So long of loading time, slow hardware? Possible to upgrade PS3?

Im normally a computer gamer with a beast computer and these extremely long loading times between switching sessions or going from single player to online are freaking killing me man! Is there any way to juice up a ps3? Can you change the processor or overclock them at all? Or is it just gonna stay slow because of other players still being slow? I have super fast internet, it just doesnt seem like it should take so long to load. Feels like slow hardware but i could be wrong. i only use my ps3 for GTA and a blueray player as most console games suck balls compared to PC games so I dont know much about them, any help would be appreciated. Also while on the subject I have a billion friend requests, any way to delete them all at once or do i have to do it one by one? thanks!

Even if you could overclock, and I don't think there is any way to, you wouldn't want to. PS3 PHAT CPU runs at 75C IDLE... go any higher and the thing will melt. I don't know about Slim.

Yea I guess you are right, ive heard about them running too hot as it is. Though you could always improve cooling. not possible to replace it then? ive never cracked one open but PCs are easy to change processors, they just plug in, PS3 could have it soldered on though, that would make it harder but not impossible i wouldnt think, but worth it? who knows, maybe not or people would be doing it, lol! Thanks. Guess just have to wait till ps4 or pc release hopefully.

You wouldn't be able to put a random CPU into a PS3. There wouldn't be a slot for any type of PC CPU, and even if you got one in, the PS3 wouldn't even boot up.

Correct.

Socket is one issue, as is the instruction set, and games expect a certain CPU speed. Also the CPU wont help with load times, so I'm not even sure why it was suggested.

You can apparently however replace your PS3 magnetic hard drive with an SSD drive.

If you did a complete install on to the SSD, your load times should speed up, but don't expect miracles.

well obviously, and even different pc motherboards take different cpus, they arent all universal but depending on what board is in the ps3 there should be other cpus that would work, unless they just make their own board and chip and its unique, which could be the case I guess.

It's faster on the Xbox and we all know the tech differences there.
Probably has to do with how the textures are unloaded. I ruled out network (though in some cases it will be an issue) by comparing SP on both systems.

Swapping out the CPU would not be like in a computer. If I had to guess you'd have to swap out 5-7 other chips as well, assuming you could even find a different CPU to work on that mobo.. which you wont

hrm, good idea about the HD. I guess im no console expert but pc games work at different cpu speeds but i spose you have a point, I dont know much about programming and since consoles are standard they might not be able to run correctly at a faster speed. I just assumed that the long loading time was the CPU setting up the environment and spawning all the random NPCs and whatnot, but maybe thats not the limiting factor in the huge load time. I dont recall gta 4 taking this long to load, but it was much less complex. It could be loading data from the HD I guess, but how about online? how fast can they handle data? I have a 36Mbps internet connection. Maybe adding more ram? a console is basically a computer that uses your tv for a monitor is it not?

Not even close, a console is a closed system, not meant for upgrades, the fact that you can change the HDD on the PS3 is some sort of miracle in the console world.

It's all unique. Consoles aren't designed to have components replaced. For example, the RAM is soldered to the motherboard. You can't even buy the type of RAM used in a PS3. Same with the CPU and GPU.

The CPU is very much unique. Nothing from Intel or AMD would work as a replacement. The CPU was manufactured by IBM, and they made a similar ish chip for the 360. You couldn't replace it with a 360 one though, and you wouldn't want to, because the PS3 one is more advanced.

Console games are written to use the exact hardware in the console. If that hardware changes, I don't think anything would work, because of all the optimization they do for that specific hardware configuration.

A console is an outdated, cheap PC that runs specialized software. Display has nothing to do with it unless you are talking about portable consoles. I play my Xbox on a monitor, and my computer on my 'TV.'

I'd rather the ps3 run twice as slow than have to play on a lame ass PC. Why would you want an awesome console to play like that sh*tty thing?

Fair enough. I just assumed that the case is full of hardware similar to computer hardware and they have to get it from somewhere and given the amount of computerized stuff in the world and the fact its constantly getting better and faster it would be possible to find compatible chips to upgrade it with.

Makes sense about the software being designed to only run on this specific hardware though now that I think about it, that is why software for PC and apps for smartphones are so much more complex and why they have some issues on some devices but not others, its harder to make it work on all the different hardware perfectly.

About the monitor, i just meant that a console is a cheap computer, part of the reason its cheap is because most people dont need an expensive specialized display to use as you already have it, a TV.

Guess we just have to wait then, so frustrating it takes so long. Thanks for the quick console education fellas. This game is much to intense and demanding for these old outdated consoles. I guess thats the disadvantage to taking 5 years to make, they didnt have the ability to just make it for the ps4 and have it run better and faster, lol!

I used to use a TV to display my PC. Now I use a gaming monitor for my PC and PS3.

All the chips are specialized. The RAM is tiny compared to PC RAM. Seriously, it's so small. I think you would be amazed lol.
