bish0p2004
I always chuckle when people give GTA IV's story crap, and praise San Andreas storyline. Secret Agent Triad Gang Banger was just SOOOOOOOOO deep and amazing. And those trucker missions were just some of the best things in gaming. I always chuckle when people complain about a video game character from the hood who can learn to fly a plane. Anyways, IV will always be the worst GTA game imo. It was such a huge step back from SA in terms of gameplay. V is disappointing, but it is much better than IV. Still not as good as SA was at the time though. marizzocos
I think it is a small minority that dislike the game, look at the all around ratings and you will dee that an overwhelming majority love it. Cant make everyone happy... V has almost better user ratig than IV in almost every website and most of the negative ratings are "NO PC FU COCKSTAR" so V easily wins over IV therefore its impossible for the game to have more hate then IV
Jimmy Darmody
Why? … maybe because there wasn't another GTA in the last 4 years…? No. It's gonna be the most hated in 4 years from now. Not the most hated of the last 4 years. (And GTA: Chinatown came out in 2009) lol
CorporalBean675
To be fair, GTAForums is like the only place where I've seen overwhelmic majority hate for the game, nearly everywhere else love it save for a few complaints, most of whih stem from GTAOnline the past week. Exactly right! I haven't found even one person that's talked this much sh*t about GTA V (not saying it's perfect but still is a damn fantastic game). Pumptruffle
I've owned and loved every single GTA game since I first played a GTA 1 demo on the playstation magazine demo disc. They have all been remarkable and brilliant, can't fault any of them. People moaning about small insiginificant problems aren't seeing the bigger picture. These games are, and always have been, truly amazing. Ok, the online side is having a few problems, but something of this magnitude hasn't been done on consoles before, of course there will be issues. I can live with that and will just wait to play when it is ready. BFR579

_Brotha_
IV's step up to SA = insane. V's step up to IV = meh. WHAAAAT? If anything, IV was a step down. The technical stuff such as graphics/animations were of course amazing, but the game seriously lacked in many places in terms of gameplay and the replay value factor. GTA V is a great game which makes IV look like a beta.
AlmightyHabbib
I love pretty much all GTA's, except for the PSP spin-offs, couldn't get into them. Played GTA1, GTA2, GTA3(probably the least played), GTAVC, GTA:SA and GTAIV, still waiting to try out V. And for me, I don't treat these games as competition of sorts, GTA Vice City, give that amazing 80's vibe, surround by mafia plot. GTA:SA, gave my some sort of insight into the gangs of 90's LA, or LS, whilst giving an opportunity to explore a whole state, from mountains, forests, deserts, it was fun, big, and kind of liberating game. GTAIV, was as well, a whole new beast for me, I was always somewhat fascinated by New York, and IV, gave a very impressive look, the city felt city'ish, the story felt appropriate, and it succeeded in what it tried to achieve. Now V I watched tons of hours of gameplay, a whole walkthrough with side missions and that, and from what I saw, it is again, a whole other beast to tame, the real L.A feel, of these beaches, and suburbs, rich to poor, moving onto mountains and beautiful deserts, which do feel right, in SA, it was about the big freedom, but it didn't capture everything it gave, but V seems to capture that desert feel, that little town in the middle of nowhere, and the story, I mean three stories, involving heists, psychosis, a bit of gangbanging, a bit of government corruption, corruption, friendship, betrayal, family, fame, I mean it looks f*cking amazing as a whole. It also offers a great variety of content, which is well developed. So, people whinge and whine, but they do play the game Because that's what people do, first they moaned that IV's missions were boring, and grounded in reality, in V they fixed that, they are some cool crazy missions, both realistic and not, but people seem to forget that, I haven't heard anyone say, oh they fixed that, NO, they just complain because there weren't few interiors, or there isn't poker, or stuff like that, in every game if you want, you will find flaws, and find something it lacks according to your own personal taste, but it's just lame on judging the game of what YOU WANTED IT TO BE, instead of what it is. The game did improve, you like it or not, but it did, so don't judge a game on your nostalgia, with which your actual memories are rather weirdly affected, if you love SA, or VC and think they are better, go play them, or you lost that "magic" that interest they held for you when you were maybe 14 or something.. As for the reviews, GTA IV had just as much good reviews as V. But people say Magazines reviews are bought out, so i don't know. People can also say that users reviews matter the most, but once again most of these reviews are "this game is good because you can swim"... like, out of the all things to put in evidence in a game swim is one of them? Or having a girlfriend in game? Not for me, so i don't know as well. LOL! Edited October 7, 2013 by Jimmy Darmody
FutoDriver
I actually agree with the OP. I've been playing GTA since it's orginial release back in 1996 before I get accused of being some ungreatful kid, this is the first one I don't feel compelled to complete. I haven't even picked it up to play for about 4 or so days now. This is something that just hasn't ever happened to me before with any GTA game. I've got 35% on my stats I've done every side quest possible up to this point and I feel like I'm done with the game. There's no hook to keep me playing. Storyline is meh (big step down from GTA IV) the heists were overhyped and I feel distant from the characters with all the switching around. I'm also not a fan of the arcadey handling you get in other open world games and will never be. Jimmy Darmody
witsalldonebefor
People prefer older gta's? Based on what the 10 guys in here who dont like gta v? Outside of this forum theres barely any hate on this game look at reddit.. Besides when IV was released everyone was complaining, saying it was the worst gta they ever played and instead praised the older games... Now the same is happening and gta VI will be the same, people crying about stuff the game doesnt have and treat prior games (V, IV, SA...) like gods Yeah I don't think people look at names, they seem to assume it's all different people. Joe Reddit
Well, I don't really know what to say... IV was an improvement from the III era for sure. Especially graphics. That meant a smaller map though and other tiny stuff cut off. V's improvement from IV in term of graphics wasn't *that* big. Still quite better but not as big as III's to IV. Why? Well, the map size is at least 3 times bigger, 3 playable characters, a sh*tton of features and much much other stuff. But the people that complain about V don't give a sh*t about this. Also the fact that the hardware this game was developed on is still the SAME as IV's, which is almost a decade old. So people that complain about V should think at least twice about it. I'm not saying it's a perfect game, I'm not saying you can't have your own opinion and you can't dislike V, but the reasons those people do it are ridiculous. I'm mostly talking about singleplayer. And graphics may not be the best, but the thing that made me LOVE V is the story. SA's was OK-ish, pretty long, but OK. IV's was the worst in my opinion, almost the same thing trough the whole game. I know some may disagree, but still. Now V. I love it! One thing that makes it great is 3 playable characters, the stuff before the prologue with Brad and the FIB, the story after Trevor digs up Brad, Michael's family, the interaction between the main characters, I mean it's just so well thought and great somebody should make a movie about it! Pure awesomeness. TL;DR : V may not have the best graphics, but in my opinion, the story makes it a really great game. Also the sh*tton of features. But the story... it's just too great, I got really sad when it all ended. It may be short but it's great!
riksterinto
This forum has a high percentage of very vocal people who like to complain. It probably isn't a very good representation of the community at large. Most people, who haven't had issued, are happily playing the game and just not saying anything because they are too busy enjoying the game. AtomicPunk
GTA V is definitely better than GTA IV in my eyes and an improvement on it, but not by far, and that is what appears to be the problem here. Going by what Rockstar stated in their previews, GTA V should have been much better than GTA IV, but there are just some things missing from it that does not give me that feeling. Don't get me wrong I really like the game and I'm having a blast playing it, but I really do feel that Rockstar could have added much more and done much more with this game. I mean look how huge the size of the map is - there is so much potential in this game, but it seems a lot of effort went into online/multiplayer, which is another that I really don't like. I don't know why, but Vice City and San Andreas just managed to have more of that massive 'wow' impact on me when I first played them, something all GTA games after it just have not been able to do. Exactly what I came here to say. V has too much missing. Dumbed-down car damage?? Aw hell no R* didn't!! Sorry, but V uis bland. That seems to be the trend with R* now since IV. They've lost that innovation that used to make them great. This game is only a 7.4 and compared to the original San An and Vice City, this game licks bawsaq. V is a miss. Glad the little kids are liking it though. I took it outta my PS 3 yesterday and playing other games. I never done that with any GTA that soon other than IV. R* have become a parody of themselves--let it go to their heads. They aren't too much better now than the people who imitate them, like Saints Row. Silentype
IV's step up to SA = insane. V's step up to IV = meh. Not a lot you can do with current consoles. Exactly, why over complicate things then? Free-mode is called "free" for a reason. Do what you want, pick up an RPG from the street corner, blow sh*t up, laugh it off, it's a game. Not get robbed of 2000 every time you die, now I can't afford a pistol, rob a store to get some money, oh f*ck now police are after me because i can't f*cking turn then off. That's why IV's was fun. Simple, but fun. That's why people still play it to this day. My thoughts exactly, 3 of course was the current starting point because of the jump to 3d, then vice city took it to another level, I actually remember getting to a certain point in the game and not knowing what to do because there were no missions and was lost because I didn't complete it, and then I looked up what was missing and find out you had to do asset missions then your old boss would come down and try to tax those businesses, I was indescribably excited after reading it and my thoughts were "wow, this game is great" Then sa came out, added even more to the mix, and even the story games were exciting to me and added to the already existing games they accompany, but honestly since then I've felt excited for both of the current games and their potential before they came out but once i've had them, they haven't given me,(imo) that feeling of excitement that I got from the old 1s, and truth be told talking about has made me want to play the old ones, so I think i'm going to do that. DeafMetal
The people who "hated" V are not necessarily a significant enough portion of the fanbase to justify it being a point. The only people I have seen give it hate are from GTA Forums, which itself is probably 0.01% of the GTA fanbase. Total fanbase is ~ 25 million + ~ 5 million of people who bought the games used, bought them on a platform that doesn't track sales, or outright pirated them. GTA Forums itself does not hate V; it's called a loud minority. i.e., the people complaining are so damn obnoxiously loud in their campaign that they seem to mute out everyone else. You see this everywhere. The crazy-ass feminists on TV doing stupid sh*t give the majority of feminists, who are actually fighting for equality of everyone, a bad name. The Tea Party, campaigning for borderline retarded things, give the Republican party a worse name (cough shutdown, cough). The people trying to shove their beliefs down your throat (tv christians, youtube atheists, etc.) give the rest of their peers a bad name. etc.
