GTA Online worth the subscription?

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, I do not typically play online with the xbox, as I am primarily a PC gamer. I tried out GTA online during the free weekend, but did not get to spend more than a couple hours in it. I wanted to ask our more "experienced" GTA online players if you feel that GTA online is worth the subscription fee for xbox Gold? The impression I got was no, since it seemed the only thing to do was

race, deathmatch, petty crimes (gas station hold up, steal cars), and

troll other players. I realize that more is in the pipe, but I have learned from years of experience to make companies show me results first instead of waiting on empty promises. So did I miss a HUGE piece of the pie, is there tons to do and I just missed it? So the simple question is, today, is GTA online worth paying for an xbox Gold subscription?

Thanks.

GTAO is worth it on the ps3 because you get PSN for freeeeee! JK.....I dont mean to start a xbox vs ps holy war.

Not just petty crimes, you can do major crimes too (thru missions), and a variety of them which get better as you level up. You can also freeroam and explore the map with buddies if you arent feeling adventurous enough to trust strangers. Thats all i've done online till now apart from screwing around the map by myself. Not sure if theres too much more.

You are wise to hold you horses until R* shows something worthwhile for the dlc content. I trusted R* with a preorder and got backstabbed by the vehicle handling (among other things). + online is still buggy. Lots of people still complaining of something or another, especially losing the characters they created.

Yes and no, for gta 5 no for me but yes for gold subscription, having the subscription i get 2 free xbox 360 games per month for life as long as i keep my subscription and to me that is a HUGE plus. Free game on 1st of the month the on 16th of the month 2nd free games and the games are very nice and some of them is popular titles as in halos series, rainbow 6, magic the gathering, assassins creed 2 ext.... So you can see we don't always get crappy free games, beats going to gamestop to buy say halo for $6,00 when with gold sundcrition you get the game free, only catch is when the free games co me out each month on 1st and 16th you have till end of month to download them befor there not free no more BUT xbox 360 isn't like ps3, ps3 you get free games with subscription to sony but if you cancel subscription then you no longer can play them. With xbox 360 once you download your free games and if you ever cancel your gold subscription, you CAN still play your free games :)

If you're only ever planning on playing GTA Online then no, it's not worth paying the Xbox Live subscription. You should have got a PS3.

Even if you were going to play other games online i would still maintain it's not worth the subscription. When the competition doesn't require a subscription and is pretty much identical in terms of online performance.

This will all change though, both next gen consoles (i think) require online subscription.

NO, next gen consoles for example xbox 360 you only need silver(free sub) account so you can buy from marketplace ext.. You don't need gold sub unless you playing online multiplayer, there is tons of players like me who live in the country and we use dish data lite, which has 3 sec delay that makes online playing difficult and xbox has already announced you do not need gold sub, only silver sub unless you play online multiplayer then you need gold sub :)

PS3 has got a ton of more issues than the 360 for gta online, and il always state the fact that the psn network got hacked, end of for me,id never use a free online gaming service. It leeds it wide open for well its free anyway why should a company employ any staff to bother with anything thats free.

i'd say yes

I haven't really played any games for a while now and got a 3 month subscription just for gta online and despite all the startup trouble it was worth it

now i've got into the game a bit and it's more or less functioning properly (haven't lost anything after the patch) i'm really enjoying myself

only sidenote I'd like to add is that I do think it's a bit of an investement

have to play quite a bit before getting to the good stuff.

ow and what's with the endless console war BS?

no1 asked which online service was better or anything so keep your fanboy propaganda to yourself

i'd definitely say yes.

it's so addictive if your not glitching and actually playing through the missions etc to earn cash. i know there's a couple of cash glitches that allow you to earn big bucks quick. ruins the game if you ask me.

i'm going through all the missions, all the races, death matches, last man standing, parachute races and of course survival.

so there's definitely plenty to do.

and of course it's very satisfying when you buy your first car and mod it up, then you can show off to the players who are still stuck with the default car.

Despite the headaches gta online is really fun if you ask me. As far as the subscription I can't share light on it because I own a ps3. Last night did a mission called crooked cops and had a blast. About 35 mins of pure chaotic fun. Went back and forth between gun fight and car chases from both cops and other players. Get a couple buddies and you'll have a blast.

wait? you get 2 free games a month with gold membership? I've had gold since original xbox, I never knew that? where do I go to get credit and find the games?

Oh thank God, I read the title and I thought Rockstar'd done some last minute "hey guys, multiplayer's gonna be pay-to-play now!" thing. This is an XBox issue. Phew. For a minute there, I thought real gamers were going to have problems.

Seeing how crap GTA Online is right now, I'd say no, it's not worth a subscription... but if you're on XBox, you probably don't care about wasting money anyways, so sure why not?

Thank you to everyone for responding. Most people even kept it civil, lol. Seems the missions is all I was not aware of. Didn't get any during the 2 hours I was online? I'll probably sell back the game and wait for the discounted PC version in a year to pick it back up. Maybe by then GTA online will be worth a subscription.

I didn't read all posts but "worth" is personal opinion. If you're not a busy body worried about mission farmers then yes. If you are willing to get killed in free roam at any given moment then yes. If you can have fun and associate with strangers then yes. I feel it was worth the money spent on live.

If you are going to have problems with what I listed above and are only going to bitch about it then don't bother.

BTW: I wasn't trying to be sarcastic or condescending at all if it came across that way.
