People who say they are done for good are pathetic.

 

 

This...it's not even been out a week. We've seen plenty of progress from R* trying to fix stuff since release. Once they get this issue out of the way it'll be minor tweaks and fixes that you'll hardly notice.

 

Please...PLEASE... Stop saying that there isn't even out for a week... The game IS NOT marked as beta and character deletion is an Alpha issue... They had to either mark it as beta and warn players or just don't release it to the public until they don't have such major issues... We aint talking about connection issues here. This is severe.

Apart from not being able get online on October 1st, I haven't had a problem. Characters saved fine so far on Xbox in the uk

Note: Please do NOT use the “Retry” button after receiving the message “Rockstar Cloud Servers are unavailable” as this may result in loss of character data. If you are trying to access GTA Online and Rockstar Cloud Servers are unavailable, please exit to GTAV Story Mode and try entering GTA Online again through the Pause menu in Story Mode. We will be issuing a title update that will fix this issue as soon as possible.

 

After this notice I am trying again, this is the exact problem why I lose my character at night, during the day its perfect (UK) but when the night falls so does the servers and I always click retry.

What has beta and alpha testing go to do with it. You can do all the testing you want and still have issues in a live environment. That's the nature of I.T. It could be a number of issues not foreseen in testing, especially as testing isn't on the same scale as release.

 

Of course it has to do! If the game is marked as beta then we wouldn't rush to get rank up and gather money. After the end of the beta everything gets wiped normally since it's a test period that can be unfair to many other because of connection issues, glitches and other unforseen situations as you say. Character deletion is of course a major issue that would have popped up in a beta environment. The internal QA doesn't have the resources to identify such issues mostly because their test environment are ideal and mostly even located in the same building as the servers where the Internet doesn't come into the equation.

 

It is UNACCEPTABLE for a game of that huge scale not to have beta period. I don't even know what they were thinking...

Except it's not a beta is it. It's finished game, which will require a few tweaks here and there. The issues so far have been network, cloud, infrastructure, etc.

 

The problems not the game, it's saving the data from the game back to the cloud. So for me that's not beta, alpha, whatever you want to call it....that's network / storage / hardware issues.

 

And how do you know these issues would have happened in testing. I support 21 servers for 4000 users at work. When we're doing UAT testing it's on 1 server with a handful of users. Nothing like the infrastructure it goes live on. The purpose of the testing is to make sure the application works first and foremost.

I'm hoping there will either be servers like PVE and PVP. I have no problem with people playing the way they want. I just have an issue with people making you play the way they want. Rockstar needs to make servers where players can only attack each other in events or maybe like a duel mode. I end avoiding the main groups because I always end up dodging bullets or vehicles. It's fun/funny every now and then, but all the time...

 

Solo play would be cool too. I can solo stuff, but you don't get paid well or at all. Sometimes if things go bad, you end up paying for the mission. I have two characters. One is level 4 and has $58,000 and the other is level 14 and has $54,000. I've bought a couple things, but nothing expensive. I know some people think of online as group stuff, but you can't always find a group and it's nice to just do something when you want at your own pace. A little bit of both is nice. Besides, those who solo, once done with single player mode it's cool to have the option to keep going.

 

As for lost/deleted characters. I think I've lost over half a dozen. Don't care too much because I didn't get far with them. I feel bad for those who lost cars, houses and lots of money. It seems pretty stable now. I haven't lost characters lately (past few days). I think they really need to focus on making the game appealing for both the solo player and team player. Both the carefree free roamer and the watch your back, shoot 'em up player. A dunce cap won't do much and a petty cash reward for good behavior isn't the resolution.

 

Cops are too aggressive. Gangs are overpowered. Armor is almost useless. Rewards vs. effort, costs and time aren't balanced. GTA Online could be great if they fix some stuff.

I'm so sad, I spent so much time playing and now I'm too afraid to play because I don't want to lose my character and all the time I put into her..

 

I don't understand why this is taking so long, or why they haven't just shut down Online until this stops happening. Why let more people be affected by the bug? Anyone who plays without knowing about the bugs is just going to be another victim.

That's a lie.

 

I lost my character because I was in an Infinite LOADING SCREEN, exactly like this one :

TELL ME, how exactly do I "exit properly" when there are no buttons to press to Cancel this loading screen, and it stays like that FOREVER? I waited 30+ minutes and it STILL was in that loading screen that you see. It doesn't cancel it.

 

The only option I had, was to dashboard PS3, restart game, and voila, character gone.

 

R* is full of sh*t on this. The character deletion issue is a big problem, and it's not because "you pressed Retry"

Losing characters is unforgiving. It is pre-Alpha. This is fundamental and should be totally fixed before going to Alpha.

There's no guarantee you'd encounter the same issues though. If people retrying when the cloud is down was the cause then you'd only encounter that in testing if you had similar cloud issues...which you may not get.

 

Just saying that you can do all the testing you want. Unforseen issues can still occur.

But similarly, come on now, it's your own fault for expecting perfection from the get go - Blizzard games have terrible first weeks, even months, and that's a company based around online gaming. R* isn't, and it's doing not bad considering.

how do you know that? the patch came out saturday morning. i played saturday afternoon with a character i created thursday after my original character vanished on wendesday and that character vanished saturday eveing, AFTER the patch.

R* isn't, and it's doing not bad considering.

There's a difference between some small bugs here and there like your console freezing or losing a little bit of money or your rank, and losing all progress you made. The servers need to be shut down until this bug is fixed, it's unacceptable.

I really, really want to like the game, if it worked it would be something very special. However, since my level 20 character was deleted I cant get back in to it. I was having a great time, had been in some really exciting games and some missions played out incredibly well with other players.

 

But I just cant be bothered to start all over again.

Hey guys I don't want to sound sarcastic but you should play the game to have fun, not gloat over your level and how much money you have. Couldn't care less about my level or money as long as im having fun racing and shooting at people and et cetera.

I AM SORRY ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE VIDEO, BUT MY WEBCAM IS ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH.

Nah, I'm loving it. I consider all my current progress provisional for the next month or so. I'd be annoyed if I lost my progress, but not a big deal. If I lost my singleplayer progress...that would be another story. So far I'm loving GTAO, although it's a lot to wrap my head around and a decent manual would have been a huge help.

Im done unless my character comes back before bf4's release, no game is worth all the time wasted to get the a solid amount of cash to lose your character and not get one set back free of charge, rockstar wasn't prepared for a multiplayer of this size imo
