Rockstar don't know why our characters are gone, do they?

Updated 10/8/13: If you have previously created a character but see an empty character selection screen when entering GTA Online, please back out to GTAV Story Mode and try re-entering GTA Online through the pause menu (repeat or wait until Rockstar cloud servers are back up). Do not create a new character in the empty slot where your character should be.


If you receive the message 'The Rockstar Cloud Servers Are Unavailable', please return to GTAV Story Mode and follow the steps above. Please do not press “Retry” on the message and do not proceed online with saving disabled, as this may lead to overwriting your existing character.



After so many days -3 for me- this is the best they can come up with? :barf:

That last sentence worries me. I was under the impression that my character just got unlinked from my account somehow, but for them to say it's been overwritten makes me wonder if it's even possible to get back now.

I saw someone from the rockstar team write if you have overwritten there is little to no hope of getting it back.

I started a new character in slot 2. I've barely played anything worthwhile since. I'm starting to get a bit bored of GTA Online because of all this.

Every day I wake up, log into these forums and quickly turn on PS3. I always check if my character is back.
3 f*cking days now - my character is gone.
Another sh*tty start of the day. I am seriously starting to consider going to the nearest Rockstar office and throwing bricks into their windows. Useless piece of sh*t c*nts. They didn't even reply to my email for 2 days now.
I am fuming, I am so angry, that I literally can't socialize at the moment or I may hurt somebody that pisses me off.

Go onto social club and take pic of your $$. Earned and your reward points stats. Start a ticket with support and mail them pic of stats. Make a new character and when they fix the deleting problem they will add reward points and $$$ to your account but not before deleting problem is fixed. That's what guy I just phoned from support told me to do

I just hope they reimburse us somehow. Triple XP/$$ or something.

If you have not overwote your character yet I heard if you go to Single Player and have a friend invite you into a mission from your in game phone your character might come back.
I have not tried this yet but will after work.

Is the retry thing the only cause of the character loss? Did someone lose his character without retrying to connect?

This is what I would like to know aswell. I think I saw some posts about people still losing their character even when they don't press retry.

Well me and a friend were playing together when the cloud servers went down but i tried to get back online and he just quit the game.

 

I lost my character and he didn't, from now on if they go down i'm not even going to try and get back online as i feel that could be why i lost it..

I made my slot 2 my main now and overwritten slot 1 with a nice better face / preset . It was missing for 3 days and it never shown on social club so I can bet it was never saved, since both slot 2 AND the new slot 1 shown instantly.

 

I am starting to believe that they are full of sh*t and trying to cover missing saves, rather than missing chars. The money was there, but I also suspect it`s being handled by a whole different server alltogether.

 

I might be wrong, but I don`t care. It does reek of incompetence right now. 7 days is far too long to fix one save issue.

I suspect you are pretty much right. I decided to do the same as you did. I left my one slot empty in hopes my old main will return and overwrote my other slot and started fresh. Just sitting and waiting is killing me in hopes that a fix will happen. I'm taking things into my own hands now. If I follow all their steps I shouldn't lose my character, right? lol well we will see about that after time. But for now its time to use my waiting time building a new character instead of waiting for it to be fix.

Yes. I was doing a Survival Mission, and the servers died while we were doing it. We didn't know, cos it never tells you. We died on wave 10, and then we went into loading screen, like after any other mission.

Only this time we waited, and waited, and waited. I didn't look at the clock but it was obvious that the game wasn't even loading at all. One of my teammates rebooted his console and everything was fine, I did the same and found out that my character no longer exists.

 

And the servers were crashing all day that day (not before I lost my character, but after).

I honestly think it'll be quicker to create a new character and play than wait for a fix.

 

Problem is that the issue isn't fixed. So that character might vanish too.

 

Players need to boycott the game. Show R* that this kind of sh*t is unnacceptable.
