Epsilon leader cutscene on death?

I'm rank 65 somebody just ran me down with a semi and when I died the screen turned white and some guy in blue and white clothes was floating said he was leader of epsilon and was talking about how he spends his time "watching people" and it's greatest pleasure on earth and he's slept with a lot of women and to join him. Wtf is that about? When I returned to apartment nothing popped up saying new contact or anything what does it do?

I was pretty certain it was a joke about Scientology and how it's a cult.

 

If you pay attention to the Epsilon storyline, only the rich reach the top of the Epsilon hierarchy, because they're the only ones who can afford the donations.

 

Just like Scientology.

Invite only, passive mode, playing solo, no PvP

Its only triggered once you are killed by a fart online. AI deaths don't trigger it. So if you stick to inv only and only do missions, getting to 65 without triggering this cutscene is possible.

Btw, the Epsilon guy cutscene is basically the introduction to "Passive Mode". Also, lucky you for not being killed until level 65.

I got in public lobbies only since lvl 85, when i realized i could create invite-only, i said to forced PvP goodbye, as i was pretty sick of "social bonding" with people who wanted to kill me.

I concentrated on peaceful grind and ocassional race, thus i saw this scene pretty late.

I immediately drew parallels to the Hubologists in Fallout Online, which was a clever tie-in of respawning mechanics in the story.

 

Doing jobs for Epsilon would be pretty pointless, though as they are religious scammers.

That's good, i'd hate to pay up front for respawn and spawn in prison, when broke and shovel cow turds to pay the bail.

Not only that but the Epsilon missionaries also resort to subtle blackmail tactics just like Scientology 'collectors' IRL. That and the Epsilon mansion is also modeled after the Scientology building in LA.

 

In any case, yeah, that animation is shown upon first death. Though it may also be shown upon your first death at the hands of another player (I don't remember exactly, it's been 3 yrs lol).

Only happens the first time you die. It's basically a sh*tty scripted tutorial/allusion to Passive Mode and a sh*tty explanation of how you will be able to come back from being shot to pieces, blown up, set on fire, maimed, run over, crushed by a train, drowned, ...you get the point.
