XAIKON Posted October 7, 2013 Share Posted October 7, 2013 I remember R* saying the map was bigger than Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto IV combined, has anyone confirmed this? because it seems like utter bull*hit to me, and if it is not in fact bigger, then that is just an outright lie by R* since they could very quickly and easily determine the truth of the matter. DarkDayz Posted October 7, 2013 Share Posted October 7, 2013 It sure is their bigget map. Can't see how it could of been any bigger given the level of detail on the hardware it performs on. But, it feels hella small because of the fast cars and aircraft. I remember Red Deads feeling absolutely massive and vast, It felt way bigger than GTA V does, but that is because you couldn't really see above ground level an weren't riding anything faster than a horse. Liberty City felt quite big because you could only pilot heli's. It's all about context. San Andreas felt bigger than it actually is because of three varying cities and a clear thought out tier or missions and how you work your way up. GTA V is really linear, it didn't feel long because you already had the riches with Michael when you started, and you could effectively go to the other side of the map by switching characters. It was big, but it is underwhelming for me because of fast travel and a limited story structure. And given all that, Vice City is still my favourite and that was probably the size of GTA V's airport haha. Again, because of the people, the mission arcs. What I don't get: There are 4 (or more) big regions that have partially interior and are really cool, but we cannot enter them longer than 4 minutes without being shot: - The prison - The "agency" complex on the east side of the map - Fort Zancudo - The Airport imho there should be possibilities (after ending the game) to enter all of these a) without getting wanted (by wearing a uniform or own a part of it like the hangar at the aiport ) b) sneaking into it without getting spotted These 4 regions are useless as f*ck, at least in singleplayer / offline mode… Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

From previews to interviews with Dan Houser, it just seemed like the map would be something jaw dropping. I argue that RDR still has the largest game world of any Rockstar game but perhaps someone can prove me wrong on that. Anywho, once it dawned on me that the map size was toned down to allow functionality in Online, I felt ok with it. Then again, I'll need to define functionality. R* specifically stated the map, when you include interiors and underwater, is bigger than RDR, IV, and SA combined, and they are correct.
