Suggestions to improve Freemode

Clothing Stores:

It's really bad that all clothes are available in every clothing store, now players don't need to drive up to a clothing store in Paleto Bay or Sandy Shores for example. Everything is nearby...

Different clothing stores in different areas should hold different clothes!

I would like to be able to purchase these items:

  • redneck/hillbilly clothing
  • mobster clothing (trench coats etc)
  • biker clothing like leather vests and pants
  • rockabilly clothing
  • geek clothing (suspenders, glasses with scotch tape:P)
  • t-shirts/sweaters with all areas, Vespucci/Vinewood etc.
  • "rob-clothing" like ski mask and hoodies with the hood put on (OF ALL COLORS)
  • beach clothing for men like swim trunks short and long legs
  • sports wear like NFL/NHL/NBA type of clothing, with no team just numbers maybe, sweathers, tank tops, shorts. (OF ALL COLORS)
  • bandanas! not just the biker type, also the gangster type whit a knot on the forehead or on back of the head (like Tupac/Nate Dogg) or covering mouth or hanging from the waist.(OF ALL COLORS)
  • more caps, no brand, LS caps is enough (OF ALL COLORS)
  • clothing for construction workers, truck drivers etc.
  • police/firefighter/ambulance clothing for a higher price at AMMU-NATION (have read about here on the forum somewhere)

More clothing options will give more choices to form different crews.

The last suggestion + being able to store a stolen police car in the garage would come in handy when you want to come close, getting in unnoticed to some places. (You go to that special LS Customs that deals with illegal kind of stuff and removes tracker. These kind of vehicles should have trackers also, since cops would like to keep track of each other)

LS Customs

Different LS Customs Shop's should be specialized on different things, legal and illegal Custom shops. Like you would need to go to a special place when doing illegal stuff like removing the tracker from a stolen car, at a higher price.

Let us customize ANY vehicle, if someone wants to customize an ambulance then it's his choice.

OP I <333 you just for the sheer length of that post  Very thoughtful and well laid out.

Loved 100% of what you said.

And you really need to submit that post directly to R* ASAP because it would definitely help them get their heads out of their @$$

Mods plz sticky this..

Hate that it keeps getting lost..

Thanks so much for your support, guys.

It would be awesome to get this topic stickied indeed :)

Hope you all are emailing the suggestions to them :)

[email protected]

Definitely agreed.

I did mail them a link to this topic some time ago. I'd like to do it again, but I'd rather not pass as a spammer ... I think it might be best if different people would forward this topic to them. Would also show them many players are actually endorsing the suggestions.

So yeah, if you like this topic, please show your support by sending a message to Rockstar about it :) !

Hi Ren,

Great suggestion. :)

Hey there ! Long time no see :)

Thank you. Your idea is pretty interesting too - I didn't think about having far blips (or area circles) hidden altogether.

So what you'resuggesting is having the Player Blips : Area system I described working on a "near" setting instead of "far", right ? I could see it working.

If it's ok with you, I'll add your suggestions right next to it in the OP :)

@robban

Your Dealing with multi millionaires/multi billionaires system is pretty cool ! This might be a definite solution to money abuse.

I'll add it to the OP ;)

Same thing regarding your idea about high end cars. It's true a GTA game should focus on having the players steal the cars. I don't know if they would be able to make the crane available online, but if they do I could definitely see such an cool idea being implemented :)

Clothing Stores:

It's really bad that all clothes are available in every clothing store, now players don't need to drive up to a clothing store in Paleto Bay or Sandy Shores for example. Everything is nearby...

Different clothing stores in different areas should hold different clothes!

Man I agree with you so much about this ... this is what I keep telling myself each time I walk into a clothes store in GTAO. What's the point ?

I suppose Rockstar obviously did it for accessibility, but frankly, I think that's pushing it. The stores aren't that far away from each other... it also kills immersion to get a list of clothing that has nothing to do with what's actually showing inside the store.

I'll also add this idea to the OP :)

I got full of crazy ideas and thoughts, I just need to take time to write them down here:S

I just wish they could make the game fun for a long time ahead, like someone here on the forum wrote somewhere: Heists won't be that many online when we only got 6 in Story Mode...

I also try to take the limitations that these consoles may have in mind when making stuff up...

I'm just making stuff up:P

I wish they could take the entire game world to next-gen consoles, don't alter anything graphicwise. But if they choose to do so it must not be on the expense of content.

Yes. Just 'yes' to everything in this thread. Free Roam has so much untapped potential, these ideas will make it what it should have been initially.

TL;DR

But it would be nice to have some thought put into freemode... Some of the SAMP servers had some really good ideas along these lines. It's a shame R* chose not to look into their most successful MP game to date (perhaps because they didn't create it themselves, they're all butthurt).

"Suddenly it would be a thrill to know that players you cannot see may be aware of your loudness. Remember, someone coming to thwart your "loud" bank robbery might be keeping anonymous themselves and sneak up on you but adversely in a resulting car chase, you could actually lose them through nifty driving and then hide out in an alley by keeping quiet. These are the kind of GTA experiences I was personally hoping for in online. The lack of constant blips would actually make the city seem so much more alive."

Sounds incredibly fun. Would like to play in a system like this^^

Sadly I don't think R* would actually take a player/forum user idea. Sucks cause the sh*t they've come up with is trash.

Ooo - That was one of my quotes! :D

Yes, I was hoping for a revolutionary free-roam lobby from Rockstar but it looks like they were pressed for time or something. I'm still hoping for a next-gen "GTA: Online" that corrects everything. :)

Very cool idea actually ! Allow me to add it to the OP.
If you're asking me, I think car trunk based mechanics should be used much more in GTA ... I can't for the life of me understand why they didn't try to implement some yet.

That's exactly what I've been thinking too - Maybe there's little chances they would implement these ideas in the current GTAO, but what about the PC version, or the next gen port ?
That's why I believe we shouldn't give up yet... we should keep this thread going strong and suggest more, well thought out and constructive suggestions.

That would have been a pleasure ... unfortunately I'm playing on the Xbox360 :/

Exactly. I'm agreeing with you 100%.

Seriously, GTAV is a real technical feat when you think about it - they managed to create this huge map that feels right and lively, thanks to the attention to detail, fun NPCs going around and all.
The game has strong foundations to be the ultimate free roam experience thanks to this - but everything else feels like wasted potential. Mostly because of bad design choices that end up hindering everything positive about it, in my humble opinion. I don't believe it's too late to save it though. They would only need to fine tune certain aspects of the game (mainly the ones we've been discussing here, and in many other good topics around the GTAForums), and truly listen to player feedback.

Players are the ones experiencing all aspects of the game everyday. I think they probably are in the best position to point the legit flaws of the game and help correct them.

I'm also playing it on the Xbox360, I've have been playing it all by myself on SOLO sessions, once in a while I go and play with others (to do some Survival) but their only joy in Free mode is to kill each other. I don't blame them, since there isn't much to do...

So I guess I've still have some fun stuff to explore playing with others, none of my friends has the Xbox though...

I totally agree with you Ren Fujin, the game is truly a masterpiece. I usually don't play games at all, but I've been hooked on this game ever since I saw the trailer, this is the first GTA game that I've played. Was driving around in Liberty City (IV) though, waiting for V:]

It was jaw dropping the first time I played the game, but you get spoiled after a while and don't appreciate the small things. But I got to lower my rating though, it was a bit of a disappointment that they focused on other things. Sure golf and tennis is cool, but this is not a sports game in the end. Exploring the sea might be nice, but is really boring online when it's totally dead without fishes. It would be like driving around without NPC's on the streets...

People might hate me for writing this, but they should remove GOLF and Tennis and maybe even everything below sea level to make place for more stuff above sea level (remove the feature of diving, we can be bad-*sses with one single weakness: water:) ) We can still do water races etc. and get wet in the pool. If removing stuff would make space for other stuff.

I doubt that Rockstar would fulfill that suggestion... But let's say all members of Socialclub of legal age would have the option to decide/vote what to keep and what to remove. And what content could be added instead.

I might be wrong, but I doubt there will ever be some fast paced action below the sea. And you are an easy target without any weapons like above to defend yourself with.

All the fun stuff happens above sea level.

And yeah I know, my opinion doesn't count since I've not been playing all the games in the series...

Even my little brother (not of legal age, yeah I'm a bad brother...) thinks this game lacks on content comparing to SA, he even came up with a cool idea:D

(If lowriders with hydraulic suspensions were available)

"There should be a competition where the goal is to throw all the babes out of the car by bouncing"

But I guess we won't see any silly features, it has to be realistic... it just has to, even if it kills all the fun.

(I just have to point out for those who might find it odd to remove stuff that there are stuff in the game that you can't use, like skate parks but no skateboards. So there can be a golf course that you can't use. You can hit others with a golf club though:P Haven't searched for one Online so don't know if there is one)

Rockstar let's go in the other direction, we can still use removed features in Story Mode.

Golf and tennis are too clunky but potentially great fun. Underwater in online is redundant. But I would be sad to see them removed. Instead I hope they polish up all the mini-games and add some point to the underwater (i.e. online collectables.)

How do I submit this to Rockstar?..

Underwater would work if R* plans on integrating this with central components like the heist missions. Just like back in SP where micheal had to swim underwater and enter the building interior from the basement level.

Underwater opens up a whole other dimension in terms of a possible TDM mission scenarios. Your char can fight underwater with a knife, so why not use that feature to attack other players?

Then there is adding random spawns of valuable stuff like ammo cache drops, money etc. at various plane/ship wreckage sites underwater. The deeper these crates, the more valuable. So if one were to spawn below crushing depth level, then it should have at least a $500k+ value in terms of money, armor, weapons etc. in it. Perhaps even clothing/masks which you can only unlock above say level 50!

Deep sea crate drops would also be a great way for low level players to gain early access to the high end weapons like mini guns, fully modded weaponry etc. etc. But it would work the same way as with the survival missions. You only get to keep those weapons until the end of that gaming session.

Doing stuff like this would encourage ppl to explore not just the underwater areas of the map, but the entire map. R* needs to unlock ALL deep sea exploration water craft (dinghy with scuba gear, sub etc) and keep these vehicles unlocked once you reach the level to unlock them. Re-locking vehicle access to mission important vehicles like the cargo bob and choppers after you get beyond a certain level is plain retarded IMO. Honestly what the fuk were you thinking there R*?? :miranda:

And don't get me started on surfing or windsurfing. These 2 water sport activities were a complete no brainer when R* decided to make the ocean a major map feature :miranda:

Just need to unlock scuba gear and then crate drops at the bottom of the ocean...release harpoons as a underwater weapon..can you see the potential battles players could have...I'm picturing some scene from a Bond movie in my head...teams rushing to get to the drop first..harpoons wizzing pass you head...

A more friendly mode which gives upgrading vehicles some meaning and a place to really show off your rides.

The Stunt Man Stand-in:

At a certain rank you get a call from the adrenaline junkie from Story Mode, can't remember his name. He introduces you to this guy from the film industry (we are in Vinewood after all) and he has some jobs for you.

You participate in different competitions for cars, bmx:es, motorcycles. You begin with a sh*tty one on all of these categories. The objective is to unlock different features for all of them that gives you a better chance to hit bigger scores. Towards the end you will only be able to participate on some races/obstacle courses with a fully modded vehicle and outfit.

You score points as you make flips, grinds, land high jumps. You will get better score making more flips at a time, longer grinds, land higher jumps.

One of the modifications let you land tricks from very high buildings/mountain shelves, right now you crash if you do so.

These trick-vehicles will only be available for doing these stunt jobs, but will be available to use in Free Mode once you finished everything.

You compete yourself up to the point where you proven yourself to be a daredevil to count with. At this point you have made it to celebrity status and are visible on all big billboards around the city for other players to see for an entire GTA-day or something.

1zvc2nr.jpg

The cougar chic is replaced with a pic of you, with your clothes on.

Now you get discounts on expensive stores around the city as a celebrity.

2jdrwgj.jpg

You'll win a trophy that appears in your apartment once you completed everything.

This will be a game mode, guns are swapped with paintball guns. You will be able to buy different color shots.

So other players around you will only be able to "paint" you and make scores (get higher rank or something) while not doing stunt jobs. In this mode shower and car wash would really have a purpose:

2ypdx1i.jpg

In this friendly game mode players cruise around the map with their pimped up rides and listening to nice music without the risk of getting your vehicle blown up in pieces.

All races and parachute could be moved to this game mode.

2q1hwcj.jpg

Fame or shame is a thing of the past, that was Tracy's thing.

Make a Custom Car and Bike Show in the Maze Bank Arena instead!

Bring whatever custom vehicle you want and compete with random players around the world only (no friends/crew). You vote on other rides, not your own with the chance of winning a price.

(You're allowed to have like 4-5 bikes in your garage, it's really boring having un-customized ones just hanging there...)

Radio stations/Music:

They really need to do something about the music in this game, it's kinda hard to get that Cali-feeling to Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls... I know I don't need to listen to Non Stop Pop FM, but I just like listening to Kara's voice:P

There are a few songs that are good, haven't been listening too much on the radio. I just keep switching all the time since the radio stations starts from track 1 all the time...

One thing that is positive is the latino station, one artist even mentions Los Santos, even though the songs aren't that great.

They should really start co-operating with a streaming service or something, and give players a discount maybe, or they could come up with something. There shouldn't be a problem since the game sold in such a huge quantity companies could be interested.

Or maybe a DLC that let's us make our own playlists from music on the harddrive (have also been mentioned here on the forum)

A cool feature (optional) would be if the radio switched station depending on what zone you come to. (Another advantage with dividing the map into zones is street gangs...) [this would require that we make different playlists for different zones]

Let's say you're in the ghetto listening to this:

South Central Cartel - All Day Everyday

(I linked to this music video to show what is missing in game when it comes to clothes, but listen to the uncensored version:] )

And music switchs smoothly to this when you enter Vagos Territory:

Wicked Mind feat. Cali Life Style - Keep It Pimpin

The same happens with country music etc.

This should be in: The option to upgrade your music gear in the car, to get better sound in your speakers:P

There should be an option to automatically put music on as you enter the apartment or garage and music should definitely start when a lap dance starts.

Give us at least the option to choose our favorite tracks from the game to make our own playlist.

Apartment:

Access to the roof top, no animation needed, you just enter the elevator to the top floor maybe. From there you can sky dive or call a helicopter.

I know everyone wants a helipad on top of the roof, but think about it. We all share the same roof and there is only one helipad:S

Races:

There need to be different track records for normal vehicles and custom vehicles.

Traffic:

Drunk drivers (NPCs) appear randomly and cause accidents and traffic jams, on the big roads at least, as ambulance/helicopter ambulance/firefighters appear.
Maybe even the possibility to drive drunkards home and get a small payment, if you meet any.

Roadwork after accidents or just randomly to make the traffic flow change so getaways don't get so easy every time.

Cops:
Cops are patrolling the streets by foot, the streets where all the apartments/hotels that are available for players are located.

HUD:
Hud needs to show speed in MPH or KMH when driving and biking.

Missions:

I understand that we can't get paid the same amount repeating missions, a solution is to make the missions harder every time. Has been suggested here in the forum.

But if not, let there at least be a sign or something that shows that you have played that mission. How are we supposed to keep track of every mission we have ever played:S And we keep getting the same missions over and over again on the phone...

Random events:

You become a hostage when you visit a store or are about to rob a bank:O Life takes different turns.

You are able to make your way out of the situation, but other players can come to your rescue too.

I feel like Simeon needs more than one location to take his cars. It is really annoying and also a bit unfair to those who wish to make some bonus cash turning in cars for Simeon. I've been victim of it, but I'm also guilty of doing it myself.

It would be really cool if the game promoted cooperation in freeroam, but also a bit of chaos. What if a random event popped up splitting the lobby into two teams. Each team in the lobby would be against eachother in events like a random open world deathmatch, or maybe one team could be tasked with escorting an npc/vehicle or defending a location.

I also feel like car insurance and bad sport should be removed enitrely. People are being knocked into bad sport lobbies for trying to defend themselves or others from griefers, and insurance is really pointless. Insurance won't protect you from griefers and won't bother those who have tons of money anyway. We need a new system.

Here's my proposal: If you blow up another player's PV, you get an instant 3 star wanted level and a temporary "criminal" label next to your name and a unique blip on the map. You have a chance to escape the 3 star wanted level, as usual, but the criminal label remains until you are killed, whether by the police or another player. Players that are killed while labeled a criminal will respawn in the prison (possibly wearing a prison outfit for the fun of it) and given a chance to escape, of course escaping would result in a 4 star wanted level that you would then have to lose.
Players that kill a "criminal" would be rewarded similar to a bounty.

I feel like that would satisfy most players. There would be no more worry about bad sport lobbies, but there would be sufficient annoyance to discourage random acts destroying PVs AND it would create a nice little side objective for all those in the freeroam. Not to mention it would be fun to be able to aid in breaking people out of prison if you chose to go that route. Of course, you'd have to contend with wanted levels if you did that too.

Los Santos certainly is a safe place right now, it doesn't feel very accurate to real life.

What if a bus of prisoners, on their route to prison, gets jacked and all prisoners escape and making all sort of chaos on the streets.

Your, and other players, mission is to capture them dead or alive and get rewarded.

But I guess it's hard to implement "random" in games, things need to be linear like in Story Mode to control everything...

(use this to implement random: number of players in session, day of the week + current time or something)

I like the idea of simply having a rooftop entrance...and no need for personal heli pad..

I haven't unlocked the helicopter service but the ability to call for a pickup from the top of your building would be awesome..

A great way to escape awaiting bounty hunters at your front door..

Heists:

I'm afraid that there will only be 6 like in Story Mode as someone mentioned here on the forum.

What we need them to be is re playable, so we can do them over again. A smart and loud approach won't do.

Everything needs to change every time, to make it fun and challenging.

Security, payout, witnesses and traffic have to be different all the time. Based on what time of the day you plan to rob the bank for example.

You may have a plan, but everything changes as soon as you step out of the building with the money. There is big traffic jam on your planned route, f*ck the chauffeur. What we need is helicopter etc. etc.

Criminal Records (not the race):

It would be cool if there was a paper sheet with a mugshot or something and a list of all your accomplishments:

- How many drug zones you controll

- How many cops you've killed

- How many bank robberies you've done

- How many mafia bosses you've killed

etc.

Then certain missions will require that you qualify for them, if you're only a thief you can't do thug missions etc. (Just rank points won't do)

Okey, it's a bad move to remove things from the game.

But maybe they can create different modes, one where you cut down traffic so you can hunt (throw in them bears and other animals, make it challenge), go fishing, diving etc. And one where you exclude those things + tennis and golf etc. and focus more on criminal activity.

A Wild Animal Survival would be really awesome:P

Or having 2 teams competing about who shoots that elk or something.

My guess is that it's not possible to have everything present in one session, they must have cut out animals for a reason. And bus and trains don't appear frequently online either...
