Melee has never been a strong point of GTA. The Warriors was amazing for fighting though and I know that if R* want to make a game central to that then they can succeed.

I'm still hedging my bets for GBH, the British ultraviolence fighting equivalent of GTA.

As the melee is not the most important thing is this game I'll say that it's fine.

The melee is pretty damn funny in this game. Do you know how many Worldstar-worthy fights I've gotten into in this game? I could make a mixtape

I actually really like the fighting in this game...especially the animations. A few more moves wouldn't hurt of course, but it is very satisfying to me.

The punching is vastly improved over what it was in IV. Unfortunately they didn't do anything with the kicks and I have to agree that melee weapons aren't very good either. I wish they would do a good hard full swing instead of that quick little half swing they do. It's really hard to feel like you're letting it all go when you want to smash up a car or just slam someone really good. Might have been nice to have some sort of wind up mechanic for melee so if you hold the button down for a second or two you get a fuller, harder swing. But the punching is amazingly fun. I love running up behind people and giving them that huge haymaker punch to the back of the head. The spinning elbow and the gut punch and some of the others also look very good. I really enjoy the fist fighting now where in IV I hardly ever used it.

The melee weapons and fighting system are cool with me. Nothing quite like dishing out a jaw breaking uppercut or stealth kill with a knife into the side of someone's head. I do wish they did a little more with the countering but otherwise it's a big improvement from the last game.

Oh man, I used to do fist fights all the time in IV! My favorite thing to do is start a fight someone then get him close to a bystander and he accidentally hits him so they both start fighting! It's kinda hard to do it on V, since alotta by standing peds run away from the scene anyways.
