bought it because you wanted to play it...not out of any loyalty.

You've payed for the CE to "support" your petty devs, that CE contains digital content which is a "timed-exclusive" and will be later down the line sold as a DLC, by buying this you support the "remove content from original disc - sell as DLC later on" type of bullsh*t.

Rockstar said they eventually want to add Liberty City for players to travel via the airport and play in.

Collectors edition comes with like a tshirt or something dude or an custom in game gun not a mission pack or add on, You're basically just paying for something that is well...collectable and it does help the devs. The way you're talking means you don't understand how MMO's work. MMO's are not like Battlefield or Halo where you play online and it's all good in the hood. GTA online just like world of warcraft its persistent and updates and updates and running servers don't come cheap. Would you rather pay 15 a month? or have it where you can only access half for free and other half with pay(it's called freemium) or dlc packs that cost like 40 bucks every few months or micro transactions? you have to pick one because money don't just magically appear and servers don't run for free and the game doesn't update for no money they have to get it from somewhere or discontinue the game there are no other options they would release the game and lose profit if they let you play online and updated it for free.

Which so far hasn't happened yet.. The near release DLC's that we know previous content we also know will be free, for anything past that we really don't know.

The near release DLCs that we know will be free for GTAO as Rockstar stated on their site, then didn't mention anything single-player-wise, just take a look at their previous MP3 / RDR game with their "timed-exclusives" and "collector's content", they basically sold at release date for $20-$30 extra and a few months later you could buy it for $5 or something alike.

 

But people are like: "LOL NOPE NOT WAITING, I'M PAYING MORE RIGHT NOW SO PUBLISHERS CAN f*ck US OVER MORE IN THE FUTURE"

 

 

@Above: Instead of typing bullsh*t, provide a source, where did they mention ALL upcoming DLCs will be for free? :facedesk:
