Here's a thought. Maybe characters have been deleted because they are bugged thus causing the online problems in the first place. Maybes deletion is a way of fixing the bigger overall problem?

R* has very little experience in online gaming afaik, RDR multi was great, but nothing to compare in scope as GTA O

Yes and SimCity only had problems with server capacity. The code was ok and noboby got deleted citys every 2nd day.

This game is already broken. When heists will be released, no one is going to do them because everyone will already be maxed out and own millions of cash. This is the easiest game I've ever played, getting max rank and tons of cash is just a walk in the park because of missions like "Mixed up with coke".

Suddenly rockstar are public enemy no 1. Yes gtao is a disaster atm but it can be fixed to create an astonishing game, not forgetting story mode and offline was still a great game despites its glitches.

 

And never mind the hours of fun rockstar have created with previous gtà's. All im saying is yes, gtao is bad right now but when you attempt something this big then there will be problems and mistakes. I have no doubt rockstar will fix as many as possible, but in the meantime im not too upset because its only a game and real life still goes on wether gta is working or not.

Sorry but it is THAT bad. I've been playing MMOs for about 12-13 years now and with this sort of experience I have came to expect certain things of new releases.. server instability, server downtime, lag, mission/quest bugs... these are things we come to learn to be patient towards and in most cases, sympathetic towards game developers for. However, I've not once experienced something as bad as characters completely vanishing into thin air and realistically, I don't think I'd even expect that in an alpha, let alone beta or a full release.

Accessing it isnt the problem for me its the fact that at any point i can log on and see that my character has disappeared.

The short version: there appears to be no guarantee that progress will be restored, but in the meantime, DO NOT create another character in your old one's place, always quit out of GTA Online through the menus, and be aware that temporary characters can't be saved to the cloud. That said, I've always followed all of that advice and I lost my character anyway.

 

Can anyone explain where the do not create another character bit came from? Can't seem to find anything official from R* on it. Does that count for both slots or just the one your character is in? I lost a rank 35 with a 205k apartment and a modded feltzer.. don't really want to lose the progress but at the same time I'm so tempted to just suck it up and start over again.

 

 

You can create a new character just not in the one you lost's slot. Some people have managed to get their character back after waiting and redownloading the update. But if you override that slot theres no hope

This I like. It is a change of pace from everyone acting like GTAV is the best thing since the creation of life.

They have consistently delivered great offline games that the masses have enjoyed. i have never read or experienced any form of egotism, bragging or showing off by Rockstar at all.

 

They have just delivered arguably the best single player experience of any GTA with great mechanics, characters, depth and story.

 

Rockstar themselves and various media outlets have warned us in advance that GTA online was a work in progress, that they are inexperienced in launching online components of this size, and to be patient.

 

Yet all people seem to do is attack Rockstar as if they just came to your kitchen, pulled down their pants and relieved themselves in your conflakes!

 

Grow up and be patient. So what if GTA online doesnt work properly for the majority of players. For those of us that CAN play it the new component is amazing!

 

We owe it to them after years of great content to give them time to fix this one. We should wait until the next gen GTA and vilify them IF they still cant launch succesfully!
