Is anyone else finding deathmatches costing them more than you get?

So I just played a 20 minute free-for-all deathmatch with a 40 kill limit. I ended up just below the middle of the pack (I work better in teams, I'm not great solo) and got a whopping $540 from it... I don't think that is going to even pay back the bullets I lost...

Does anyone know how they even determine who gets how much? I remember another game (can't remember what type it was, some team-based one) where I was in a team of 3. I was the only member on my team to get a kill (I think I got 2 or 3), while the rest of my team got slaughtered. My teammates won a bit over $1000 each, while I got about $300 even though I did all the work.

Whatever algorithm they are using to calculate rewards doesn't seem to make much sense to me. Has anyone else been experiencing this sort of stuff?

Also interested in how payout is calculated. I'm assuming its rank related in deathwatch?

Not sure exactly but if it helps i came top in a 1st to 25 free for all and i got $4200. Which i still thought was bs rob 2 stores for that in a lot less time. Have not done another one since

Did they do that in the deathmatch, or are you talking about free roam? Because for free roam, I've always figured: hell, if they have car insurance in the game, why not health insurance? It could reduce the cost of death and provide free health packs or something.
