gta V disc update failed controller sync

So I finally got GTA V yesterday for my Xbox 360. After I put the first install disc in I was asked to do an initial update before installing GTA V. After the update had installed and restarted my Xbox I was suddenly unable to connect my controller to the Xbox, despite having just navigated the menu 1 minute before with the same controller. I have tried may times to use the connect button on the Xbox and controller at the same time, though all that happens is they recognise each other, the lights stop flashing on the Xbox and the controller continues to flash, once again not allowing me to use any buttons, or navigate anything. I can however turn on my Xbox with the controller although that is all I can do with it. I have tried three different controllers, unplugging the hard drive and power supply, having my TV turned off, took off the console face to try and press down the board controlling the sync to see if that has disconnected, HEAPS of ways to get my controller to connect to my Xbox but nothing worked.

I then contacted Xbox Support, who after 2 hours of talking with someone and their manager trying all different ways of connecting my controller, I was eventually told that there was no possible way that it was a software issue and so it must be a hardware problem (which I find ironic), and that there was nothing else I could do from my end, and because my Xbox was out of warranty I had to ship it out and have it repaired, COSTING ME A BIT LESS THAN A WHOLE NEW XBOX ($99, with the waiting). I then contacted Rockstar who informed me that there was nothing they could do either.

I was able to use my brother's Xbox elite and using the same steps as I did previously was able to successfully install GTA V and play (with my hard drive inserted), but I am unable to continue using his Xbox.

So my question is, has anyone encountered this problem (with or without the GTA V update), and if they have how have they fixed it.

MY XBOX IS USELESS AFTER THIS UPDATE!!!
